Sego001!'s GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1927Firewatch (PC) - Sat, 31 Mar 2018 05:58:52https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6670Soooooooo I had an adventure and dropped my laptop out of my car so it has been in repair the past two days and subsequently I didn't even think about my last post for my gamelog but here we are. Things got... dark. I finally had the first big wild fire on my hands which seemed semi back ground noise to the other dialogues going on in the game. But everything felt, Very uncomfortable? There were weird gaps in the story that didn't seem to fit together as they should and things seemed off. I got the sense that I was being watch both but all of the strange happenings and I discovered a written transcription of the conversations I had been having with Delilah. Overall this game was challenging mentally, It left me with an unsettled feeling and I did find myself as a student struggling to make connections to any ethics theories with the game as a collective whole. I will probably play a few more independent sessions before writing my paper so I can get a better flavour of what was going on maybe if it is just to settle some of my uneasiness. (completely irrelevant but I do want to comment on how visually appealing this game was to me and I think it is interesting that there was a gradual shift from my first game session to this calm comforting presence of a game to something that just felt very ominous)Sat, 31 Mar 2018 05:58:52 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6670&iddiary=11830Firewatch (PC) - Thu, 29 Mar 2018 12:00:59https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6670I just realized that I never submitted my gamelog last night even though I typed it! Im not the best multi tasker lol. Anyways. I played last night for probably an hour and things are starting to get strange. Some of the multiple story plots being told are lining up very well. There are instance where what is actually happening and what my character think is happening are different. The whole thing feels really mmm frightening to me. I cleared a bunch of teenagers campsite because it was a fire risk and they were really angry with me the way teens are when you poke at their stuff. And im starting to get real personal with a girl named delilah (mind you its just com over the radio) which is entertaining to me as a player because the actually mechanics are pretty limited its really just story telling but, it does also make me kind of uncomfortable as a player that he (main character) between his wife and this other woman. Over all my session was fun but I dont think I made a lot of head way for gathering material to write about. I will probably play for 2 or 3 hours tonight after school/work and see where that puts me. It was so calm and I really appreciated the ease of accessibility it had for someone with no developed game mechanics to play video games. The theme was pretty minimalist which I thought was interesting although I will have to play further to really decided how I feel about it or what it is trying to communicate to the consumer. I was also pretty surprised with just how dark this game started off? It laid some heavy weights down from almost the second you start which really makes me wonder how it will impact the story later down the road (like will my player do something sh*tty but the game has already built in so much empathy that Ill excuse it? What does that say about my moral holdings? I dont know lots to consider while I play it). Overall I was pretty sparse with my play only spending about 45 minutes with the game and a lot of that was spent mentally unpacking the theme and the suuuuuper dark back story while answering the prompted questions.Wed, 28 Mar 2018 00:15:48 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6670&iddiary=11763Yakuza 0 (PS4) - Thu, 15 Feb 2018 01:46:41https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6588I face desk this cite. /////once again it seems as though my post has evaproated into the ether//// So take two ...again. So today I got through the rest of chapter one, (I didn't end up going back yesterday night and playing more) and lightly touched chapter 2. Mostly I did a lot of exploring now that I had been released from tutorial hell. Let me just say. Man. Man does this game have a weird blend of some terribly heavy things and humor mixed. As well as some really morally compromised plots and side stories. There was an incident that made my skin crawl with some minors being bullied into sex work that was really awful and interesting to see how I handled it as a character. I wish my other post had saved because I talked about it quite a lot. I think it really played into also the "protector" complex that some adolescents in gangs seems to be so susceptible to. A real reflection of nature vs. nurture as well in as far as how individuals seem to deal with conflict. To the group in this game violence is both a show of comadery and love as well as a display of authority and protection. I didn't really progress in actual plot of the game more wanted to analyze the mechanics a little further since this console and style of game was really foreign to me. I don't think it was the most easily accessible for beginning players but I think game accessibility is a whole separate issue that I will perhaps reserve for next OPAThu, 15 Feb 2018 01:46:41 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6588&iddiary=11671Yakuza 0 (PS4) - Wed, 14 Feb 2018 03:06:59https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6588Todays log was a challenge it was 1 am and I was tired but I wanted to space my play out enough to get an accurate feel and reflect in between sessions so I sucked it up....and still am meh but eh is improving. I am almost finished with Chapter one. might return to it after I make myself some dinner and just finish it. anyways, game play. So I maintain there are still an exuberant amount of cut scenes in this game but they are