JordanLindorff's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1837Life is Strange (PC) - Fri, 07 Apr 2017 00:42:41https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6360Today I played my third session of Life is Strange, and it was much more interesting and tense than yesterday's session. I actually enjoyed this session. I found the interplay between the characters a lot more interesting, and I also liked the idea that you have a relationship with the girl you saved. I also liked that they introduced us to her, by reintroducing her to the character. I also liked that they tied in the missing person posters that have been everywhere. Another thing I found interesting is the little hints that they give you throughout the dialogue. Little things like Chloe's step-dad has a surveillance fetish. I feel that this will play a role in the story in the future. I ended the session today by entering another nightmare sequence. I'm not sure what they mean, but I do find it intriguing. Overall good session today.Fri, 07 Apr 2017 00:42:41 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6360&iddiary=11137Life is Strange (PC) - Thu, 06 Apr 2017 00:38:46https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6360So today I played Life is Strange again. I picked up where I left off, just getting outside after talking to the principal. I got introduced to the text messages that I can receive. I also read the new pages in the journal. After that I had a simple task of getting my flash drive from my room and taking it to my friend. The first obstacle was getting into the dorm, which required me spilling paint on Victoria. The next obstacle was getting the flash drive from Dana. After that Dana was locked in her room so I had to sneak into Victoria's room so that I could make Juliet see reason and let Dana out. After that I finally go the flash drive and had to then take it to the parking lot. On the way to the parking lot there were two more incidents that required my attention. The first was helping a girl not get hit by a football, the next was helping Kate with the security guy. After that I finally made it to the parking lot where I was confronted by Prescott and I had to escape in a truck. Overall I felt the story was super boring. Their wasn't too much content other than some tropes about social media. Didn't enjoy today's session.Thu, 06 Apr 2017 00:38:46 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6360&iddiary=11123Life is Strange (PC) - Tue, 04 Apr 2017 18:31:13https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6360Today I started playing "Life is Strange." I had no previous experience with the game, and therefore had no expectations and biases. I at first found the game rather boring, but after I got out of the class for the first time, I found that it almost perfectly expresses what it is like to be a student in school. When she put her headphones in and the music came on and covered the everyday sounds, I was like wow this is so real to life. My interest was peaked when the gun scene played out in the bathroom and I was like ok so I will have to figure out a way to not be blamed for this crime. Then time rewound and I was like ah ok, now I think I understand how the game will be. It was interesting to see a game based on choices where you can rewind time and change your choices. I look forward to playing again tomorrow and seeing where the story goes. Overall I found today's play session intriguing.Tue, 04 Apr 2017 18:31:13 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6360&iddiary=11094Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor (PC) - Sat, 25 Feb 2017 12:46:57https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6329Today I played some more of Shadow of Mordor. In this session I started by simply finding the nearest mission to me and doing it. It was a simple mission and I simply had to kill a captain. The entire game is based around the prejudices of man against orc and vice versa. The orcs while violent do appear to have reasoning and their own culture. While that culture is based on violence, that doesn't mean that it is inherently evil. There is too black and white of a view in this world. Everything seems to be either good or evil. While you could argue that that is the characters perspective, I think that it would be worth wild to have some characters that conflict with this perception. I think the game is very fun overall and I'm excited to continue playing it and see what the ending is. It is interesting to see all the complexities of the orc culture and to see their interactions. It seems that while their "government" should be unstable it is actually very stable due to a clear path to the top and only the strongest and smartest are their leaders. It would be interesting to find a real world comparison to this culture. The game causes me to reflect on our culture and how in a similar way we value strength and power. It would be interesting to make that comparison in a paper.Sat, 25 Feb 2017 12:46:57 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6329&iddiary=11047Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor (PC) - Thu, 23 Feb 2017 20:30:49https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6329So for today's play through I started by going to a mission that was on the edge of the map. I had to go in to a cave and kill several of these zombie like orcs and their mother. Unfortunately I died, which made my enemies stronger. Every time that I died in the game the enemies grew stronger. An interesting thing to not is that they remember you and some of them even come back from the dead and they have new scars from our last battle. It is interesting how they remember you or they remember killing you, and they have dialogue to support it. Another interesting thing that I learned in todays play through is that you can avenge your friends' deaths by killing the captain that has killed them. This leads to an interesting social dynamic where even in a single player game you get to interact with your friends. It also leads to a great feeling of us versus the enemy computer. I found that this made the game more enjoyable. When I came back to life I went and did a story mission in the which I found an artifact that gave my character the information of who the elf is that is possessing me. After that I went around avenging my friends deaths and killed captains. After some time I ended