aleezy23's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1574Jak III (PS2) - Mon, 10 Dec 2012 18:23:56https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5463In this entry I’m going back to the Playstation 2 with the famous, Jak 3. Jak 3 is the third entry in the Jak and Daxter series. The gameplay is well done and fun to play. The game is a platformer so as expected be prepared to jump and brawl against your enemies. The vehicles have been brought back into the game with new varieties of dune buggy styles. As you progress through the story you will unlock new vehicles with their own weapons and abilities. For example, one buggy is equipped with springs on all four wheels allowing for the high-jump ability, or the rhino buggy that is built for armor and durability. Jak’s weapons are roughly the same as the last game but with new additions. Altogether you have four guns each one has three different modes with its own ability and range. Jak himself comes in with a number of new powers. If you are familiar with the Jak and Daxter series in Jak 2, Jak was combines with dark echo transforming him into Dark Jak. In this game Jak still has the ability to transform into Dark Jak. As Dark Jak you have strong and fast striking attacks with numerous powers, such as his Dark Bomb that strikes enemies all around you. Jak’s new powers come into play when he is infused with light echo becoming Light Jak. As Light Jak he has the ability to fly, regenerated and freeze time. With these two new abilities Jak is one to be reckoned with just be wise when using his new abilities, due to the light and dark meter that has to replenish over time to be used again. Overall this game is highly entertaining as this is fairly a challenging game that has many collectibles and mini missions to do. The gameplay is engaging that you would want to try and try again just to finish a mission, as the feel of completion is very satisfying.Mon, 10 Dec 2012 18:23:56 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5463&iddiary=9760Sonic All Star Racing Transformed (Arcade) - Tue, 04 Dec 2012 22:29:29https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5409Thanks to my friend I played the new Sonic the Hedgehog game, Sonic: All Star Racing Transformed. This game isn’t a bad game for a kart racer. The game involves tight drifts, blasting pass your opponents with a variety of items and vehicle transformations. Each track has different environments that will transform your vehicle that suits that environment. At first I wasn’t sure if this game was going to be successful for me with the transformations, but I quickly got converted to it, that to a point it was not dull for me at all. You might start of in a regular race car, but will soon change into a boat because you dropped into the water, or if your car jumps into the air the car will sprout wings. When racing and your car has transformed, the battle for the win becomes more exciting and thrilling. In the boat you face whirlpools and huge waves, but in the air you have a large degree of flying freedom. For example, the Afterburner race, you start off on an aircraft carrier and will quickly transform to take flight, flying through boost rings and beaming your enemies with your potshot items. What I also like about the game is that it gives you a choice of transformations at some points so, for instance. I can drive one way to the water to take the boat route or turn the other way to jump to the skies. The tracks can provide a nice amount of variety of paths to explore and get use to the transformations to car, boat and plane. The power-ups within the game provide a decent amount of selections. There are the traditional boosts and rocket attacks, yet has the addition of tornado moves, a three stage vehicle boost, and one that caught my eye was a baseball mitt that you can use to cancel an attack that is incoming on you. The items are pretty well balance none of them are highly overpowered enough to ruin a race for you. Even the characters themselves will have an effect of the vehicle their driving, because each character has their own ability such as Tails firing missile salvos. Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed is a great game to be added into the racing genre, as it holds its own against other series. I’d recommend it to not only the few remaining die-hard Sega fans, but for anyone who’s looking for a high pace, thrilling racing game.Tue, 04 Dec 2012 22:29:29 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5409&iddiary=9698Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (PS3) - Mon, 26 Nov 2012 19:10:11https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5375For me the finally anticipated Tekken Tag Tournament 2 brings a pure fighting experience with plenty of fighters and styles to the playing field. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has its Fight Lab mode that has you fixing up a combat robot named, Combot, to your fighting style. From the start you have a tutorial with a nice narrative, as Fight Lab does a well done job in teaching me the buttons of the tag system. As I had progressed through each stage it earned me customization points, that I can assign to Combot to increase his fighting criteria. At the end of the Fight Lab stages, I had a custom built fighter set to my fighting style. Considering that it is a tutorial and a create-a-fighter kind of mode, Namco did a great job to accustom myself to the fighting mechanics in the game. While the Fight Lab mode customization points are spent on Combot, I was free to spend other points from the standard matches on any of the available characters. Through the customization feature I was able to create many changes to any of my characters attire and/or appearance, or go out of the ordinary and equip odd hats or fruit weaponry. The core gameplay of Tag Tournament retains responsive controls and a high amount of fighters to choose from. Teaming up with a partner offers new combat abilities such as special throws or destructive tag assaults. Even the online gameplay is high pace with hardly any lag when focusing on the Tekken Tag experience. