Sarenna's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=2000A Mortician's Tale (PC) - Fri, 09 Nov 2018 22:45:37https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6903I decided to play through the game once more and I find it alarming how easily the funeral industry takes advantage of the customers. I personally did not know about the process of death and have had little interaction with the deceased of those in my family, however the game has a clear picture between the small business your character begins that focus on being accommodating, show sympathy, an death being a normal human experience. The big corporation that takes over though is all about fees, money, selling as much as you can to the customer, and not focus on showing compassion towards the customers nor taking into consideration culture perspectives in respecting the dead. The companies utilize the fear, misinformed, and grief to exploit those for money and the game wants players to know that this is ethically wrong to do. The game's ending is your character opening up their own funeral shop because they disagreed with the mindset and attitude of the bigger corporations.Fri, 09 Nov 2018 22:45:37 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6903&iddiary=12343A Mortician's Tale (PC) - Thu, 08 Nov 2018 21:26:36https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6903The game is short however it certainly gives quite the visual art about death. The game in the beginning had death be important to help others through and be supportive while in the middle of the game the corporation wanted you to not be supportive and instead exploit customers for money. The focus changed to not helping others to only about the money which comes off highly disrespectful and lacks any intention of empathy and sympathy. The diverse messages were mostly seen through the emails and comments of those in the funerals and something important that the game emphasized is death is not racist, sexist, etc. It given to everyone no matter who you are. The most important ethical message I have interpreted in the game is that death is meant to be respectful, supportive, and sympathize with those who are going through it. It is unethical to exploit those in vulnerability of loss and despair for profit.Thu, 08 Nov 2018 21:26:36 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6903&iddiary=12312A Mortician's Tale (PC) - Wed, 07 Nov 2018 20:22:33https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6903When playing Mortician's Tale I believe it would be safe to assume that this game will be talking about death. The game's mechanics are just test and experiment on what each item is when preparing bodies, but what has captured my attention is the comments of the family members and emails that the player received when interacting with those at the funeral. Sometimes the characters talked about the dead relative and sometimes nobody cared or even mentioned the deceased. I found it interesting about how different cultures treat the dead and what colors, jewelry, and clothing are respectful and not respectful. The different patients range in age of old and young on those who have died making death happen at any moment. I'm not sure what ethical stance the game will be taking about death, but the dialogue will be important to analyze to reach conclusive evidence. The line that stood out to me for this play through was your boss saying "Because we work with death all the time and I still sometimes get caught off guard by what that actually means." I asked myself what does that mean not only to me, but to the characters too. Death happens every day even if I am not around to witness it. side note- I had issues with getting the game up and running as so lovely is my garbo computer, I will be posting today, tomorrow, and the day after.Wed, 07 Nov 2018 20:22:33 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6903&iddiary=12268This is the Police (Switch) - Thu, 27 Sep 2018 20:08:30https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6815The game has quite a bit of content to go through to reach the end. I got the impression of just going through the same motions in answering calls with a few upgrades in the form of labor slots, pay raise, and others feels more like filler for the game then being a game that is trying to improve on what it has set up in the beginning. The investigations in the game do increase in complexity to give the impression of approaching more challenges as your days increase but unfortunately still reads as moderate flow. The story of Jack's struggles with his life seems to try and get the audiences attention with empathy, but I personally do not really feel deep connection to Jack as his character does not really resonate with me and he comes off as very rude to everyone around him. His circumstances can be stressful to be a consequence for his behavior though. The game handles many political, legal, and moral situations and the player's own morals about the law and politics can influence decisions. The game makes a point to manage your staff well because not responding to a call when all officers are out on the field lead to bad consequences like civilians dying and sometimes officers on the field die which feels awful. The calls can range from homicide, rape, abduction, domestic violence, theft, misdemeanors, and false alarms. What is interesting is that everything being called breaks the law in some way, but it does not make a statement about separating morals from law as the mafia situation is helping criminals break the law without legal consequences. Also the game has situations like those in power can determine to cut your budget or cut your staff slots because you failed on jobs or did not be a corrupt official for them in taking the blame. If anything there should be an increase for more staff if we do not have enough to respond to all calls. If I am going to make the case where this is the police is using morals and law interchangeably I am going to have to do further research as a lot of the game is repetitive in core gameplay.Thu, 27 Sep 2018 20:08:30 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6815&iddiary=12161This is the Police (Switch) - Wed, 26 Sep 2018 20:40:01https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6815This is the police reminds me a little of the game Paper Please as your continuing to balance many calls of the city and dealing with consequences like cutting down staff, taking the blame in the light of the media reporting on you and gaining and loosing money. However, how you gain the money can be under abuse of power, being corrupt official, or following the law and revealing the corruption of the higher ups. The involvement of doing mafia jobs certainly calls into question if being unlawful is equivalent to being moral. A rather early choice is to supposedly save your friend and his family from being murdered from the mafia, but consequently if you do the mafia is now active in your life as