In the end, as the character is fighting the demons/monsters in hell, shows that they have gotten what they deserve: something bad. I sort of changed my opinion after watching the video as well. Although many people are upset about the violence in video games and the Columbine game in particular, the opposition has some good points. Hopefully they are in right in saying that people can learn lessons from the game. I do however, agree that the game is definitely no appropriate for young children. Although the game goes against rules of good taste and is very unethical, there are some educational aspects to it. Also, I don't think it inspires violence as some believe. Yes, games cannot inspire violence, but not this one. I believe this to be in a "serious game" category. I believe that if you play this game and enjoy it, you may be in the wrong in some sense. It is meant to make you feel bad playing it. The game creator certainly had the right to make this game. However, should he have? The creator knew that he could hurt the feelings of many people or spawn intense media attention. Indeed, he did spawn intense media reactions and indeed he enraged many people. The media probably did blow it out of proportion, but they are not necessarily wrong. The game should have some sort of age verification to download it. What is disturbing to me, and what makes me think the way I do about the game is the young kids. During the video, they interviewed a teacher who said she had young students cheering on the bad guys of the game. This can teach them bad things. Older people are better able to take it for the educational values. They are able to see that it is serious and a message, which is why there is poor graphics and a lot of dialogue. The dialogue is important in this game. It's where most of the education comes from. This is where you see the creator is trying to tell us that the Columbine Murderers were wrong in what they did.Tue, 23 Feb 2010 13:44:35 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4124&iddiary=7729Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Mon, 22 Feb 2010 23:40:35https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4124Monday: I would like this post to focus on images. Images and depictions are some of the most powerful influential media methods. As they say, actions speak louder than words. I will confidently make the claim that the same goes for images, including those in Columbine Massacre RPG. Although the images in this game aren't violently worse than images in Elf Bowling, combined with a number of things they are very bad images. First, someone that came across the game that may have ties to or could be affected by the real event, could be affected by the actual pictures of the killers in the game. The people you kill are just random depictions of stereotypes, but the killers are made after the real killers, and it shows actual images of them. This combined with the images of the school make it that much worse. What I found shocking is when you go to kill people, whether it be in the hallway, parking lot, classroom, or cafeteria, it shows actual images from columbine high school in the background as you are killing them. Even though the dying people and dead people aren't graphically bad, the idea with it along with the true images actually make it worse. These bad things are unethical and immoral on the level of personal attack, and not necessarily unethical or immoral to all people. Although others could still be offended, it is mostly attacking the people actual involved with the attacks, which make it seem like a personal attack. This creates and arises more ethical dilemmas because it is more specifically targeted.Mon, 22 Feb 2010 23:40:35 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4124&iddiary=7714Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Sun, 21 Feb 2010 18:14:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4124Sunday: The game starts out with the preparation for the day. If the game is intended and designed to show you that the players are lunatics, it certainly does that, instantly! The players call each other on the phone and have explicit conversation and meet in a basement to gather up an arsenal of weapons. Once at school they plant bombs and prepare for the attack against the students. The two characters portrayed in the game do not do anything ethical up to this point, and it appears that they do not have it in them to anything at ethical at all. All actions in the game are 100 percent immoral and 100 percent unethical. Not only are the actions unethical and immoral, but the making of the game itself is both immoral and unethical. What I have seen in this game thus far, would be very hurtful to anyone affected by this incident. I understand that they have the right not to look at or play the game, but it is still wrong to make such a straight forward mockery of the horrible incidents that occurred.Sun, 21 Feb 2010 18:14:51 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4124&iddiary=7698Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC) - Mon, 18 Jan 2010 16:50:11https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4082Jan. 18, 2010 Summing it Up The game is overall an intense example of bad ethical consideration by the game maker. Although the game may not have affect on those who realize it is bad morals, it will have an affect on those who don't realize the difference. Drug use, sex reference, and gang violence is all promoted as a good way of life in this game. In almost all ways of looking at ethics, this example would come up as one that is immoral. The difference between this and other violent games is that in this game it is glamorized. It is a game, so of course the character also gets away with it. Never does the any character in the game say that this way of life that the character is portraying as wrong. If I would change one thing about the game, I would have a different ending that would teach a good moral lesson of ethical value.Mon, 18 Jan 2010 16:50:11 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4082&iddiary=7635Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC) - Sun, 17 Jan 2010 19:50:10https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4082January 17, 2010 The Action The action in this game is very explicit and racist. There is lots of violence, sexual references, and distasteful language. The violence is obviously very blatant. And as for the sexual references, there are hookers and strip clubs all over the imaginary city. The racism is what is most bothersome. Of course there will be violence and sex in a lot of video games. However, there is not always racism, which is almost a bigger ETHICAL issue. (not a bigger issue in general though.) Some lines of ethical thought are based on racism itself. For instance, there are two different law enforcement agencies in the game. City police and county police. Each have their own problems. The city police seem to be very corrupt. They are paid off by certain gangs and have an alliance to give immunity. They also protect the gangs they are paid off by. The county police are seem to be racist. They call the character, CJ, “boy.” The press has recently covered this word when used in certain context, when a Senator referred to African American presidential candidate Barack Obama as “boy.” These instances show just some of the unethical points of “the action” when playing this game.Sun, 17 Jan 2010 19:50:10 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4082&iddiary=7628Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC) - Sun, 17 Jan 2010 02:41:36https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4082Saturday, January 16, 2010 The Introduction The introduction of the game was filled with unethical 'values' one could say. The game during the introduction sequence had racial stereotyping and racial profiling. As well as racial slurs. For the racial stereotyping, it had people of certain races playing stereotypical roles. When they are driving in the police car to the neighborhood, it even includes blatant discussion about the stereotypes, that could be quite offensive to many people. As for the profiling, it includes a scene where they arrest someone just because of who they are and the race they are, they automatically assume he has done something wrong. This is unethical to portray this in the game, because it is a serious ethical topic that breeches our law and order as well as our justice system today. Finally, the racial slurs were very intense and obviously offensive. There is even admittance between the racial police officers that it is offensive. But it is only laughed upon. From experience, all of this could be certainly damaging to a young person that may be playing the game, particularly from where I reside. I come from a very rural area that is unfortunately not blessed with diversity. This means that there is very little interaction between races. If a young absorbent mind such as where I come from were to see that, they may think that is how it is in the real world, and that is how it should be. It obviously should not be that way. This is why we must be careful with ethics and be careful to draw the line somewhere that is fair to all. All people deserve to be treated the same, and with respect.Sun, 17 Jan 2010 02:41:36 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4082&iddiary=7623
