Tenoshikami's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1582Limbo (PC) - Wed, 05 Dec 2012 07:56:27https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5413Let me start off by saying that limbo is of the most original games I have played in my life. This black and white plat former really challenges any user that plays it but not in a bad way. Some games are challenging because the mechanics are hard to control or the game is to hard to follow. Limbo is just really complex and the puzzles take a great deal of thinking and intuition. It may take awhile to solve one but in once you conquer a puzzle you feel so great about yourself. I remember playing limbo and having like a little celebratory party every time I conquered a really hard or difficult puzzle. Limbo is a solid plat former with the focus of pleasing and challenging its audience and it excelled at it. Even the story line was good with this game. Limbo did everything it needed to do to make a great playable game. Hopefully these programmers will make another game soon that is just as good.Wed, 05 Dec 2012 07:56:27 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5413&iddiary=9705Assassins Creed III (360) - Tue, 27 Nov 2012 20:24:41https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5384The Assassin's Creed series has really captured the heart of modern gamer's. The saga in now on its fifth release of the series and seems to have no end in sight. Don't get me wrong its a good thing, to many games nowadays try and force this unreasonable plots and too predictable battle mechanic or even first person shooters. It's nice to have a game that doesn't just involve guns, mainstream stereotypical "bad ass marine" characters littering the screen. Assassin's Creed's gripping climbing and free running like mechanic and variable fighting styles captures all aspects gamer's want from large sandbox games. It also has an impressive story and reconstructive view of past societies. Such as old Boston in this case. No one has ever seen what Boston really looked like to the human eye till now yet today while playing Assassin's Creed we can walk the streets like people probably did back then from the comfort of our own homes. One more thing Creed features the involvement of multiple religious belief and features a good amount of historical and religious accuracy. Granted the characters from the games are not real yet their factions were and that is enough to involve very important dates of history and historical events into the game play. It shows how games can used for entertainment but also a way to learn or discover more about our world and our world's history.Tue, 27 Nov 2012 20:24:41 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5384&iddiary=9680The Oregon Trail (PC) - Tue, 20 Nov 2012 09:50:24https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5362If you asked me what my years in middle school or even what I learned in middle school the first thing that would come to mind would be Oregon Trail. Everyday rushing through my work in typing class just so I could play Oregon Trail. A simple RPG role playing game, with a strategy based decision mechanic. You decide your profession then your off in to unknown with your family and cart and either death or a brand new glorious life awaits you. Through the hardships of disease accidents and fast flowing rivers. Historically its an accurate description of threats settlers would face however as a game it's more fun then the settlers back then actually had.Tue, 20 Nov 2012 09:50:24 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5362&iddiary=9652Eternal Sonata (360) - Mon, 12 Nov 2012 23:58:30https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5343There is no doubt that games have taught me things about myself and one of my biggest lesson's was when I purchased Eternal Sonata. Never judge a book (a game in this case) by its cover. Looking at Eternal Sonata through the glass of the display case it seemed so innocent and a awesome adventure waiting to happen. Its art was incredible its story was unique, and the characters were very reasonable. However a game with the prettiest art in the world can't be a good game without good mechanics. Eternal Sonata's mechanics were... dismal at best. A turn based fight system didn't really fit well with the game. Plus the attacks and actual battle system had to be rated in the biggest degree of failure. It could have been near perfection but a simple mechanic based decision turns it into one of the worst games on the market today.Mon, 12 Nov 2012 23:58:30 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5343&iddiary=9631Soul Calibur 5 (PS3) - Wed, 07 Nov 2012 18:12:38https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5327I would be very confident in saying that I like and am a pretty decent gamer when it comes to fighting games and I will even say that for Soul Calibur 5. The only thing truly wrong with this game is that one character is very broken, but other than that it's fair and most importantly fun. The thing with Soul Calibur is that your character can move laterally and not just forward and back. I know Soul Calibur is not the first game to implement this mechanic but it is the first game I think of when I see that mechanic in other games. Soul Calibur has a kind of spell once you start playing you have a hard time stopping. I found it hard to even put the controller down for ten minutes to write this quick review. I would highly recommend this game to anyone with a playstation 3 or an xbox360.Wed, 07 Nov 2012 18:12:38 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5327&iddiary=9616Borderlands 2 (360) - Tue, 30 Oct 2012 16:57:29https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5299Since I've been doing a bunch of older games I thought it would be good to touch base with something new or that people have been raving over for the past couple of weeks. Borderlands 2. First off I tip my hat to the creators but I must say I'm booing the guy who though of the missions. First off add an actual tutorial teach people how to play. My friend who owns an xbox but has not played a lot of borderlands was at a lost to the controls. He basically had to learn to use his loadout screen by trial and error and the amount of text based pointers were overwelming. Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying borderlands 2 is terrible, it just needs some work in the intro and maybe a slight change to combat but other than that the characters, scenery and items were pretty epic. I enjoyed playing it and I look forward to playing more of it. However maybe this will teach them in future to not forget about those who haven't played a lot or any of their previous games.Tue, 30 Oct 2012 16:57:29 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5299&iddiary=9585Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town (GBA) - Mon, 22 Oct 2012 20:21:49https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5283Last week I visited the hell named "Farmville" and to keep in theme I decided to play one of the best games of all time, that farmville ripped up on and destroyed. Farmville was basically Harvest Moon on "no challenge mode" it gave no actual challenge to any player, however Harvest Moon made you actually try. It was timed, your farmer did not have unlimited energy and he had to actually sell his crops, not just harvest them. Real variables were also included, seasons for example and feed to keep farm animals alive. It made every action and gold spent actually means something. One wrong step and you could have to start again from the ground up. The best thing however is that Harvest Moon was a farming game that was fun and had role playing! Good role playing involving social situations and even love. Basically Harvest Moon > Farmville any day!Mon, 22 Oct 2012 20:21:49 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5283&iddiary=9566Farmville (PC) - Tue, 16 Oct 2012 00:19:28https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5264I was once part of the Farmville craze many years back when it was popular but back then I was not aiming to become a game designer and now after hearing about it in class I thought it would be good to return to replay the game again except this time to learn instead of to farm for no reason. I wasn't very keen on Farmville even back when it was popular, to me it was just a simple and to easy version of Harvest Moon and truthfully that's all it really was. Though even for a ripoff it did pretty well. I can't deny that once you plant your first set of crops that it seems to haunt your memory well into your day. I found it distracting trying to study for my Japanese midterm without Farmville being an occasional thought floating in and out of my brain. It was just simple which just made it so addicting... even with all the random crap they added all you wanna do is just plant crops harvest them, expand your farm, then do it all over again. Again and again with no visible end to the madness. All I can say is its good but to addicting and if it weren't for very reliable friends I would not be here not doing this game log.Tue, 16 Oct 2012 00:19:28 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5264&iddiary=9543Pokemon: Fire Red (GBA) - Tue, 02 Oct 2012 11:28:01https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5222What else can I say about the pokemon series other than that they are probably one of the best video game series ever devised. The pokemon games are simple left right up down movement along with turn based fights between the monsters you collect. The reason that this works so well and the reason behind their popularity is their story. Pokemon has one of the best story telling concepts this world has ever seen. The show was extremely popular and the characters were dearly loved. Then you give the chance to everyday people who can now play as Ash the Pokemon master to travel around the world collecting rare Pokemon and beating eight gym leaders. Simple mechanics, good story line, lovable characters equals a great game every time.Tue, 02 Oct 2012 11:28:01 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5222&iddiary=9497Cut The Rope (iPd) - Mon, 24 Sep 2012 23:07:49https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5187In game 101 last week my class was introduced to a very puzzling and difficult game I volunteered to play in front of the glass. Cut the Rope is a strategy/game of wits that makes the player thing outside the box.. or should I say inside it to make a little monster creature eat a piece of candy. The game will start with a piece of red candy attached to rope which you can cut to make it fall/swing. Using lots of math related trajectory ideals the player has to find the innovative way to make the piece of candy get to the cute monsters while trying to collect as many star's as possible. The game also features other mechanics such as bubbles/spiders/and ropes that grab hold when the candy gets close enough. It allows for numerous levels and also makes it more aggravating with every progression. As a perfectionist this game quickly got under my skin evoking a emotion of immense rage that I ended up throwing stuff across my room in anger at one level in particular. Overall Cut the rope is a very quirky but fun little pocket game that is a great brain teaser I highly recommend it, also it's theme really attaches you to the little monster you feed the candy too. When you fail a mission he looks sad, making you feel bad you couldn't get the little guy his candy. 9.2 stars out of ten download the free version today and play.Mon, 24 Sep 2012 23:07:49 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5187&iddiary=9460