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 doesn’t disappoint as the new entry in the franchise retrains the series solid gameplay that makes it a highly refined fighter that I’ve played this year.Mon, 26 Nov 2012 19:10:11 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5375&iddiary=9672Need for Speed: The Run (360) - Mon, 26 Nov 2012 19:08:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5374When I first heard about Need for Speed: The Run it was very interesting to find out that I could now take the gameplay out of the car. The Run contains break necking races, out of the car sequences that offer new gameplay mechanics, and a back and forth storyline that ties it to being a Need for Speed game. However, even though the game contains these elements it fails to bring them altogether. After I beat the game I had sped across America, avoided the mob and cheated death in a number of ways, but in the end I was left with an experience that was hard to engage into. My issue with the game is that the race to one end of the world to the other did not give me a lot of highlights to engage myself into. The out of the car sequences are small quick time events that gives it a novel style gameplay. I remember one of the sequences was when I was stuck inside a car on a train track after a car crash that triggered a quick time event. I did enjoy this event because it gave me different choices to escape my near death situation. Yet, it was a few out of many where the out of the car experience works well. As the events are awesome to experience I expected to do more during these events as well as last a little longer depending on the event. The racing itself isn’t dull as the environments are well done for where ever I was racing in. The many cities of America, the Nevada desert or the regions of Middle America, making the races themselves look great, filled with heart throbbing racing through the oncoming traffic and avoiding the pestering cops and the mob. As good as the races are I wouldn’t mind having a few more variety within the races themselves, as many of them are linear with a just a few shortcuts that make some of the races a letdown. The Run’s storyline doesn’t really have any depth, character interest or story twists that I would expected in an anticipating game as this. Need for Speed: The Run isn’t completely a bad game but it fails to capitalize on its chances. The cross country gameplay from California to New York makes the game a ways to the end but feels even longer when not enough happens in between the races themselves to keep the interest going.Mon, 26 Nov 2012 19:08:51 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5374&iddiary=9671God of War: Ghost of Sparta (PSP) - Sun, 11 Nov 2012 15:37:10https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5340I recently picked up the psp game God of War: Ghost of Sparta, weather its killing gods or traversing the underworld, Kratos is defined by his epic exploits. When I played the first psp game Chains of Olympus I was surprised that an epic game can be done on a small screen. Compared to the first game Ghost of Sparta in every way has been enhanced, creating an experience that standouts in an already incredible trilogy. The story is well put together set between the first and second games, it goes more in depth on Kratos childhood life with untold stories about his younger days and family. I would like to say more but I can’t spoil it for the new comers, but the story is well connected to the rest of the series that it feels like it should have been the first God of war game. Ghost of Sparta has its usual combat style but has a new addition, a fire meter that is below the health and magic meter. The fire ability turns him into a regular Human Torch that allows Kratos to deal more damage and plants delayed fire explosives with certain strikes. Plus, the meter increases rapidly so you will always have it when needed, it is not a weapon its part of Kratos so its fun that Ready at Dawn had integrated it into your moves. Another fighting mechanic is a run and tackle move that makes Kratos feel more brutal and maneuverable. The evade roll is still tied to the shoulder buttons and same to the last game it is still unreliable and rough when done. Ghost of Sparta doesn’t have allot of huge epic moments as the console games, but it does stack up nicely with a bunch of cool events that builds Kratos back story. The amazing visual quality and good contextual sequences makes it a must for God of War fans.Sun, 11 Nov 2012 15:37:10 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5340&iddiary=9624Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (360) - Sun, 04 Nov 2012 21:34:47https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5316Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, is an ambitious title featuring twin career modes that give us the choice to play the notorious racer or the renowned cop in the area of Seacrest County. Within the game you can progress and switch between being the racer or the cop as desired, allowing you to wear the badge or defy it. This feature keeps