many mafia tasks will come up from now on, but you can still chose to do them or not. Another part of the game is the narrative story of the main cop and his life being affected by certain choices the player makes. This game is certainly bringing into context between what is moral and what is the law because ethically they are not the same.Another interesting point in the game is you want more professional staff however you may not have the grounds to fire them legally which means you can still choose to do so or strategically hire older staff and wait for when the labor market has more professional cops available, but is that necessarily the right thing to do? Also just because it is illegal to fire someone without legal reasons is it morally wrong to do so? (This entry has been edited1 time. I already enjoy the voice acting for the characters. Once you got a bit of the story the game gives you a press conference with multiple options to respond to the reporters questions. I realize that what I choose to say may affect my gameplay so I already thinking logical and ethical ways to respond and what the consequences could be. Afterwards I begin playing the core gameplay where I send officers to do jobs around town, I am faced with mafia affiliation, and city hall wanted me to fire black officers due to city tensions I of course can choose to participate or not. There are already a lot of hard choices to make when you are given power. I can choose to abuse it or not. My first play run of the game really emphasized racism as with city hall wanting me to fire officers and in the beginning where the mayor is described with white shoes, white polo and white other clothes in a harsh describing tone as if the outfit meant something much harsher. I look forward to seeing how the story plays out with my next play through.Tue, 25 Sep 2018 19:40:09 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6815&iddiary=12074Little Nightmares (PS4) - Thu, 30 Aug 2018 20:23:52https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6750I'm surprised by finishing the game within a couple sessions, and I'm left with many questions and little answers, but I think the game intended for its audience to have unique speculation about what is happening in this dark world. I at first thought the yellow character taking moments to eat were at first just showing a struggle to survive as eating the rat out of desperation, the kind boy throwing his food to the main character and the trap with food, however, the game makes a sharp turning point on what consuming possibly means because after you run and avoid all the people who are trying to eat you there is a moment where you are hungry again. The character comes upon one of the cone shape people who is holding a sausage. As the cone head person is lifting the sausage for you to consume I felt a happy about the generosity and that happy feeling turned into complete shock when the yellow character lunged at the cone head person to eat him instead of the sausage! This turning point event escalated to later eating a large woman and possibly eating the souls of the other people towards the end. There are so many small details in the game that I doubt I noticed the majority. The game's ending baffled me and I wonder many things such as if the yellow coat character is related to the lady who runs the grotesque eating place or even the man who committed suicide in the beginning. I wonder why were all the small children who slept in beds or sat in cages were being exploited for food, were they the same race as the larger people in the end resulting in twisted cannibalism, child abuse, and murder? What are the cone people suppose to be or represent? The game has a lot of implied or bold content that would make many people uncomfortable and disturbed due to the strong moral topics of suicide, child abuse, cannibalism, and suicide. I have been left with many mixed feelings and would go through the chapters again to find more details to fill the plot holes that lead to the confusing ending.Thu, 30 Aug 2018 20:23:52 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6750&iddiary=11993Little Nightmares (PS4) - Wed, 29 Aug 2018 21:40:46https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6750I continued forward with the game wondering what terrifying surprises awaited me this session. I found it odd that the character gets hungry, but not in the sense of needing to refill hunger over time instead there is a purpose to eat each time. The food in the trap was needed to continue with the next scene in the game while eating the rat seemed odd for the moment. When I am hiding and running away from the long armed man and the twin cooks I feel panic, nervous, and adrenaline. Their appearance gives me the creeps along with creepy audio of scary music, pounding heart beat, and heavy breathing from the cooks set the tone for the tension I experience when crouching under tables in shadows to avoid them. I do enjoy the creative way of escaping each room because I have to think about what looks like an escape route as it is not always obvious. There is secrets too from the cone head creatures and the breakable dolls, however, I may need to replay to get them all.Wed, 29 Aug 2018 21:40:46 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6750&iddiary=11953Little Nightmares (PS4) - Tue, 28 Aug 2018 22:01:10https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6750I have no background information about little nightmares. My starting experience towards this game has left me tense, disturbed, and raising many questions. The format of this game reminds me very much of the games Limbo and Inside. The main character's yellow jacket really stands out against the gloomy and despair environment. My first instinct when starting out is to test out the controls and see what I can do. A comforting light is what gives slight relaxation and the ability to see my surroundings. My instincts since the beginning tells me that I am hiding and running away from someone or something but I could not figure out what that may be. There are many details in the game that add an unsettling feeling while playing and even possibly really dark concepts in the game. There are tiny hand prints in black on walls, drag marks on floors, a large person who had committed suicide, nooses hanging, eyes that turn you to what seems like stone and leech like creatures strangling you to death. The more details I notice I feel more unsettled and wondering what is happening in this twisted place. The scare that left even more questions was the disturbing silhouette of a giant creature walking through one of the rooms filled with small children. I turned my light off and hid very quickly in seeing this monster. Already this game has left me with many questions and intriguing me uncover more of the truth on why the yellow coat character is trying to escape, run, and hide.Tue, 28 Aug 2018 22:01:10 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6750&iddiary=11921
