Spades is a game of luck and strategy. Spades uses a deck of cards, but does not include the 2 of clubs and 2 of diamonds. This is the version of Spades that me and my friends played is called joker deuce deuce. The game has two teams of two players. The player sitting across from you is your teammate, and the objective is for your team to win more books (rounds) than the other team. Each player gets 13 cards to play. Each player must place one card per round. The player placing the highest card, win those set of cards for his or her team, but you can only place the type of card that place at the beginning of the round. For example, if the round begins with a 3 of clubs, everyone else must place a club, but if you do not have a club in your hand you may throw an spade. If you do not have a spade, you must throw down any card. Jokers and the 2 of spades and 2 of hearts are the highest value cards after aces and kings. In my opinion the overall turn by turn game play makes it simple and extremely fun to play. The rules are simple as well. Each player can only do one action, draw a card, but the rules of the game makes that simple action difficult because you will have to use strategies for when to pull certain cards out of your hand if you are planning to win the overall game. My first game playing Spades with friends, my hand consist of Ace of clubs, king and Ace of spades, 5 of clubs, 5, 6, 8 of hearts, 4,8,7 of spades, 10, Jack and king of diamonds. This game I had a some what decent hand, because just before even playing can say I won at least 4 rounds. I say won 4 rounds, because if I can get my Ace of clubs early and get my King of diamonds out after the Ace of diamonds and my Jack of diamonds after the queen and to me the Ace of spades is automatic round win, if one of my friends doesn't throw a Joker or a deuce card when I throw my ace of spades. During the game, I notice I was focusing mostly two things. What card was thrown first and what cards has already been played. After round after round , me and my teammate end up winning mainly because my teammate had the jokers and we did not cut each other out of any cards (when you and your teammate clash with two high cards) at the end of the game because I only had low spades at the end. The second time I played Spades, my hand was not all as great as the last game. It can be said that is the luck part of the game or that my friend someone how new how give all the good cards to her and her teammate. My cards this time mostly consist of low red cards some face cards and a few low spades. Since this time I had alot of red cards I knew my strategy will have to somehow get rid of my few black cards so I can try and when a few rounds from the low spades I had. This game me and my teammate lost, even though my teammate had most of the aces. Overall I found spades to exciting and fun. Even though spades is a simple card game with a lot of luck needed, you play out even the saddest of hand with some well thought out strategies. This aspect of spades keeps me playing game after game. (This entry has been edited1 time.
