plertudo's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1438Dark Souls (PS3) - Sat, 08 Oct 2011 00:35:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4788It's kind of hard to change to a new weapon since I invested so much death and souls in upgrading my old weapon. The level design is really neat. The farther you go, the more you unlocked path that is closer to the start point. The design is really clever in that even you go really further away from your start point, you can unlock the shortcut so you don't have to travel really far to reach those point again. I like the way you see unreachable passage and when you reach it you can look back and see how hard it is to reach this point and look back at where I started. The visual style is really appealing to me. Especially The sewer and Gaping Dragon. The actual one is more creepy than the one I first saw on screenshot. Also the moment when I killed each boss is so triumphant and heart-stopping. maybe because I took risks when their HPs are really low and it's either me or them. Limiting a potion is a really good change, I think, even if the game is a bit harder, it makes you think strategically and plan ahead if it's worth going into a fight or go back to bonfire to refill your potions. It kind of hint you if you're strong enough to fight with boss in those area. It's still frustrating to die twice and lose all your souls but it's easier to retrieve your lost souls since you will re spawn at a bonfire which should be close to where you die. Even if I fail, I don't feel really bad. I felt like it's easier to gain souls than in Demon SoulsSat, 08 Oct 2011 00:35:51 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4788&iddiary=8852Dark Souls (PS3) - Wed, 05 Oct 2011 21:39:33https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4788After 7 hours of knee deep into the game without doing anything I finally reached the second boss (if I didn't miss anything) They said they'd make it harder and they did. Part of it was you have limited healing resource unlike Demon souls where you can farm for them. In Dark souls, you refill them when you reach check point. The first boss was being really cruel to me. I think I tried him like 1-2 hours before I get to kill him. The satisfaction after that was so great, I couldn't remember the last time it happened. I enjoy exploring and end up unlocking a shortcut to the later area. Even though it's hard to map them in your mind because the map is humongous you still get the 'ahhh' moment when you open the door or take an elevator and end up near the beginning area.Wed, 05 Oct 2011 21:39:33 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4788&iddiary=8849Ico (PS2) - Sat, 01 Oct 2011 22:38:06https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4784This is actually the first time I get to play the famous ICO. The game is really interesting. During Katie Salen's class she mentioned this game and the game's mechanic. Specifically, the hand holding part. I also think it's really interesting too. What I found interesting is the longer I play, the longer I trusted her being by herself in another level while I'm doing my things. I feel like it's an actual human relationship - you kind of building trust over time until you feel comfortable with someone. The puzzle is pretty linear, so I finish the game in less than 5 hour. What I didn't like about this game is the timing puzzle made me a little bit frustrate, the gap of that timing is really small and turns out I got better luck mashing button until I got it than trying to time it.Sat, 01 Oct 2011 22:38:06 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4784&iddiary=8846Bastion (PC) - Wed, 31 Aug 2011 20:08:21https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4731Bastion challenge us with an extra condition where monsters grew stronger in various way. For examples, they drops a bomb after they're dead, or regenerates health. You can take those challenges at the same time, which means they will be really strong while gives you extra xp and money to buy stuff. Bastion also encourage us to try new weapon combinations. The problem is, I , have to admit that I am greedy, want more xps and money. So I take as much challenge as I could during a play through and I failed miserably when I tried different combination at the same time. Turns out I only used 3 out of 12 during the first play trough ( luckily there's new game + which I will definitely try them with other weapons ) There's one part in the game I loved so much. The Kid travels to a bog where he fell asleep and dream of things that happens. I get to experience the old level. It's not about revisiting an old content though. It's more like a more story behind what happened.Wed, 31 Aug 2011 20:08:21 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4731&iddiary=8740Bastion (PC) - Mon, 29 Aug 2011 23:27:26https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4731Finally get to try Bastion, an independent dev's game. The gameplay , somehow, reminds me of Diablo where you hack and slashes stuff. the difference is you have two weapon and one skill of your choice at a time. What makes me dig into this game is a dynamic narration. The story is told by a point of view of another man besides your character. He tells us everything from a crucial part of the story to a behavior of your character, says you are destroying things laying around a level, the narrator says 'The Kid just rages for awhile' I went through a little bit of the game tonight, One line makes me feel that