Jason Jackson's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=19581979 Revolution: Black Friday (PC) - Wed, 28 Mar 2018 21:50:25https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6662My second session I actually managed to die. Good thing this isn't a rougelike. I noticed the game puts a lot of emphasis on the other characters "remembering your choices for later". It even manages to tell the player that much with text in the top left(?) corner ever time the player makes a choice that will become impactful later. This choice system has clear moral implications, although I have not gotten far enough to see any extreme consequences of those choices.Wed, 28 Mar 2018 21:50:25 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6662&iddiary=117831979 Revolution: Black Friday (PC) - Tue, 27 Mar 2018 22:41:33https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=66621979 Revolution is an interesting game, as it modulates between minimal game-play and storytelling. The actual impact of the choices contrasted nicely with Firewatch, the previous log's game. I was surprised at the details the game remembered, as that man clearly was offended that I didn't take his tea. This game seems especially interesting because it concerns a subject that I actually don't know a ton about. Because of this, the little story bits the game gives with each photo are quite helpful. The problem with not knowing all the proper history is that it leaves me a behind on the decision making, and makes me take each situation from solely game-provided information. This could be problematic, but it also offers the opportunity to take on the situations without bias.Tue, 27 Mar 2018 22:41:33 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6662&iddiary=11754Firewatch (PC) - Thu, 15 Feb 2018 11:42:21https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6613I easily finished the game this session. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The art, the music, and the bit of mystery held my attention though the end. I must say, before the two people were discovered, I did feel a little bad about encouraging DL to lie about it. During the whole last fourth (?), when the player was certain that they were being watched, the voice actors did an especially amazing job conveying the urgency and fear they felt. Without the stellar VAs, I am not sure I would have been nearly as invested in my in game decisions. The ending felt a little open. The player never gets to see DL, but I kinda figure that that's the point.Thu, 15 Feb 2018 11:42:21 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6613&iddiary=11678Shadow Of Mordor (PC) - Thu, 18 Jan 2018 11:10:50https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6541For today's session, I decided to switch to a controller. Turn out, the controls are far better this way. While the kbm controls felt OK, they feel much worse in comparison to what feels natural. After getting destroyed by a couple leaders, I spent a good 40 minutes riding around on a caragor doing side missions, and freeing the slaves. A part of the game that I was really excited to see was Gollum. Both the voice acting and animation really sold the authenticity of the character. Some of the most interesting parts of the game includes the dialogue you can overhear when close to npcs, which to my surprise, I have not heard repeat yet (I guess the 50gb game size is for a reason). As a huge fan of the books (and movies) The story sections of the game (to me) are definitely the most interesting. An RPG set in middle earth is clearly the recipe for success. In the process, I accidentally completed 2 story missions, but no harm done there. Apparently I was also doing archery wrong, and it is a lot stronger than I originally thought. However, I did lose a couple of the captain/miniboss battles over some confusion with the last stand mechanic. But overall, it was a productive session.Wed, 17 Jan 2018 21:05:03 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6541&iddiary=11505Shadow Of Mordor (PC) - Tue, 16 Jan 2018 20:53:58https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6541The gameplay was very interesting and engaging. The combat is easy, but very fluid (same with the climbing mechanics). There is a bug (or something) that I keep encountering with my pointer, but it is not too detrimental. The upgrade system seems very fleshed out, and will take some exploring to get used to. The graphics are amazing, and that further contributes to the cinematic feel that the game and cut scenes both seem to strive for.Tue, 16 Jan 2018 20:53:58 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6541&iddiary=11463