getting better and more complex, there is also starting to be a really interesting dichotomy between humor and some really brutal violence. Like I was finally semi released to play the character sans tutorial mode and there was this karaoke (le cringe) mini game that you can play that is pretty humorous but it immediately flips to a pretty intense cut scene that lets you know a dude you mugged died and that you my friend are royally screwed. You gotta go talk to the boss and the boss for sure is gonna be pissed. Kiryu is steadily developing to be a really complex character and they are setting up pretty nicely the family bonds type setting that is a main reason gangs trap so many young people. Hopefully for tomorrow in chapter two Ill have some more autonomy to really feel out the game but feel better about it than last session. Wed, 14 Feb 2018 03:06:59 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6588&iddiary=11637Yakuza 0 (PS4) - Tue, 13 Feb 2018 00:13:52https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6588*HEAD DESK* Alright, well. This is round two since this program auto logged me out and deleted the last one. (enthused applause) Overall, thus far Ive got some mixed feels about this game. I think the Yakuza clan is pretty sensationalized in here but also its game play so accuracy blah blah. I think it is a super complicated ethical issue with how game play depicts gangs and gang members which is part of the reason I chose this game. The other reason is that I really have a soft spot for Japanese culture (im a Japanese minor). And lastly this game got amazing reviews. It was definitely a struggle today getting into game play. I had to tap after 45 minutes because its was over half just cut clips with minimal player control and what controls you did have were all tutorial based making the first half of the first chapter really exhaustive for a consumer. I do think they are doing an adequate job thus far of making sure that the protag is a highly emotionally and ethically (with a dash of angst lmao) character which will be important when I am thinking about ties to real life gang violence. Over all though I really felt less enjoyment than I was hoping for and more of the kid who has a mom yelling *jazz hands* from the sidelines hoping id get excited about it.Tue, 13 Feb 2018 00:13:52 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6588&iddiary=11608This is the police (Web) - Thu, 18 Jan 2018 01:02:45https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6563*I think I might have accidentally made two logs for this game oops* Okay well, I work a graveyard shift and we have lots of spare time so I figured I would put it to good use and play. Oh man, is the ship sinking. Things are getting messy. And my staff is becoming so touchy it is hard to operate. The budget is putting real stress on both me and staff especially when I am having to send out more man force than necessary on simple missions because they dont feel safe (because I suck as an official and entrenched our department in the mafia. Im telling you let the idiot BURN Kendrick). Im really exhausting and overworking my crew to hit basic needs and its getting harder and harder to have any clean ends. Im definitely starting to feel like a real sleeze ball with some of the calls I had to make to keep the department floating. (nothing like killing off an officer that asks to many questions am I right?) Im still really in love with the graphics style. Especially now that I am further into game play. It feels almost propaganda esk which I think is appropriate for the message that is being communicated. It also makes it easier to focus on both the game mechanics and how royally screwed you are in the story line morally as this poor sap of a chief. I do maintain that the actual mechanics of the game play are a little route. Repetitive but I think a good choice for the narrative.Thu, 18 Jan 2018 01:02:45 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6563&iddiary=11527This is the police (Web) - Wed, 17 Jan 2018 16:17:23https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6563Wellllllll Guess Im firing all of my black officers yikes. The moral dilemmas are getting much trickier much much trickier. This poor dude. Can't catch a break. It seems like it doesnt matter at this point what I do because I have already joined the mafia Im screwed as far as protection goes. Do want to mention the music is nice. So far the game play is pretty much the same as far as mechanics but the plot line is getting so so so very messy. I had to cap at the 30 minute minimum today so it wasnt the best session to get a feel. But enoughWed, 17 Jan 2018 16:17:23 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6563&iddiary=11496This is the police (Web) - Tue, 16 Jan 2018 19:56:52https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6537Starting with this is the police for OPA 1 Might I start with I have little to no game experience I thought the particular way they chose to animate the game was really interesting. The super minimal design is a good choice for communicating a dystopic authorization theme. I think the actual mechanics of the game play seemed pretty accessible to someone with no game experience. I didn't super love the force situations that were sprung on you pretty immediately. It brought up the Singer "life boat earth" theory on let die vs killing. I do think that they did a good job on making it actually real life based at least in as far as not censoring some of the graphic nature of crime. I didnt love that it seemed like corruption is the only option but I think it was reflective of our current affairs. Over all I think that the actual game play is slightly repetitive and seeming random in its out comes but the story line seems to be the lime light so it makes sense to put in easier to navigate mechanics. (also dont help Kendrick for the love of god, let the idiot burn)Tue, 16 Jan 2018 19:56:52 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6537&iddiary=11460
