13u12n's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=173Katamari Damacy (PS2) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 15:51:37https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1423Well, I played the game some more, it wasn't really that satisfying. I get the feeling that this game can easily become really repetitive. This playthrough was more of the same. It hasn't become boring yet, but maybe it would get there after another hour. Then again, I was really looking forward to rolling up buildings, ferris wheels, humans, and other cool stuff like on the box cover. I got through the crab level. Since it's about stars, I guess it's cool that they included constellations or whatever. I also tried the 2-player mode with my girlfriend. I thought it was pretty fun. It adds another element to the game. Either way, the game was good, but I still think it lacked that extra something that puts it over the top. It gets extra points for originality and humor though.Fri, 23 Feb 2007 15:51:37 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1423&iddiary=3032Katamari Damacy (PS2) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 14:25:25https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1423Well, I've heard of the Katamari series, but never tried it because I wasn't too interested in rolling a ball around to pick stuff up. The first thing I thought when I started playing this game was that Japanese people are weird, but then again, that's what makes them cool. The storyline is so off that its funny, which is what I think they were going for. The controls were simple enough, although I wasn't totally coordinated with each of my analog sticks. The actual gameplay was suprisingly fun. It was like challenging to get the katamari to a certain size and then the fun part was rolling up everything you could find. I have to say that this is a good game. The design is simple and the gameplay is solid. It's the kind of game you want to play when you just don't want to think too much about anything.Fri, 23 Feb 2007 14:25:25 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1423&iddiary=3005Red Steel (Wii) - Fri, 09 Feb 2007 08:24:18https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1227So I played the game some more and I still didn't like it. What gets me about the game is that the movement isn't fluid. The camera movement just really kills the game. I was able to get through the game by playing a little more safely. It kind of takes the fun out of it though. When I play a shooter, I just want to run around and kill everything that moves. I finally got the katana in the game. There was a little tutorial thing. It did its part. Another misconception about the game that I had is that the usefulness of the katana would be better implemented. It turns out that you only use the katana in little duels. Another thing is, although you can parry and dodge in the sword fights, I was able to just constantly swing the remote and slash the enemies to death without them really being able to attack me. I think that just proves how poorly designed the game is. Other than that, the only thing that can probably save this game in my eyes is the multiplayer, which I haven't tried yet. I don't really have my hopes up though.Fri, 09 Feb 2007 08:24:18 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1227&iddiary=2614Red Steel (Wii) - Fri, 09 Feb 2007 07:32:06https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1227This game had a lot of potential. It is the only FPS out on the Wii right now, so it is the first to tap into the Wii's FPS potential. I was excited about this game because I have recently been very interested in shooting games. I had the opportunity to test Resistance: Fall of Man for PS3, which I thought was a great game. I also play Gears of War to death everyday because that game is the greatest game ever made, in my opinion. (BTW, I was being a little excessive in that last statement, but GoW really is a great game.) So anyways, I was really excited about this game. I start the game. There's a little calibration mini-game thing. Nothing too exciting. When I finally got control of my character, it took me a second to realize it because the intro sequence is done with the in-game graphics. My first reaction was that the controls felt a little odd. I figured I'd just have to get used to it. After I didn't get used to it, I noticed one big difference between the Wii and other consoles. The Wii only has one analog stick. This means that I am adjusting my camera with my remote, which really sucked. I think the big misconception I had going into this game was that I thought the game might be sort of like an arcade shooter with a light gun or something. I was wrong. The Wii's controls just aren't very intuitive in this game. One thing that really irritated me was that I couldn't relax during the game. Sure that's what's supposed to make the Wii different, but like I had to keep my arm pointed at the screen or else my camera would spin around wildly. Another thing was the whole beginning of the game was kind of a tutorial, but it wasn't. They kept giving me tips on how to play, but at the same time they sent all these enemies at me and I would die. It didn't help that the tips blocked up half my screen either. Anyways, I could go on about how bad the game is, but I figure I'll save some for the next log. Needless to say, I stopped playing after I finished the first objective and repeatedly died on the next part.Fri, 09 Feb 2007 07:32:06 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1227&iddiary=2610Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 17:19:12https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1010Well, I played the game some more and so I became a little more familiar with the area. I realized the reason I got lost last time I played was because when there is no active mission, the S symbol on the radar stands for the save point or something. I thought it meant south. Again, I wasn't very interested while I was playing. I don't think I played the game long enough to get to the more interesting parts. Since I've played Bully, and this game is very similar, I can't help, but compare the two. Although the games are similar, one thing the Bully had that I didn't see in this game is boss battles. I mean it is pretty easy to beat up or kill anyone walking around in the streets, so some sort of boss battle where it took some sort of strategy to win would have made the game more interesting. Of course, like I said, maybe I haven't played the game long enough to get to the boss battles if this game has any.Wed, 31 Jan 2007 17:19:12 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1010&iddiary=2317Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 02:47:56https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1010I never really played any games made by Rockstar because the Grand Theft Auto series never interested me. What did interest me was Bully. I rented Bully and played it almost all the way through, so when I started playing this game it was similar. The most interesting part about this