hcasey1's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1836Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor (PC) - Sat, 08 Apr 2017 19:44:25https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6372One thing I forgot to mention in my other entries is that there is a pretty cool leveling up system like there is in a lot of other games. You can also unlock portions of the open world map and then fast travel to places. When you go around around the map and kill enemies that have slaves, you are able to free the slaves and they thank you and what not. You also have to worry about larger beasts that try to attack you when they see you. The pretty cool thing about that is that you are able to basically posses them and then ride them around. While you are riding them around you can attack enemies pretty easily with them. Another small mission that I came across is the mission in which you make a deal with an orc that is captive. You go into his brain with the character's weird powers and it takes you to the war chief ranking page thing. Then you free him and he helps you by leading you to the enemy you want to kill. He is a creepy little thing. His name is Ratbag. How charming.Sat, 08 Apr 2017 19:44:25 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6372&iddiary=11151Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor (PC) - Fri, 07 Apr 2017 18:34:42https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6372Well, I have finally met Gollum, my absolute favorite character on all Lord of the Rings characters! He is a creepy little dude and I had to follow him around into a cave even though he didn't want me to. I didn't know he was going to be, but I really like that he is in this game. The game has a pretty cool mechanic that is used to follow Gollum. It is like this other worldly sense that the main character acquired at the beginning of the game when all the crazy stuff went down. When playing, you are able to use this sense to see Gollum's foot prints so you can find him after he runs away from you. He then leads you into this cave where there are more enemies to fight while you search for him. After I completed that mission and learned what I needed to learn from Gollum, I did some more of the side quest type things where you basically are liberating outposts similarly to the Far Cry games. Though, I still think that the Far Cry games made the outposts tie into to story of the game much more smoothly. With that said, I still enjoy these side missions.Fri, 07 Apr 2017 18:34:42 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6372&iddiary=11148Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor (PC) - Thu, 06 Apr 2017 14:31:48https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6372Normally I don't get too into these types of games, but Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is pretty cool! The things that I found interesting about it were the ranking system of the enemies and the way they move around on the virtual board. You see it when you die, and each time you die, the enemy that killed you gets a stat boost. What I learned is to not take on the hardest enemy first because you will die over and over again while that difficult enemy just keeps getting more and more difficult. It's funny, the enemies recognize you each time to go back to try and kill them after they have killed you, as well. The other things that I really like about the game is the stealth and the combat system. I have always been a huge fan of stealth in games. The death animations are pretty cool, too. One thing I've noticed about the game that I wasn't super keen on is that the enemies roaming in the open world feel distant from the actual storyline. Maybe they will start to tie in a little better as I progress in the story.Thu, 06 Apr 2017 14:31:48 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6372&iddiary=11125The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PC) - Sat, 25 Feb 2017 13:56:42https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6327After going back to the guy to let him know that I killed the griffin, he revealed where Yennefer went and it wasn't very far away. She turned up sooner than expected, though. This was after I had to ride away with the griffin head still tied on the Roach, and that is probably quite smelly. We also killed some guy in a bar, so that was fun. Everyone was very frighted. The guy that wanted the griffin killed offered some money. I'm wondering what sort of things happen when you take or don't take money that is offered to you. I also wonder if it matters who is offering the money. If I had to guess, I would assume that taking money from poor people would have negative effects later on, but taking money from rich people wouldn't be so bad. I guess I'll find out. Some poor guy got whipped pretty hard for delivering moldy grains, so that was a little sad. People were so mean back in that time!Sat, 25 Feb 2017 13:56:42 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6327&iddiary=11048The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PC) - Thu, 23 Feb 2017 13:48:01https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6327Well, I slew a griffin. It was a pretty fun experience, but I did feel a little bad for it. If only humans and griffins could live in peace with one another. The combat system made killing it fun because of all the dodging needed to beat it. The crossbow is pretty cool, too. I thought it was a little weird that there was kind of two different scenes with the griffin - the first one being really short and a little pointless, it seemed. To me, it felt like the scene switch a slightly unfortunate interruption that was a little distracting to the action. Perhaps this is an ignorant opinion for some reason that I am overlooking, though. Another thing that is worth mentioning is all of those strange swamp creatures that kind of come out of nowhere to attack you. They a both a little annoying and kind of cool at the same time. I look forward to seeing what is up with those things. I hope they have a little community or something somewhere. I'm impressed with the amount of strange, violent creatures in the world of The Witcher.Thu, 23 Feb 2017 13:48:01 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6327&iddiary=11028The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PC) - Wed, 