hero123's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1752Defcon (PC) - Wed, 08 Apr 2015 12:25:00https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5996Defcon play through 3 was better than the rest. I am getting pretty good at this game. I find it frustrating though that I have to micro all the little planes and that the controls for shooting a nuke are so clumsy. I guess it does force me to make a conscious decision about when I am going to formally attack someone offensively rather than being entirely defensive. I have devised a general set of rules and a plan for winning. I basically try to rely on setting up a solid defense of anti air that is not too close to my borders and keep my air fields to defend my borders instead. As for the defensive, I try to make small fleets of subs to spread out over the border of my main enemy and I try to attack them as fast as possible hitting my enemies bigger cities. This is strategy is to provoke them to use silos to attack me and reveal themselves and to rake in some early points. I then launch bombers and fighters to scout out enemy radar and such and then nuke those. This general strategy has worked for me so far. some reflection: The sterile feel of the game with the wire frame neon graphics and the eerie music really set the scene for some chilling moments. My most memorable moment was when I was so immersed in the game and I would be jarred back to reality by the little pop-up after a nuke hits that says 4 million dead or something. Then the pop up disappears and I am back into the game almost like nothing happened. It makes me think of the humanity of the game and what it means to have nuclear capable countries.Wed, 08 Apr 2015 12:25:00 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5996&iddiary=10473Defcon (PC) - Tue, 07 Apr 2015 20:35:43https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5996Pay through 2 today was a bit easier to understand. I replayed some of the tutorial and then played a game against the computer. I was impressed by the game in general the strategy involved in it. here is a bit of a break down: each player starts at defcon 5 and has to wait until defcon 1 to attack. during that time, generally players set up defenses and position themselves to attack or defend. The interesting exchange takes place when defcon 1 hits. a player may decide to launch everything at the enemy which in turn exposes their own silos. or they can wait and when the enemy is out of nukes, then the they can retaliate and score more points by destroying all enemy silos AND bombing all the major cities. This means that a player needs to have a balance between positioning their ships and planes for scouting, firing missiles at the right time and trying not to over extend but capitalize on every opportunity. I did realize that the score goes up when you kill any enemies including non-military targets. This means that if you are behind, of course taking out silos is good, but bombing major cites can also help. I am not sure about how I feel about that. I find that when I have handily beat my opponent, A victory timer starts and I try to raise my score even higher before it runs out. I do this by trying to kill as many people as possible. I do this by dropping nukes on the most populated cities. and try not to waste nukes on places that I have already decimated. I know it sounds bad...but it feels natural in the game.Tue, 07 Apr 2015 20:35:43 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5996&iddiary=10464Defcon (PC) - Mon, 06 Apr 2015 18:19:23https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5996Well my first play session of defcon has me still feeling a bit confused by the gameplay. I played through the tutorial but I am still kinda lost. I think that the general idea is pretty cool though and I will need to spend a bit more time playing it to figure out why its fun and what it is all about. I generally like this type of game as it is heavy on the strategy. So far the ideas of recon, anti air missiles, nukes, fleets and subs are pretty cool and I am looking forward to getting into some multiplayer with it soon. I was a bit surprised in the tutorial in mission 6 i think.... where you attack in the pacific ocean. I rolled up on and bombed Japan. At first I was indifferent and then I noticed that 4 million people died in my attack. After that I stated to realize how cold this game was. The aesthetic and everything could have been very different but i think that the computer feel is deliberate to make the player feel like a machine....Mon, 06 Apr 2015 18:19:23 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5996&iddiary=10458The Walking Dead: Season Two (PC) - Tue, 24 Feb 2015 17:44:20https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5973Well I finished the game. I must say it was a pretty crappy situation to end the game in. I felt like nothing was really resolved. The ending I got was pretty good though. I ended up killing Kenny and saving Jane and AJ. We headed back to Carvers place and met a family of 3 and joined up with them. I am pretty upset that jane would resort to something as insane as what she did and carry it out to its conclusion rather than making a political or mature choice which would be to discuss the craziness of kenny in a direct way. I felt like joining with the family at the end was an important choice for me because it shows that while I am a survivor like Jane, I am not as cold and calculating as her.Tue, 24 Feb 2015 17:44:20 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5973&iddiary=10423The Walking Dead: Season Two (PC) - Mon, 23 Feb 2015 10:24:17https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5973Wow, I just deleted my 2nd post somehow before submitting it. That sucks....now to rewrite it... So I have had a great time with this second play session. I went through a bunch of episodes. The main selling factor for me is it is like I am watching a movie. I really like the story, even though sometimes it feels a bit forced or whatever. I am glad that this game stays true to the Walking Dead series that I know and enjoy in that it is one of the only zombie franchises that I can get behind. I think that the main reason for this is that the story uses zombies as a means to tell a compelling story about human nature. It is totally hitting the nail on the head with this game. So I do have some complaints. I felt that there were 2 characters who I cannot stand, but luckily the game killed them. First is carver. I don't mind that he is a jerk so much as the fact that he is an over the top kind of jerk. It is annoying when a story has an over the top villain that is unbelievable and unquestionably bad. I felt like whenever I had situations that included carver, it forced my decisions and my opinion