Overall pretty good. One of the problems I had was with the Road to the Striker Cup. Way too restrictive. You have to go continuously for what could be 30+ matches to finish the game. When you lose the cup you have to start from the beginning of the cup, doesn't matter if it's your fault or not (i.e. blackout turns off the Wii during the match, still counts as a forfeit). Also you can't adapt to the cup's difficulties (e.g. change captain or sidekicks) unless you want to start over from the beginning of the entire game. There is one thing that impressed me the most and that was the character expression. Rarely do you ever see Bowser moping with sad puppy dog eyes. ~Sol~Wed, 22 Aug 2007 21:28:38 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1572&iddiary=3275Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (Wii) - Tue, 17 Jul 2007 01:49:49https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1571Long time no see, eh? Today's coverage is on Banana Blitz. I had one major problem that, if not an issue would have made this a good game: the camera. You're a monkey in a ball rolling around platforms. The camera follows your backside the entire time, whether you want it to or not. There's only one angle, up close to your backside. It's really annoying because it makes movement very awkward which is bad because the moving camera could contradict the direction you want to go in. Another issue I had in the game involved the play and story structure. There is one story in which you must find some golden banana bunch pieces but getting each piece is a run through of the game with the same staff credits after each boss. Also, through each run through after you pass a stage, you can't go back to it to try to improve your score. I always like to go through a stage after I passed it once to try to get every little thing that was left but it wasn't possible in this game which left me a little disappointed. Overall, so far, I'm kind of glad I only rented this game. ~Sol~Tue, 17 Jul 2007 01:49:49 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1571&iddiary=3268Sonic and The Secret Rings (Wii) - Sun, 06 May 2007 19:34:24https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1542I finished the last boss and restored the book of the Arabian Nights. It was interesting to see the mid battle cut scenes though I wished the transition was seamless instead of briefing blacking out back to the character. I hope there's a soundtrack for this coming out because, being the music junkie that I am, the music held up to the standards of Sonic music I had since Sonic Adventure 2. It was a mix of genres but had the Arabian theme to it. I particularly loved the Main Theme, the Night Palace, and battling Erazor Djinn. Now that I finished it, there are a lot of extras to be unlocked. This is where I start to understand the complaint about how the game gets way too difficult. Unlocking some of the secrets involve either finding Fire Souls or getting Medals. The Medals are going to be the ones that are extremely hard. You get them by completing the mission in the fastest time possible. Rarely do I get a bronze medal and it'll be a long way before I get a Gold one. It just doesn't seem possible at all considering the amount of control I need to make a perfect execution.Sun, 06 May 2007 19:34:24 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1542&iddiary=3234Sonic and The Secret Rings (Wii) - Sun, 22 Apr 2007 17:35:15https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1542I played through the first chapter and I must say that I am intrigued at the rail approach with the Wii Remote. Like most game I've played on Wii, it felt a little awkward but I am getting used to it. The one thing that is catching my attention is the mix of arab and rock music. I will continue play to see if the claims of steep difficulty are well founded. EDIT: One thing I didn't anticipate was the toll it was going to take on my arm, it hurts from a little bit after the elbow to about halfway towards my wrist... ~Sol~ (This entry has been edited1 time. I became interested in the microgames series when it came for the Nintendo DS. I kept wondering how it would play out on the Wii. So I rented it. I was very happy overall with my experience. I found the instructions on how to hold the remote (since there was about 21 or so different positions) hilarious. It sounded like something from a corny yoga video. Aside from that all the microgames were very fun and intuitive. The only problem I had was in one of the vacuum games where it just felt awkward trying to act like I was vacuuming. I like the concept of the microgames. I feel that it's perfect for people like me who want to get a few minutes of game play in without having to do very complicated things. I would certainly recommend it for its fast pace and simple interactivity. ~Sol~Fri, 09 Mar 2007 01:30:22 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1505&iddiary=3179StarCraft: Brood War (PC) - Sun, 25 Feb 2007 21:51:13https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1498I was invited to play this after my copy has been sitting at my desk for a long time. It didn't take long to relive the inherent issue in multiplayer games: there's a deep rift between new players, intermediate player, advanced players, and even rusty players that is made clear when these players play together. A 3v2 battle is guaranteed to result in the 2 team winning. There is none of this "they might pull it off this time" or "this is going to be a close battle" feeling in the gameplay. There's only this "I wonder how long we'll last this time before all of our entrails are scattered across the plains" feeling from the 3 partnered together. If the win is up in the air, it's fun to see who'll take it, but most players stop playing if it's in the air and there's a hurricane wind blowing towards one team all the time. By the time we were done playing most of us were pretty furious that we couldn't stay in the game for more than one minute. So we all just stopped playing. ~Sol~Sun, 25 Feb 2007 21:51:13 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1498&iddiary=3153Final Fantasy (PSP) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 05:16:43https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1391Ok... either there's a game balance issue, I'm having a bad luck streak, or I'm just really bad at this. This time two creeps killed me off. The damage actually dealt ranges a little too much, from 3 to 25. I'm sure if I can figure out the inner mechanics of the game I'll probably do better. Until then it looks like luck will dictate whether I live or die. ~Sol~Fri, 23 Feb 2007 05:16:43 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1391&iddiary=2951Final Fantasy (PSP) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 04:41:03https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1391Here's a game I've never played in full earnest before. From my knowledge of the world of games Final Fantasy set the standard of the RPG realm. So I tried to see how far I'd get. Well... I didn't get very far. I died soon after. Darn wolves. So I guess there's a lot more to it than that... The level design seems pretty hard, I suppose... ~Sol~Fri, 23 Feb 2007 04:41:03 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1391&iddiary=2945Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent (Wii) - Sun, 11 Feb 2007 03:38:49https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1160I'm playing this a bit more because I'm actually a bit curious to see the storyline on folding, I'm almost approaching hour 2 on the first mission. It's going really slow. I'm getting used to some of the mechanics of sneaking around. I'm starting to figure out the thresholds of detection. The precision of movement felt a little bit awkward. I want to go one way and it decides to go another. One more major annoyance I found now is the camera. I just found it very hard to control and it made concentrating my field of vision more difficult, especially the zoom. I tire my arm holding the Wiimote up for so long concentrating on a specific spot. Well back to finishing at least the first level before I have to return it. ~Sol~Sun, 11 Feb 2007 03:38:49 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1160&iddiary=2792Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent (Wii) - Fri, 09 Feb 2007 14:37:48https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1160Well I've been on it for another while, and it hasn't changed much. I'm still as frustrated. It's been really slow going, so I haven't progressed much. To answer Zinn's question, it would seem that not much thought was put in to some of the controls. I am starting to learn where my limits are when I sneak around, so that's bringing back a slight interest back. There's no real background music so that puts me a little bit on edge. I would change how information is given to me in the middle of the mission. I'm sneaking around and all of a sudden I'm interrupted by the loud radio transmission. That greatly distracted me. Rent it first to see if it's in your tastes before buying. I have mixed feelings toward it.Fri, 09 Feb 2007 14:37:48 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1160&iddiary=2656