up dying to a captain that wanted revenge. When I came back this time I followed the main story quest line and killed one of the war chiefs. This once again allowed ratbag to advance up the ranks and become the new war chief. I find all the interplay between the orcs fascinating as it is completely based on being the best and being the strongest. They have a very Darwinian attitude of survival of the fittest. Once again I was unable to stop at the 30 minute mark as it was just so much fun to play. It is very exciting when you see former foes come back, and even more so when they become your rivals or nemeses. I can't wait to play again tomorrow.Thu, 23 Feb 2017 20:30:49 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6329&iddiary=11031Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor (PC) - Wed, 22 Feb 2017 22:29:27https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6329So today I picked up in the game where I had left off about a year ago. I first just roamed around the map to get used to the controls again. After about 10 minutes of that I started doing some missions. The first mission I did was fairly easy it was jump on a creatures back and then ride around shooting bad guys with my bow. The next one was to confront and enemy captain at a duel. It's interesting because when I went the captain I was supposed to face almost was beaten and so I finished him off and as I was doing that my rival showed up and so I had to kill two captains and while that was happening a third captain showed up. I made good use of my bow to kill them all. Then the last mission I did revealed intel on one of the war chiefs. These are some of the bigger bosses in the game. I then stopped for today and will pick it up tomorrow. It is interesting how the developers incorporated some ethical frameworks and prejudices into the game. The Orcs are very self centered and do whatever is best for them. At the end of the last mission my character uttered Orcs in a derogatory tone like they are stupid, after the orc character that I saved used his knowledge of orc culture to set up a way for me to kill one of the war chiefs. Overall it was a very fun experience.Wed, 22 Feb 2017 22:29:27 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6329&iddiary=11011The Wolf Among Us (iPd) - Sat, 21 Jan 2017 16:12:14https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6240Today in “The Wolf Among Us” I had to see the consequences of my actions yesterday and the day before. I had to see Toad get sent to the farm, even though on my “good guy” day I told him I would stop that from happening. I also had to lie to him when he asked about my friend the pig, and why he didn’t have to go to the farm. It was interesting how I felt embarrassed about the nepotism in the game. I think it just goes to show that if a game is done correctly they can pull many different kinds of embarrassment and they also cause us to connect with the characters we play. I think that in this instance I felt embarrassed because I have dealt in a similar fashion with nepotism in the real world. I also then finished the episode and the game by talking to Narrissa. She basically confesses that she sold out her friends, but after the conversation is over Bigby the Character starts putting together that maybe she isn’t who she says she is. This little tweak at the ending was able to pull more emotion from me in the form of curiosity, I wanted to know who she really is, and also to know if I was right. Overall I felt that the experience was very visceral and fun. I would love to see more episodes for this game.Sat, 21 Jan 2017 16:12:14 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6240&iddiary=10897The Wolf Among Us (iPd) - Fri, 20 Jan 2017 22:44:07https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6240Today I continued Episode 5 of “The Wolf Among Us” and I had to fight bloody Mary. There wasn’t much choice before the fight and the fight ended her life. After the battle I was able to continue on with my plan of not following any moral frameworks and just playing super selfishly. I selected every choice that was self-serving. I also chose any negative actions such as killing the Crooked Man. It was interesting to note that even though I murdered him rather than bringing him in for trial most of the people were ok with it or agree that it was ok this once. With the exception of a few most seemed fine with my actions even though they were brazenly immoral. I thought it was interesting that they reacted this way and I am curious about how they would have reacted if I hadn’t killed him. Overall I enjoyed this session, and although it was going against my natural tendencies it was interesting how thrilling it was to be renegade.Fri, 20 Jan 2017 22:44:07 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6240&iddiary=10891The Wolf Among Us (iPd) - Thu, 19 Jan 2017 20:49:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6240Today when I played “The Wolf Among Us” I tried to approach it following some of the moral frameworks we talked about in class mostly Wheaton’s Law, and the Golden Rule. I started by playing with the end of episode 4 and started episode 5. At the end of 4 I had to talk to Toad and I was supposed to send him to the farm, or at least that is what white wanted. I choose instead to follow the golden rule and I gave him another chance and didn’t send him away. I then at the beginning of Episode 5 was confronted by the crooked man and his goons. I had no choice but to fight and then I had the opportunity to kill or at least severally hurt the Jersey Devil. I choose instead to not harm him. After that I had to chase down Georgie and I listened to his story as well as the girl that was with him. I choose not to interrupt their conversation, as well as not to kill the girl. After that she killed herself, and then Georgie told me what I wanted to know and I ended his suffering. That was where I stopped at the end of my play session. Essentially I tried to be the good guy whenever I could. I tried to follow the moral frameworks, and for the most part it worked out pretty good. I think tomorrow I am going to play in the opposite fashion being a dick to everyone, and doing everything in a selfish way. Overall I enjoyed the experience, I think because the way I was acting is in line with my own morals.Thu, 19 Jan 2017 20:49:51 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6240&iddiary=10864
