LGB's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1166Columbine RPG (PC) - Sat, 20 Feb 2010 12:40:59https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4116I started off my third session entering the park to load up on supplies. I was once again disturbed by the conversation between Eric and Dylan. I was shocked by the fact that Dylan could just look at the city and say that he just wants to blow up the entire thing. While the game does not exactly show their emotions, I got from the dialog that they were very cold and unemotional. I noticed that at one point Dylan said that Eric was his only friend, helping to partially describe why they might be doing this. When they began to take their supplies out of the bags I was not surprised. I soon began to change my feelings when they continued to pull out more and more guns, more bombs, and more knives. I could not believe how many weapons they had. This shows me how serious they really were. They did not just want to do some damage, they wanted to cause a massacre. Once I left the park I spent the rest of my session attempting and failing to set the car bomb. After having played this game for an hour and a half I was very disturbed. I cannot believe that this game has not been outlawed or banned in some way and I do not understand why anyone would want to create this game. Columbine was such an awful and tragic event and there is no reason for it to be relived. I cannot even imagine what it must be like for the friends and families of those that lost their lives in this event to see this game; to know that people all over the world can reenact this horrible tragedy every day; that this massacre is living on. How can the creator of this game not feel for those family members and friends? This is truly an awful game and I find it completely immoral, I almost feel immoral for even playing it. This is because there is no moral way to play it, in order to advance in the game the player must make numerous immoral decisions. In no way should the events that occurred at Columbine high school be reenacted or joked about in the creation of a game. This game is truly appalling.Sat, 20 Feb 2010 12:40:59 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4116&iddiary=7689Columbine RPG (PC) - Fri, 19 Feb 2010 13:52:02https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4116When I started by second session I was just entering the school to plant the bombs in the cafeteria. At first I had issues, I entered the school and immediately got caught many times until I figured out that I needed to sneak under the security cameras. I then figured out to also avoid the hall monitors as they can bust me too. After about 10 or 15 minutes I finally got into the cafeteria where I once again got caught by a camera. It also took me a little while to figure out which exact tables I could walk around and which ones I was supposed to plant the bombs under. Once I did it took me a couple tries to make it back out to the parking lot without getting caught. I then got the duffel bags out of the car and my session was up. While playing this session I was in a different state of mind, no longer was I outraged and disgusted by the game but I was just trying to complete the mission. It felt much more playful that the first session in which I was reading a ton of material about killing, death, etc. It was almost as if I forgot exactly what I was doing in the school and just felt like I was paying a kids video game. The fact that they game has such simple graphics makes it appear less serious than the actual intensions. Because the classmates and teachers are little figures and not very life-like, killing them would not have much emotional affect. I can imagine that it would not feel like I killed a peer, but just a character in a game. By this point I have lost most of the initial shock that I had when I initially started the game.Fri, 19 Feb 2010 13:52:02 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4116&iddiary=7687Columbine RPG (PC) - Thu, 18 Feb 2010 19:56:54https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4116Before even starting to play this game I had an idea of what it might be like. Obviously, the name suggests that it focuses on the Columbine massacre. While I guessed that there would be a lot of aspects of this game that I would not agree with, I did not think that it would be quite as disturbing as it was. I cannot believe how realistic this game is. The fact that they used the names and photos of the actual shooters rubs me the wrong way. It is one thing to loosely base a game after a tragic event but it is another to model the game after it as much as Columbine has. I was especially disturbed by the conversations between Eric and Dylan. The fact that they are excited about what is going to be the biggest event of their lives, attempting to kill their entire school. I was shocked that at one point the directions instructed me to attack and have fun, as if taking the lives of my fellow students was somehow supposed to be enjoyable. I spent most of my first 30 minutes exploring the basement. I watched the movie, which demonstrated the need to kill without feelings, I saw Eric and Dylan discuss their possible futures of going to Arizona State and joining the Marines, and I saw them leave one last video. It seemed to me that Eric was much more innocent and remorseful than Dylan. The impression that I got from the video they left was that Eric feels bad about what he is about to do but is going to do it anyway because Dylan has convinced him of it. Eric takes time to apologize to his parents while Dylan simply states how all the people who have hurt him are going to pay for what they have done. After I picked up, read, and viewed all that I could in the basement I went back upstairs, left the house, and found myself in the parking lot of the school. I got the bombs out of my trunk just before my first session was over.Thu, 18 Feb 2010 19:56:54 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4116&iddiary=7686Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC) - Sun, 17 Jan 2010 11:16:55https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4076For it being my third time playing the game I am still pretty confused. I hit another guy with my bike and I saw some money so I went and got that, $361, not sure what I am supposed to do with that. I ditched my bike and begin to walk around again. I went up to people, who I noticed where waving their guns around, but nothing happened. I tried going up to a number of different people but I do not know how to interact with them or even if I can. I heard guns shots yet again and instead of running away from the noise like everyone else around me I decided to run towards it. I saw three African American men with baggy clothes and do-rags shooting each other, I believe one of them had just gotten out of the car that was near them. It was pretty graphic with blood spilling out after they got shot. Not knowing what to do I walked away. I continued on for the duration of the time still not sure what I was supposed to be doing or how to interact with any of the people besides getting close to them and having them tell me to leave, bounce, or run away. While I did not get far in this game at all I did get some of the general themes. I did not notice one white person with the exception of one cop in the beginning; I witnessed violence and even participated a tiny bit. When running over someone with my bike to the point that they were bleeding I was rewarded with a weapon and later with money. There are countless reasons how I could see this game going in an unethical direction. But then comes the question of if it really matters? After all, it is “just a game”.Sun, 17 Jan 2010 11:16:55 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4076&iddiary=7625Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC) - Sat, 16 Jan 2010 14:55:55https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4076After walking around for a while I decided to go back to by bike. I am still confused as to what I am supposed to be doing. I rode around aimlessly for a while. I noticed that I could hear random gunshots, some far away and others closer. Still not understanding the point of this game I continued to ride around until I hit a guy head on and he fell over and started bleeding. I saw a gun so I went over and got it. Then I got back on my bike and rode around some more with my gun even though I have no idea how to shoot it. While I am not advancing in this game at all because I have no idea what I am doing I have noticed a number of stereotypical and possible unethical aspects. The swearing, the blood, the guns, the hookers, etc. With the little knowledge that I have of this game I know that eventually I am supposed to be stealing cars, shooting people, etc. Unfortunately at this point I have no idea how to do that. I can see that there can be many unethical choices to make such as if to kill someone just to get a better car or a better weapon. I do not know if I will ever get to the point where I have to make these decisions.Sat, 16 Jan 2010 14:55:55 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4076&iddiary=7618Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC) - Fri, 15 Jan 2010 10:40:13https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4076When I first started playing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas there was a couple of racial stereotypes presented that I pretty much expected from this game. First of all that the “bad” guy is a tough African American man who is familiar to the police and had committed many previous crimes. Also, when the officer calls the taxi driver a “stupid Mexican” assuming that he is so simply because he is a cab driver. While riding my bike to my old “hood” I had a little trouble, as I am not used to playing games like this. I found that the people in the game do not exactly enjoy when you hit them with your bike. Once I got home and started walking I noticed that the people on the street are very rude, fitting in with the stereotypes of the neighborhood. When you get near them they usually make rude comments. Also stereotypical of the neighborhood is the prostitutes walking up and down the streets in their mini skirts and bras. Not really sure what to do next I basically just wondered around for a while.Fri, 15 Jan 2010 10:40:13 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4076&iddiary=7612