game is the amount of freedom it gives you. You can basically go anywhere and do anything you want. This same feature is what might turn off some gamers. I thought that although the game was driven by a story, it lacked guidance for the player. During my playthrough I died during one of the missions and then I was lost because when you die they bring you to the hospital. From the hospital I had no idea how to get back to wherever I was supposed to be because the city was unfamiliar to me. That experience really turned me off to the game. A simple restart of the mission or something along those lines would have really been more helpful. It probably wouldn't matter in the later stages of the game, but in the early stages it made me lose interest in the game. After that I just ended up stealing random cars and beating random people up. I know that there is a map and all, but I guess I wasn't really in the mood to use it to figure out exactly where I needed to go. Basically I'd enjoy a more linear game and this game wasn't exactly within my tastes, although I'm sure it's a good game since it is so popular. Not exactly looking forward to my next playthrough.Wed, 31 Jan 2007 02:47:56 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1010&iddiary=2171Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 15:20:48https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=712Well, on this playthrough I actually figured out the significance of the hint pretty quickly. I guess I couldn't figure out that the stone on the ground had something to do with it on my last playthrough. So after figuring that out, it was pretty easy to take care of him. I beat the next few bosses pretty easily, the hints were a lot easier for me to understand. So after beating the horse, bird, and giant bosses, I was done playing. When I was playing the game this time, the thing that annoyed me a lot about the game was the camera angle. I didn't like the forced camera angle in some areas. It kept messing up my play because I would be trying to adjust my camera while the game was auto adjusting my camera. Again I also didn't like the control I had over my character. I still found the game enjoyable overall. It was pretty interesting to find the different ways to kill each of the individual bosses. Some of the bosses felt pretty repetitive and I haven't even gone through the whole game. On the other hand, some of the bosses were really unique. For me, the game was more along the lines of a rental rather than a game I would buy to keep.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 15:20:48 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=712&iddiary=1811Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Thu, 18 Jan 2007 16:17:09https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=712... continued from previous post. When I got to the third boss, the jumping stuff was back, and it took me a couple of tries to actually get to where the colossus was. My sword showed me that one of its weakpoints was on its stomach and that there was another one on its head. The problem I had here was that I couldn't figure out how to get to the weakpoints. After a while, it began swinging its sword down on me and I figured out I could run up the sword as it was on the ground. From here I tried many times to jump to places that I thought would let me get to a weakpoint. After about twenty minutes and the game's worthless hint about the armor being brittle, I gave up. I was pretty frustrated at not being able to figure out how to beat this boss. Maybe something will come to me in my next playthrough.Thu, 18 Jan 2007 16:17:09 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=712&iddiary=1598Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Thu, 18 Jan 2007 16:16:52https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=712When I first started up the game, I wasn't really amazed by anything really. It is not the type of game I usually play, but I figured I should try to enjoy it as best as I could. The opening cutscene gave a little background story. Basically I had to kill these colossi to bring the girl back to life. The first thing I noticed as I walked out to find the first colossus was that there were no enemies or anything, so this game is all about boss battles. In order to get to the first colossus, I had to climb a cliff, requiring some patience because the jumping system isn't very great. I found it hard to direct my jump a lot because the camera angle kept adjusting itself. The first boss was just some giant. In order to kill him, I had to jump on the back of his leg, stab it until it got dropped to its knees, climb up his arm onto his back, and finally once I reached the head, I stabbed it until it died. I thought it was interesting and simple enough. The next boss didn't require me to do any jumping exercises to get to. It was some giant turtle thing. It had weak points on the soles of its feet, so I had to figure out that I had to shoot them with arrows in order for it to drop down so that I could climb on its back and do the same thing that I did to the last boss. So within about 30 mins I was able to take out the first two bosses. I figured this game was going to be pretty easy. ... continued onto next post.Thu, 18 Jan 2007 16:16:52 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=712&iddiary=1597Gears of War (360) - Fri, 12 Jan 2007 04:28:45https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=495... continued from last post. Since I play with the same people a lot, we all know the strategies certain players will use on certain maps, and we all try to counter strategize. It makes the game fun and usually leads to learning new and more effective strategies. As I've talked about in my last gamelog, a tactic I like to use is weapon camping. If there is a particularly dangerous player that I would like to get rid of, I find the weapon that that player likes to use, camp it, and kill that player rather than fighting that player out in the open where I have a chance of dying. Of course that tactic usually doesn't work more than once because then that player will start to be suspicious and check if I'm there before picking up a weapon. Since I use this tactic a lot, I guess it would be safe to categorize myself as a sneaky player. I'm not the type to openly engage the opposing team, I would much rather catch an opponent by surprise, giving me an advantage over them. Bringing this back to the team thing, I personally think it is better to have a team composed of like-minded players because that way teammates can agree better on tactics. I personally do not like to play defensively, allowing the other team to do whatever they want, while waiting for them to find us. I bring this up because during my play I was in such a team and I felt that I played worse for the sole reason that I was not able to do what I do best. Needless to say, I didn't enjoy my gaming experience as much because I was losing more than I'm used to, but Gears of War is still a great game.Fri, 12 Jan 2007 04:28:45 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=495&iddiary=1350