22 Feb 2017 12:01:20https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6327Right before The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released a friend of mine was already raving about how good it was going to be and how large the open world was going to be and how great it was going to look, which made me interested in playing it. I was building a computer for the first time and my graphics card came with a Witcher 3 code. I doubt I would have ever played it if I had not gotten it for free, but after starting it, I'm glad I have it. It took me a while to start it since I had other games I wanted to play, and RPGs usually are my first pick. l think the game is pretty cool. I like the ethics system in it, though I haven't gotten far enough into the game to really understand it. The character models look really nice, but I'm not too impressed with the environment. I don't know why I'm bothered so much by ugly grass, but I am. Don't get me wrong, the low res grass isn't keeping me from enjoying the game. What I like most about the game is the combat system. It's different from any other game I have played, and I find it to be much more immersive since there is a larger variety of attacks to do. I'm excited to progress further into the story.Wed, 22 Feb 2017 12:01:20 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6327&iddiary=11003The Last of Us Remastered (PS4) - Wed, 25 Jan 2017 17:19:55https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6262Continuing on in The Last of Us, the smuggling of the child has gotten a little messy. Obviously, if you are reading this game log entry, you aren't worried about spoilers, so I won't worry about keeping it vague. As the main characters were progressing though, the realize that the girl being smuggled had been infected with the zombie virus, but had not turned into a zombie. At this point, they questioned going through with the smuggling. They were asked to smuggle her to a lab or something (I haven't gotten there, yet) so that her blood could be tested - they think she holds the cure. They get noticed by the authorities while sneaking out, and they have to stealthily advance through the level. They also have to use stealth to get around zombies once they have made it into the city. It's actually a pretty fun game!Wed, 25 Jan 2017 17:19:55 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6262&iddiary=10920The Last of Us Remastered (PS4) - Tue, 24 Jan 2017 14:31:18https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6236Continuing on in The Last of Us, I find the dichotomy between the non-zombie people interesting. The is a very prominent hierarchy. There is what seems to be the government attempting to control and contain all that are not infected, while the zombies run ramped outside of this safe zone. There is also a hierarchy among the people being contained within this area. It is like a weird little refuge that you might hear about in a third-world country, except there are zombies. It has had over a decade to establish itself. Within the contained area, people seem to be trading and forming small alliances, as people do. They trade resources like ration cards (to be handed in for food) and guns. Currently there is a dilemma about an agreement the main characters are about to make (whether or not to smuggle a child out of the area in return for the guns that were stolen from them, then sold to the person that is asking them to smuggle said child). It will be interesting to see where the story goes from here.Tue, 24 Jan 2017 14:31:18 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6236&iddiary=10912The Last of Us Remastered (PS4) - Thu, 19 Jan 2017 14:38:09https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6236Playing the remastered version of The Last of Us is something I had been interested in doing for a while, but had not gotten around to it. It is not the kind of game I usually play, and I am quite slow in branching out. Zombie games have never had much appeal to me because, since they began to domineer pop culture in the late 00's and early 10's, everyone has some sort of generic Zombie story to sell. Since so many rave about The Last of Us, I gave it a try. It's a cinematic game, which I don't usually play, but so far I am enjoying the fluidity between gameplay and cutscenes. This aspect allows the player to feel more consumed into the experience, which I later realized helped me to reflect upon the moral and ethical elements of the game. This is where I actually enjoy "zombie culture." So far, the story seems to be following a pretty basic zombie storyline, but it also looks like it might evolve into something more then that. The basics of the zombie storyline involves a surprise plague that grips a large sum of humanity, and shocks the remainder by turning their friends, neighbors, and loved ones against them, offering up the ethical dilemma: is it ethical to bash their mushy brains in? "zombie culture" says yes, but I say; not so fast, asshole. When I argue this point, I am not arguing the selfdefense aspect. I am arguing against the idea of "putting them out of their misery" aspect, or perhaps the extermination of these individuals. The Last of Us offered up this dilemma multiple times in just the first hour and a half of the game. As a culture, we seem to have been somewhat desensitized to this, but it is a crucial part in every zombie story. But how do we deal with a mass infection such as the zombie infection? We do not have the capacity to treat everyone that has been infected, and their violent tendencies make it all the more difficult. Do we allow them to roam freely, risking more violent behavior? Can we keep them from doing so without technically infringing on their rights as a human - even if we don't see them as human? When they have killed, are we justified in killing them, or are they entitled to a fair trial? If they were to get this very hypothetical fair trial (the one that we would not have the capacity for), will they be considered to mentally inhibited to stand trial? These are all questions we should be asking ourselves while experiencing a zombie story.Thu, 19 Jan 2017 14:38:09 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6236&iddiary=10861
