I cannot even imagine how hurtful it is for families of victims of Columbine Massacre to see a game like this. I don't know what kind of morals, or in this case, lack of them do the game developers have, but the idea behind the game is unethical. Although the Columbine Massacre happened ten years ago, similar incident happened Montreal, Canada and NIU. Unfortunately, I knew someone whose relative was killed in NIU shootings last year. Because it happened locally and so recently, I am sure many people can relate to it better than the Columbine Massacre. I cannot even imagine how mad I would be to see a game out that was portraying this tragic event and trying to justify the shooter's actions. What makes this game so wrong is that it is based on real life tragedy. It is extremely hard to prove that the recent murderers took inspiration from the game, but at the same time, I am sure the game could have something to do with it. Because of how casual and normal it makes the shootings look, I think it gives more justification of the reasons for that. So you don't fit in the society, have problems relating to people, and just being picked on, you have the right to express your frustration by killing your classmates so that they learn their lesson? Definitely not, but at least that is the feeling I got from the narration of the game... Additionally, after playing for a while I noticed that the dialogue between players shows their motives of committing the murders. However, this opinion is very sympathetic with them which make it one sided. It gives a feeling like the two boys were always picked on and never fit in at school and that is what led to their aggression. I believe that it is wrong for the developer of the game to push his own opinion regarding this issue and make people playing the game believe that the murderers had a valid excuse for their actions. Even though the game does not provide a lot of options to the player besides taking up the role of the two murderers, it still gives a chance to make ethical decisions while playing. It is up to the player to decide whether they want to kill everyone they encounter, or choose specific people. This brings us back to one of the first lectures in class about ethical decision making study of people choosing between killing on train worker or 4 pedestrians at the train stop. The game operates the same way but leaving it up to the player to choose who will survive and who will be killedSun, 08 Mar 2009 19:22:13 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3694&iddiary=6925Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Sun, 08 Mar 2009 16:59:41https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3694Because I am not a big gamer, I never heard of this game before. It was interesting to see what the game is really about because of its connection to the real life event. Even before playing or reading about the game, I thought that it is really weird to have its based on shooting at school which was a shock and big tragedy for many people. The only question that is still in my mind is, what were the producers thinking when they decided to come up with Super Columbine Massacre RPG? Why would anyone want to advertise this tragedy and allow people virtually experience the event? It seems absurd to me to see someone treating this game as a fun activity... It is far from ethical to even consider making a game that allows to re experience the events of Columbine Massacre and as a gamer to go out killing classmates as a mission. Even though I was not a fan of Grand Theft Auto, I think this game is way worse in the ethical stand only because of the fact that it is based on a real tragic event. By developing, playing, and allowing this game, we are making the tragedy of Columbine Massacre seem normal and acceptable.Sun, 08 Mar 2009 16:59:41 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3694&iddiary=6924Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas (PS2) - Sun, 15 Feb 2009 21:52:43https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3611Grand Theft Auto is a game that is meant purely for adult entertainment. Players are allowed do anything they want to, including extremely offensive and criminal activities. This chance to do things you otherwise would not do in real life is what in my opinion attracts people and makes the game so popular. The missions and all things players do in the game (such as stealing, shooting at police, and disrespecting women) are aimed on what actions will get the most points. I, for example found myself following all the directions I was given by the game, because if I did not, it would slow down my progress. Even though I consider myself ethical person, playing the game unethically did not seem like breaking any rules for me just because it was not real. I felt that I am playing in a way to get the most points and complete the missions to move on to the next. The time you start playing, game puts you in a separate world where the plot is what matters the most. I strongly believe that the game is meant for mature people that already have established ethical views. In this way, they most likely will not be affected by the game because they are able to separate the game actions from real life. I am glad that I am finished with this assignment because I cant see myself playing the game again. When it can be fun for some it is offensive and a waste of time for others. Even though I did not enjoy the game, I do not think it is unethical because it is just a game. It is a way for spending free time and it will not change the way people act in real life.Sun, 15 Feb 2009 21:52:43 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3611&iddiary=6788Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas (PS2) - Sun, 15 Feb 2009 18:40:17https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3611This game is shocking by the amount of racism it contains. Almost every character is a stereotype. For instance African American are portrayed extremely stereotypical not only in the way the act but also the way they look, speak and what environment they are put in. The gang members are Hispanic or African American. They are portrayed as uncivilized, unethical criminals. It relates to what we talked about in class of how this trait can be seen in movies also. It is unfortunate that the image like that is given to a particular race. It plays a bad effect on how the whole race is viewed by people. It is clear that most of the civilized society will understand that the image is extremely over exaggerated, however to people who are unfamiliar with African American race, this image may become the only way they identify the race. Additionally, the game is sexist in describing women as worthless hookers who can be treated as if they are nothing. They are used as objects for sex and then killed to get paid money back. And finally, the language used in the game is offensive. However, all these traits go along with the plot and story of the game. The setting has a gang-criminal set up to it, so the sex, violence, and offensive language is not shocking but not surprising.Sun, 15 Feb 2009 18:40:17 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3611&iddiary=6774Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas (PS2) - Sun, 15 Feb 2009 15:17:52https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3611It feels great to write a 3 paragraph review and have it not post! Well, i might as well just rewrite it all again.. I started playing the game a few days ago and my emotional response has been greater which each time I played the game. Because I recently did a paper on GTA III, I noticed that GTA San Andreas is not too much different from it. The GTA games differ in game setting and missions, but the fundamental idea of sex, racism, crime, and violence can be seen throughout the games. In the opening, the game sets the mood by introducing the main character CJ and problems he is facing. CJ's mom has been killed and he is running from the police because he's been framed for a murder. He is left in the neighborhood of a rivalry gang. Even though the game allows players to make their own decisions, I found t hard not to follow the instructions or "suggestions" of the game. For example when game tells you "use the bike" or "use the car" you find yourself blindly following the instructions because they provide the easiest and fastest way to complete the mission.Sun, 15 Feb 2009 15:17:52 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3611&iddiary=6762