the story is well written and strong. *spoiler alert* At some point in the game The Kid will find a survivor. The narrator says "What do you say to a man who has seen too much. who knows. The Kid says this, 'we have to go, please'" I feel like this is such a really strong line. In a world that has been crumbled and everything is falling apart, after the narrator, an old wise man, says this, I fell deep into the world of Bastion.Mon, 29 Aug 2011 23:27:26 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4731&iddiary=8737Marvel vs Capcom 3 Fate of Two Worlds (PS3) - Wed, 20 Jul 2011 21:31:01https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4686I get to play with friends who beats me like a baby playing Takken 6 ,which I have a lot more confidence than MvC3. Turns out I somehow better at this game than my friends. I learned more aspect of each character (my friends have very odd roster like She-hulk, Dr.Doom and Ironman) I also get to try Chun-Li and Taskmaster (like serious play) Taskmaster is a defensive mindset and plays on counter (my main character in Takken 6 is Asuka Kazama who is specialized in counter as well) I enjoyed playing Taskmaster than Magneto. Magneto's concept is to control the opponent's range by his attack and counter when they gets too close to him while Taskmaster is a melee based character with some of ranged attack. Seems like I have a lot more things to learn in MvC3 Now I'm more interested in learning to play Amaterasu. Ps. One thing I noticed is that we only pick Zero once during the entire night. I feel like it's for kids who wants to be cool. (No, he's not cool at all)Wed, 20 Jul 2011 21:31:01 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4686&iddiary=8663L.A. Noire (PS3) - Thu, 30 Jun 2011 16:24:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4691I've been wanting to play this game for a long time. The interrogation aspect of the game is not of my taste. I feel frustrated to get the answer wrong and having to restart the game a lot during the first few case. Turns out it is easier for me to look at the walkthrough instead. The curiosity of how the story plays out got over my self honesty to play the game straight. Driving around the city is tricky. The game is not made for driving, it is hard to control your car. I'm trying not to hit a car and pedestrian (The less you hit stuff, the better star you got at the end of the case) I don't like this constrain because it creates conflicts between two aspect. Because I should try to follow the law so I don't hit anything. this means It will took more time to get to the next location. Also there sometimes will be street crime when you are driving and respond to a radio (I only enjoy this because of achievement) I think Finding clues in scene is the best aspect of the game. The sound and vibration hint is really neat. it gives you an idea of how much further you are in that scene. Somehow I couldn't play this game for too long or I would fall asleep. And I did fall asleep while I am driving a car to the scene. (Just like I used to fall asleep when I am driving back home from my university , luckily I didn't hit anything unlike in this game, I did hit a few car and broke dozens of red light)Thu, 30 Jun 2011 16:24:51 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4691&iddiary=8658Marvel vs Capcom 3 Fate of Two Worlds (PS3) - Sun, 12 Jun 2011 12:02:38https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4686I played this with a friend of mine. I have to say that I have a home advantage because I know the basic control of the game while my friend, Yan ,has never played before. Being grown up with my brother, we always play fighting games so I am pretty good at playing it. Even though I am more familiar with Takken type control and button combination, Simplifying the classic control of Street fighter 2 to this one is interesting. There are few interesting character that encourage different mechanic. Such as Thor, He is so slow that I was always hit by his low attack which is faster. This makes be more careful with timing and what happened was I hit him a few times and our health dropped to almost the same amount. I usually tends to pick a fast character like Felicia and Wolverine. but after I gave him a few advantage by picking random characters. I enjoy using Thor as an alternative. Another element that I found it interesting is that some of the special ability will have a different direction depending on which attack button you are using. What interest me is that, the low attack always straight while high attack goes up vertically. This, I believe, encourage players not to use only the high attack. this mechanic subtlety teaches you to be more careful when playing. While I slowly try new things and being careful, my friends loves the button smash approach. It turns out good for him. He hit me with unexpected moves but I usually win the match. (If I remember correctly, I won 30-ish matches and lose 1 match.Sun, 12 Jun 2011 12:02:38 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4686&iddiary=8647Mafia 2 (PC) - Sun, 12 Jun 2011 02:19:25https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4685I played through the first two chapters. The tutorial is fine, tying your back story with it. Driving in this kind of game is always hard. I got the atmosphere of Grand Theft Auto while playing this game. I'm trying to find an element that distinguish Mafia 2 from GTA, so far no luck yet.Sun, 12 Jun 2011 02:19:25 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4685&iddiary=8646
