ABenedic's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=192Bust-A-Move (N64) - Fri, 09 Feb 2007 16:02:00https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1250Level 71 was hard. some of the game mechanics that aren't so apparent at the beginning of the game are: the player has ten seconds to make each individual shot, if that time elapses then the ball launches in the current direction that the pointer is pointing. every 10 or so shots that the player makes, the top of the play area descends by one tile, and after a while, it becomes difficult to make any good shots. also, the background image changes every couple of levels. the catchy music however, does not change, and I found that winamp quickly provides an alternative music choice that I can enjoy.Fri, 09 Feb 2007 16:02:00 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1250&iddiary=2684Bust-A-Move (N64) - Fri, 09 Feb 2007 15:44:35https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1250I started playing this game last week. the controls for this game are extemely simple. the right and left buttons control the movement of the pointer, and the buttons fire the readied ball in the direction that the pointer is pointing. I was easily able to get past the first ten levels without lossing a single continue. the music in this game (as well as the game it was spun-off of, Bubble Bobble) is excellent, it has a super catchy tune, and I find myself humming it when it gets stuck in my head. more to come later...Fri, 09 Feb 2007 15:44:35 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1250&iddiary=2681Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 18:49:56https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=851I played against my friend six more matches going 4 and 2. He is a very excellent player, which can make the game play experience better by a factor of ten. I like playing really hard opponents as often as I can, because I have the ability to adapt my play style to achieve victory over my opponent, and at the same time devising new strategies that i can use on any opponent. For example, I learned a long time ago how to use kirby's abilities to commit suicide and get a kill at the same time, which can be a useful tactic against an opponent I am much better than. It means you had to sacrifice a life, when you could have opted not to, but in my opinion, it's more interesting to play and watch, when a player plays with flair instead of just grinding. I always try to play with flair, even if it means sacrificing utility.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 18:49:56 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=851&iddiary=1886Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 18:42:12https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=851When I started playing this game for the second assignment, I figured i'd play single player mode until my time was up, but I beat the final boss on very hard difficulty within only 20 or so mins. So I asked my friend Yo (yes that's his real name) to play against me. I used Captain Falcon against him, and he was Fox. We played a time match for 30 mins. I don't think there is a "best character" in smash bros, for the 64. I am good with almost every character, and will take on any challengers, any time. This game is fun to play because there is an almost endless amount of decisions a player can make, so long as there is a challenging human opponent. I would very much like to play other human opponents, that i am not used to.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 18:42:12 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=851&iddiary=1880Civilization IV (PC) - Fri, 12 Jan 2007 16:16:36https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=615After playing the game for a number of hours (beacause i enjoyed playing and was slightly addicted) i discovered a number of new strategies, underlying complexities, and additional features i was previously unaware of in my initial playthrough. as a game of emergence, gameplay focuses, for me at least, at the beggining, on discovering new strategies, and devising new ways to achieve the nummerous victory conditions. one thing that i might consider doing, though it would take a lot of time, would be to achieve victory using each victory condition, and see which one i have the most fun playing. so in my initial victory, i would rate the fun-ness of gameplay as a 8 out of 10. the tactic i used (to achieve the victory condition of building a spaceship capable of reaching Alpha Centauri) was to maximize population growth in early game, collect many resources, ally with all factions, then focus on researching new technologies to out gun possible enemies and building the spaceship.Fri, 12 Jan 2007 16:16:36 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=615&iddiary=1429Civilization IV (PC) - Fri, 12 Jan 2007 15:25:02https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=615Started playing because this is a popular series and I'd played very little of it before. Turns out however, that the game is very similar to Alpha Centauri, a game released by the same design team, Firaxis Games. Whereas Alpha Centauri is set in the future, Civilization IV is a historical game where you research technologies, battle rival civilizations, and improve your own. It took me a while to get used to the controls, there are a few new features that I wasn't used to, and some features, common to other strategy games, that were not present. Realizing that Civ 4 was so similar to Alpha Centauri, I was both disappointed and intrigued. Disappointed because I've already played through this genre and have become bored with it, but I was intrigued because as the new installment of the Civ series, it has a massive amount of new features, such as government civics, which allow you to choose between options for your civilization. For example, you can choose to have a civilization with a monarchy or democracy.Fri, 12 Jan 2007 15:25:02 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=615&iddiary=1423