you in the game bringing up new events, cars and weapons that are exclusive to either the racer or cop. As the racer you are tested (against the cops, by yourself, or other racers) with the traditional lap races, time trials and of course racing the hottest cars. The cop missions focuses on rapid response calls, taking down racers in interceptor mode and test driving new police cars. Within hot pursuit mode as the cop or racer you have options between offensive or defensive equipments. Both cops and racers have the option to use spike stripes and EMP blast. For special abilities, racers can use the turbo boost and radar jammers, and as the cop you can call in for assistance by bringing in helicopters or roadblocks. The hot pursuit mode is the most intense mode bringing in tools for strategy that makes it standout in this version of Need for Speed. As you progress through the game the missions will start to get more challenging and difficult. As a racer the cops will get very aggressive with their cars and equipment to take you down. As a cop, racers will become less predictable, executes their equipment better and driving skills will constantly keep you changing directions. Luckily throughout the hardships you will rank up, unlocks new events, vehicles and upgrades to your equipment. You gain these rewards based on your driving skills, such as drifting, drafting, near misses, etc. The only issue I had was that the camera would time to time show a cutaway showing an epic crash you caused would then cut back to your car that is still at high speed, thus may aim you towards a bad situation. However to say, Criterion has made a successful game within the series gaining notoriety becoming Seacrest County’s most wanted racer or ultimate enforcer. The variety of car classes for either the cop or racer keeps you in the game exploring through the different speeds. The stunning levels are diverse showing the many weather changes and times of day, as you drive the car that best suits you.Sun, 04 Nov 2012 21:34:47 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5316&iddiary=9603spiderman: shattered dimension (PS3) - Sun, 28 Oct 2012 14:10:42https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5296As all of you should know there are many different versions of a web-slinger known as, Spider-Man. Developed by Beenox Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions focuses on four different Spider-Man characters each within their own time. The main characters have their own world, art style, gameplay that keeps the player engaged and wanting for more. For example, The Amazing Spider-Man is a more modern world, while 2099’s world is more futuristic. Amazing Spider-Man’s world has amazing environments and his web based combat felt swift and strong. Plus, I loved going through 2099’s neon style environment and the free-falling combat made his world very intense. Ultimate Spider-Man’s world puts you in the black suit giving you up close but also range based combat. Plus, Ultimate Spider-Man is equipped with a rage meter that fills up the more you defeat your enemies, giving you a power boost that helps when you are surrounded by numerous foes. Yet, out of all the Spider-Man universes Spider-Man Noir was the most fun, because even though it isn’t an in-your face all out bash gameplay, it has stealth based levels where the shadows are your friend and silent takedowns are a must. Noir’s stealth and silent gameplay is much like Batman: Arkham Asylum/City. Even with each boss fight regardless of which universe extends to head-on quick-time events on the boss themselves, and the environment (rocks, walls, pillars, etc.) to take them down instead of just attacking at the large health bar. I also enjoyed the Web of Destiny challenges, which are side tasks within the main story. The challenges allow Spider-Man to gain new moves, costumes, collectibles that you gain when you complete parts of the story in special ways, if it was taking down an enemy or running through the map in a certain amount of time. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is a great game it does have its issues with the camera when climbing walls or you zip to fast on screen, but it does give non-stop action with new surprises and gameplay with each level and universe.Sun, 28 Oct 2012 14:10:42 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5296&iddiary=9582Batman Arkham City (PS3) - Sun, 21 Oct 2012 22:44:54https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5280Batman enters Arkham City the new home for the most outrageous criminals and psychotic criminals run amok. The city has become a prison with each section of the prison transformed to bear the signature of the villains controlling it. For example, The Joker lies within a Carnival, The Penguin nests in a museum and Two-Face in a courtroom. This is a well crafted game making it into a bigger open world facing many leads through a mystery plot that goes through great character moments until the unforgettable conclusion. Arkham City does an incredible job showing off the cape crusader’s ability to switch between combatant, predator and detective. The new glide mechanic now has a dive bomb move that extends his flight speed and distance, improving the navigation of the city much easier and helps insist with combat and the grappling hook. The combat hasn’t completely changed by has been improved allowing Batman to attack different enemies in new ways, such as stun, longer assaults and enemy down attacks. Batman’s countering system makes him more diverse countering many enemies at the same time, starting with a kick to the face, to a