McKennaCaldwell's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1954Here They Lie (PS4) - Fri, 30 Mar 2018 00:04:49https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6654I have no idea what is going on in this game. But there is a lot of immoral stuff happening. At one point, there is a theater full of people watching other people fall from the ceiling, being hanged. As a player you can run up and save them, but it doesn't really matter what you do, because more people will just continue to fall no matter how many you save. That certainly didn't make me feel good! I wanted to help them, especially because I thought there might be a chance for them to help me later on, but probably not. It was also very gruesome. The sounds and seeing it from all around with the VR really makes it have more of an impact. The game is only getting more interesting as I continue.Fri, 30 Mar 2018 00:04:49 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6654&iddiary=11818Here They Lie (PS4) - Tue, 27 Mar 2018 23:51:27https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6654Now the morals of the game are coming forward, however Im not even quite sure what they are yet. The NPCs of the world attack on another, they were animal heads and don't use words. They beat each other up seemingly for no reason at all. The game is trying to tell me something, I think I just don't yet have enough information. Making the game playable in VR definitely adds some moral dilemma. VR makes the game feel more real, more frightening, and more personal. Players feel like the main character because their perspective is more literally the player's perspective. It will undoubtedly come into play as the game's story develops further. I can't wait for everything to be more clear!Tue, 27 Mar 2018 23:51:27 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6654&iddiary=11757Here They Lie (PS4) - Mon, 26 Mar 2018 23:06:35https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6654I just started Here They Lie, so far Im terrified. I haven't progressed to far, so not much about the story or any ethical issues have come up, but I can feel them coming. I get the sense that the main character has done something bad and can't remember. There also seems to be some kind of cult running around. I already have many questions, and so far the game has hooked me. If I am correct, and the main character has done something bad, I like the choice to have the player figure it out and learn of it over time. I think it will add to the moral discussion.Mon, 26 Mar 2018 23:06:35 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6654&iddiary=11739Firewatch (PS4) - Wed, 14 Feb 2018 23:32:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6589The end of Firewatch really came together for me. I loved the moral choice of being flirty and kind of taking the relationship with Delilah further or deciding to stay true to your ailing wife. Its a hard choice to make! Delilah is a great character! She is funny and easy to connect with. And on one hand your wife is across the world and very sick. So sick she probably doesn't even remember Henry. But on the other hand, she is sick and Henry's wife. It seems so easy to just have a thing with Delilah, and then the game really makes you feel guilty and a little nervous. By adding the conspiracy that someone has been recording and overhearing their conversations the player can feel both of those emotions if they have made the morally "bad" choice. I thought it was brilliant. And I personally think that making the ending a little anti climactic helped that. It made you feel bad that you only felt guilty because you thought you would get caught.Wed, 14 Feb 2018 23:32:51 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6589&iddiary=11658Firewatch (PS4) - Tue, 13 Feb 2018 18:25:27https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6589The game is getting more moral choices! Deciding whether or not to report everything or anything to Delilah is sometimes conflicting. You know you should but sometimes it can feel risky. Especially in just deciding how to talk to Delilah, should you flirt or stay more professional, or even a mix of the two. The game does a great job of making you like Delilah but also feel guilty. It adds some great moral conflict to the beautiful mountain landscape.Tue, 13 Feb 2018 18:25:27 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6589&iddiary=11619Firewatch (PS4) - Mon, 12 Feb 2018 23:24:01https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6589I started Firewatch. I have to say the beginning really got me. Dementia is something that terrifies and saddens me. Getting to make the decisions in the beginning on how Harry and Julias life together starts, made me feel more connected to the game. It really made me think hard about what I would do in those situations. Especially because both choices given were very similar. This made me feel like I was doing what I would really do in a sense. But also put me into a situation I might never be in. Often, I had to stop and really think about what I would do before I proceeded. I can tell this game will have a lot of choices like that.Mon, 12 Feb 2018 23:24:01 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6589&iddiary=11602Shadow of War (PS4) - Thu, 18 Jan 2018 11:07:02https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6548I’ve been spending a lot of time completing “Outcast” missions. These missions have the player save 3 slaves from being executed. They are usually really fun and sometimes challenging, if you choose to complete the bonus objectives as well. These missions just make you feel like a hero as well as provide advantages as the more outcasts you free the more likely they are to give you intel on enemies. These missions, though small in purpose, made me feel like I was doing some good, making a little change. The nemesis system, while amazing, can make it feel like your actions have little impact, as when one enemy dies, another takes his place. These missions made me feel like a hero in a never ending sea of Uruks.Thu, 18 Jan 2018 11:07:02 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6548&iddiary=11549Shadow of War (PS4) - Wed, 17 Jan 2018 22:36:39https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6548Continuing my exploration of Shadow of War has been great! I love the combat system, Im glad that I can choose to take on a massive group of enemies and still get out alive. The mechanics make it feel like you are really skilled, and is very rewarding. The nemesis system is very interesting. I love that it adapts and changes, and even though it can be very frustrating, when you die having more enemies take their place makes the world feel really full and alive. It also presents a lot of moral choices. Deciding who live and dies when to help you gain advantages. Its really fun to explore and test all the options.Wed, 17 Jan 2018 22:36:39 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6548&iddiary=11513Shadow of War (PS4) - Tue, 16 Jan 2018 22:04:01https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6548This was my first time playing Shadow of War and I love it so far! The combat reminds me of The Witcher so I was able to quickly adapt to the game's mechanics. Im looking forward to getting farther into the story as I know very little right now about the characters. Although I have seen the Lord of the Rings movies (and loved them) so Im excited to see how this expands the lore. There was one thing that stuck out to me in the story so far. At one point in a main mission, the player needs to sneak into an area covered in orcs. In a cut scene, he looks from behind cover to see the orc beat up and then drag away a slave. The player's character comments on how terrible it is. And then his companion says that it provided a good distraction. Then the mission starts. As a player you don't have a choice to save the slave or not. But goes to show your companion's morals, or lack thereof.Tue, 16 Jan 2018 22:04:01 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6548&iddiary=11471
