Snuggles's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=224Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 18:49:40https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1449Having just completed Shadow of the Colossus, I can say that it is a bona fide classic. It is challenging, epic in scope, beautiful in presentation, and contains amazing gameplay. My favorite part of the game is how each Colossus presents new challeges and are a puzzle in and of themselves. MY personal favorite is the flying Colossus in the desert towards the end of the game due to the complication in defeating it and the enigmatic beauty of the scene itself. Battling it with the sun beating down on you character as the dust whips around and its shadow slips over the sand is one of my favorite visuals from any game ever. The only thing I criticize about the game is the last battle with what is no doubt the largst Colossus in the game. While there are many parts to the battle, from just getting close enough to grapple it to getting to its weak spot, I just felt the battle was more of a test of getting to its head than a real challenge. Once you find the last weakspot it is just really easy, and I hoped for a larger challenge. The story ends beautifully if not slightly tragic in a way. Beautiful, compelling, and amazing, Shado of the Colossus seeks to be simple and finds something more that transcends anything I have seen or played before.Fri, 23 Feb 2007 18:49:40 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1449&iddiary=3076Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 17:37:58https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1449I played Shadow of the Colossus for more than an hour, not because I didn't plan on playing it for an hour but because once I started I couldn't stop. It is an epic and beautiful game if there ever was one, and truly a piece of art. Everything about the game is somewhat simple, the story is about saving a youn maiden in a state of either death or coma and the game only has boss characters and no other enemies. However, it is the simplicity which is almost what makes the game so wonderful. I am almost on the final Colossus, so I will finish with my opinion of SotC upon completiong.Fri, 23 Feb 2007 17:37:58 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1449&iddiary=3054Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (PSP) - Sat, 10 Feb 2007 01:38:47https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1176I have complete Syphon Filter:Dark Mirror and can say in all honesty that not only is it a great hand held game, but a great game period. It has graphics, action, story, and refinement on par with console games. The controls are great, something that I was worried about when I think PSP and shooter due to the lack of a second analog stick. The production value is wonderful, from the cutscenes to the levels the graphics are extremely well done. The action is also great and fairly non-stop. Even the story of the secret virus and evil terrorist group while cliche remains interesting due to its slick presentation. Overall a great game, possible system seller, killer app, and a must have for PSP owners.Sat, 10 Feb 2007 01:38:47 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1176&iddiary=2765Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (PSP) - Thu, 08 Feb 2007 21:18:38https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1176I have been playing Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror for a few hours and I must say that it is excellent. Having played a lot of PSP games as of late, SF:DM is the best I have played since I bought the system. It is a third person shooter with some elements of stealth, but don't think it is boring just because it is formulaic. The story centers around a mysterious group called the Red Section and a secret project known as Dark Mirror. As Gabe Logan, an agent for the Agency coincidentally, you must find the source of the terrorist group and what Dark Mirror is. I will give a full review once I have completed the game but for now I can say it has tight controls, varied locations, the best graphics I've seen on the PSP, and as interesting story regardless of its commonality.Thu, 08 Feb 2007 21:18:38 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1176&iddiary=2516Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 19:13:39https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=819Having now completed the game, I can agree that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has garnered its classic status. It is the ultimate GTA up until this point due to its expansive world and great structure. The missions are exciting, the story enticing, and the game play is incredible. The shooting portion of the game could still use more improvement in that the lock on system remains to be one of the weakest parts of the game. This game is a masterpiece, and one that will take you 40 plus hours to complete. The best part of GTA:SA is the best part of the entire series, it is simply fun to play. There are many things about the game that could have been more finely tuned, but at the end of the day the game is just too enjoyable to really be effected by the little things. Also, the level of character customization adds a lot to the players connection with their character. Clothes, body size, tattoos, are all optional. The game also has a lot of emotion to it for a GTA game. It can be hilarious, sad, exciting, and awe inspiring. It is the tale of gang life, and it spans an entire state and one character. It begins with the death of CJ's mother and him being framed for the murder of a police officer by crooked cops, moves to CJ uniting with allies all over San Andreas, and finally to his final battle with beating the framing rap and taking down those that have betrayed him. Although the ending was somewhat disappointing(I was expecting something with more depth), I thoroughly enjoyed the story anyway. A great game and experience, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the ultimate modern day classic.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 19:13:39 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=819&iddiary=1896Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 15:16:18https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=819Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the best game in the series, period. With the expansion of the game world to the attention put in creating the interesting characters, it has it all. The games opening in Los Santos drags a lot before you get to the meat of the game, which is the more complex missions and taking over the city by defeating the other gangs. The story is also the best in the series because it interests you ith the characters, especially the main character CJ that unlike the main characters in the previous two games proves to be a more realistic and emotional character. All of the games cities are quite amazing, but at this point I am back in Los Santos and will give a full report when I finish the game today.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 15:16:18 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=819&iddiary=1810Gangs of London (PSP) - Fri, 12 Jan 2007 16:23:21https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=441Having played Gangs of London more after the review, I realize that while the game is repetitive it remains fun in short bursts. In my opinion, the short mission structure is intended to create a truly mobile experience. The intention of most portable systems and games is to create something that is enjoyable on the go, and Gangs of London fits this ideal mobile game experience well. While it is simple and somewhat short, it is not lacking in story and fun. As I said in my previous entry, it is not worth buying a PSP console for, but it is worth buying if you are looking to have fun on the move or just in your home.Fri, 12 Jan 2007 16:23:21 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=441&iddiary=1431Gangs of London (PSP) - Wed, 10 Jan 2007 17:21:56https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=441Having just bought a PSP, I am new to the games available for the system. After looking at what games I thought would be interesting, I chose Gangs of London as one of the games to purchase when I got the system. Gangs of London is a game that attempts to be somewhat like Grand Theft Auto, but is less about freedom than having simple mission based game play. Missions vary from driving to a destination, losing tails, defending areas, shooting enemy gangs, sneaking through buildings, and disabling and then stealing vehicles. The ultimate goal of the game is to take over London with the gang of your choice. Speaking of which, there are six gangs within the game the player can play as. The story revolves around your gang’s rise to the top and is told through graphic novel 2D storyboards. The game controls fairly well with a few instances aside where I found it difficult to manipulate the camera and fire on the correct enemy. Gangs of London’s replay value may seem as though it would be high considering that there are six gangs to choose from, but having beaten the game and then played a few levels with a different gang I know that every mission is the same with a different gang as the protagonist. There are several mini games in a menu called THE PUB, most of which are fun if not occasionally challenging. These include darts, skittles, UK Pool, and US Pool There is also an almost pointless free roam mode where you can drive around the city and involve yourself in various scenarios. Overall it is a decent game that can be fun as well as repetitive. I suggest Gangs of London if you already have a PSP, but it certainly isn't a reason to go out and buy one.Wed, 10 Jan 2007 17:21:56 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=441&iddiary=1130