punch to the head and then smashing to heads together. Thus, making Batman a far more agile and punishable combatant. Aside from the main story the side missions offer more variety across the city that is mapped out to specific villains. For example, finding Mr. Freezes wife or following the murders of Deadshot. The side content does help players to extend their time on exploring the Arkham City experience. Also in this game the player can explore the city as Catwoman, her story intertwines with Batman’s, yet it is a little part of it, but still enjoyable. She has her own moves to attack or interact with the city using her claws or whip. Plus, I like that Rocksteady gave her, her own story/side missions and challenges to allow the player to spend time using Catwomen and not just making her an add-in. In conclusion, the game is astonishing as it stands tall towards its predecessor bringing out the greatest of Batman’s moments. The city is very detailed with dark areas and architecture that shows off the villainous environments. The famous Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill never disappoint making the characters classic interactions come to life. The combat is very fluid making Batman’s maneuverability in the open world very impressive. Batman Arkham City is defiantly one of the best video games that Rocksteady Studios has released.Sun, 21 Oct 2012 22:44:54 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5280&iddiary=9563Transformers: War for Cybertron (PS3) - Mon, 15 Oct 2012 18:32:54https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5254Before playing Transformers: Fall of Cybertron I had to play the prequel, Transformers: War for Cybertron. High Moon did their job in bringing the Transformers to life in the most outstanding ways for the fans. War for Cybertron follows the story of both the Autobots and Decepticons, Megatron lust for power and order brings destruction to Cybertron. Optimus Prime must stand against Megatron to stop his plans and bring back what was once a peaceful Cybertron. High Moon did such a great job in brining in the iconic characters, like Soundwave, Sideswipe, Starscream, Iron Hide, etc. As well as within the story High Moon gives good plot inserts such as, how Optimus became a Prime or how the Matrix was created. The game is an excellent shooter it has a well developed style of combat for robot or vehicle that never gets dull. It has a over the shoulder gunplay that consist of a variety of guns that alters the arm of the Transformer and gunplay combat. Every level in the campaign has three unique characters each one with its own ability or class. For example, Optimus is in the class of Leader and has the War Cry ability which grants himself and the other two Autobots with increase power. No matter which campaign you are playing the game looks amazing and sounds incredible. The animation on the environment and each Transformer is very detailed as the movement on the structures and the character’s body moves realistically. The voices for each character are great as the dialogue brings the serious or comical dialogue for what you expect from each Transformer. Transformers: War for Cybertron is a great shooter/action video game. It fulfills in many ways why the Transformers dominated my early childhood as High Moon brought to life the best in the Transformers.Mon, 15 Oct 2012 18:32:54 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5254&iddiary=9532Prototype 2 (360) - Sun, 07 Oct 2012 16:49:56https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5232Prototype 2 involves revolving around skyscrapers, stealing the form of anyone in your path and forming weapons with your morphing abilities, all within the infectious city of New York City. If you haven’t played the first Prototype, New York has been infected again by the Backlight virus. The former main character Alex Mercer is a darker character than before, and has been replaced with the new protagonist James Heller. With a more brutal character that reminds me of the same attitude and style as God of War’s Kratos, Heller is no push over. The cutscenes are in a stylish black, white and red highlight, way better than the cutscenes from the last game. Heller has the same abilities as Mercer, but with more benefits. The controls feel more responsive as I can flow through the city no problem, if it’s for a side mission or escaping the military. However, what I like most about the game is that I can use two powers at the same time matched with the square and triangle buttons, allowing for a mix-up of heavy and light attacks. For example, I used the Claws for fast swift attacks on square and then hit the triangle button for the Hammer Fist for strong ground attacks. Unlike Mercer, Heller has a great defensive option, because you are constantly being attacked from close or long range. Just by pressing the block button Heller releases a shield that will block and parry any move from a monster and reflect weapon fire from the military. This is the perfect shield for putting you in a defensive or offensive position, depending on how you want to take it. Prototype 2 is a way better version than the last game, as it feels like an Altiar to an Ezio. I can use the powers in any way a wish as Radical gives me the free will to do so. If you haven’t played the first game, Prototype 2 will fill in those blanks so you won’t even have to worry about it. Prototype 2 is the game for high entertainment with great sounds, cutscences and crazy unique combat makes the game come to life.Sun, 07 Oct 2012 16:49:56 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5232&iddiary=9507