about him rather than making his side of the story more compelling and letting me decide on my own. I actually tired to get on his good side and suck up to him and just got slapped for it. The other annoying character who died was Sarah. She annoyed me because I just felt like she could have been a much better character but it just never happened. I spent the entire game taking care of her and doing everything I could to save her life. If she would have confided in clementine and shown why she was so weak or tried to connect more somehow, It would have meant much more when I couldn't protect her and could have been a big emotional event. Instead, it was a relief that I don't have to drag around dead weight anymore. In my next play session, I will have to pay the piper for stealing meds from Alvaro. This should be fun!Mon, 23 Feb 2015 10:24:17 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5973&iddiary=10417The Walking Dead: Season Two (PC) - Mon, 16 Feb 2015 13:28:43https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5973This was my first experience with a telltale game. I guess i should have tried season 1 as well but i didnt. Anyways, I played the first two episodes and so far I am loving this game. It is a nice game for times when I just want to hear a story rather than the stress i feel when I play a game like Dota or CoD. I really like the story choices so far. I think that it is neat that you can see what other people choose too. The first big choice I made was to save Nicks life over his uncles life. The main reason I did so was because it look like the uncle got bit so i didn't want to just see him die. It is a bit crazy though because now I wonder if the uncle was still alive, would walter still be alive? or max? It makes me want to play through again and pick different choices. looks like in the third episode that I get brought to a compound run by...i forgot his name. but ya, this should be an interesting change of pace.Mon, 16 Feb 2015 13:28:43 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5973&iddiary=10413This war of mine (PC) - Tue, 27 Jan 2015 20:49:19https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5940So in my third play session, I had a great time and learned a few things. First off, I started a liquor factory and was making some pretty decent amounts of beer for selling. All in all I think that making the beer as fast as possible is a great strategy. By doing so you can clean out the guys who com and trade by selling the beer at an insane price. We also picked up a 4th character named boris. He is super good for scavenging because he can carry more than anyone. unfortunately, He just died to a bunch of bandits and now iron is depressed. I wish i would have been more careful but it seemed like if i didn't get some food, than my characters would suffer and die anyway... In an interesting turn of events, I found myself being hardened by the constant theme of the game of how terrible war is. Instead of being worried about the old people whom i am raiding, I started thinking things like, they don't need this much food and medicine. Seems pretty messed up that i would start acting like that, but maybe thats part of war that the designers intended to portray. To be honest, I am a bit frustrated right now and want to start over. poor boris...Tue, 27 Jan 2015 20:49:19 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5940&iddiary=10385This war of mine (PC) - Sat, 24 Jan 2015 22:03:18https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5940For my second play through I actually had to restart from the beginning and play on a different computer. It seemed like I was able to be more effective the second time around and get to roughly the same point in the game in less time. One moment that really stood out to me was when I went to scavenge I came across a guy who was taking care of his sick parents. I was hiding from him and waiting for him to leave the room as I watched his situation unfold and how he felt powerless against the forces of the war but trapped by duty to take care of his parents. after he left the room I snuck in and raided his supplies, taking a lot of very valuable food. At first I didn't realize that I was raiding his supplies(as it was a new icon) but rather just taking supplies from a random drop spot like all the other supplies up to that point. However, the game let me know I was stealing by clearly stating it after i had already started as well as after I stole the stuff, He tried to kill me. Anyways, So I stole all their food and it was actually pretty good food. Canned food and vegetables! the only thing was that my character after returning home showed remorse for the action asking if what he did was wrong. The dialog of the character as well as the "sad" trait on my character was surprisingly moving. After a while my character went back to normal and it was all good but that kinda sucked. On the other hand I got a chance to do good as 2 kids came by asking for medicine for their sick mom which i readily gave them. hopefully i can reverse some of my digital kharma with that act.Sat, 24 Jan 2015 22:03:18 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5940&iddiary=10374This war of mine (PC) - Fri, 23 Jan 2015 11:37:16https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5940Well i just started the game and I so far I am enjoying it. The feeling is a bit dark due to the aesthetic but I understand what they are going for. I thought that the funnest part is building up your house to provide comfort for the characters that you control. I do think it is an interesting ethical dilemma that in order to get what I need, I must steal from others essentially. I anticipate the need for weapons in the near future to defend against intruders and perhaps to loot more effectively. So far I have created a rotation of scavenging, sleeping and guarding that seems to be working out well. I was also able to nurse my sick team member back to health. I have built 2 beds and a bunch of workstations to built metal objects and other things. I am saving up now for a furnace and then a place to make moonshine. my primary purpose for making moonshine will be to barter with. For scavenging , I found it is very useful to only have a shovel and a set of lock picks to maximize the amount of good loot that you can snag. Taking anything else seems unnecessary. I really want to increase the amount of things I can carry, though I am unsure about how to do that right now. I look forward to more of the drama of the game to unfold as It has me very interested in the characters right now. I am mainly interested in them because I have spent so much time trying to make them comfortable.Fri, 23 Jan 2015 11:37:16 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5940&iddiary=10371
