ch0ke's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=254Super Mario 64 (N64) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 15:24:41https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1434To think that this game came out when I was in elementary school seems impossible. The N64 system was so revolutionary when it came out not only because of the graphics but more because of the affordability. It has been years since I played MArio 64 but I still remember where most of the levels are. The first level I jumped into was the first star snowman level. The level design is amazing. Although the player is allowed free control the level setup allows the player to be directed in the direction of the goal without actually trying to. For example, on the snowman level Mario is at the bottom of the summit. The only logical way is up to the peak. Although the player might lose time running around looking for the bridges ultimately even little kids will be able to progress. The enemies are easier than I remember, a little too much so, but this does not bother me because as a child I remember the enemies presented quite a challenge. I'm always on the lookout for those hidden stars because I know they unlock levels in the future. At times, on the bridge and jumping especially, the camera gets irratating producing weird angles unless manually positioned. This wouldn't be as much of a problem except mario leaping into a chasm, because the camera shifted stragely before the edge, gets old.Fri, 23 Feb 2007 15:24:41 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1434&iddiary=3025God of War (PS2) - Wed, 14 Feb 2007 01:16:43https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1318After a couple hours of playing I suddenly realized because I had beaten the game before the best part, the stroyline, was no longer new and interesting. The actual gameplay, although fun, has become tedious and boring. Although Krato learns new moves and gets certain weapons the twin swords are always the bread and butter. And let me tell you after 3 hours of bread and butter, I hunger for an alternative. The same combos get thrown down and the same strategies are used to kill mob after mob. Wed, 14 Feb 2007 01:16:43 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1318&iddiary=2826God of War (PS2) - Tue, 13 Feb 2007 15:12:44https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1318Today I went back and started playing God Of War again. I beat it once but I fondly remember whooping mythological monsters and blazing button combos. The graphics are rather surprising for PS2 and the camera is not really controllable. About 15 minutes in I remembered why I loved the game when I began the first boss fight. Besides the generic attack slow attack and special buttons the only way to deafeat bosses is to enter this sort of combo mode. Kratos the main character will jump on the bosses back or something of the sort and instead of attacking normally a series of buttons will flash on the screen and the player is given ~1/2 a second to hit the correct button and Krato will respond by doing something insane. For example against the first boss, the hydra, if the complete series is pressed by the player kratos will use his Blades of Wrath, Kratos chain swords, to impale the Hydras head and slam him down into the wooden catwalk eliminating most of his life. The graphics are really amazing and combined with Kratos bad attitude it really adds up for hours of monster butt kicking fun.Tue, 13 Feb 2007 15:12:44 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1318&iddiary=2818Goldeneye 007 (N64) - Sat, 03 Feb 2007 14:24:12https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1130I took some time to play Goldeneye single player. I vaugely remember the levels because I remember it was the only waay to get the cheats menu in multiplayer. I found the enemies to be of no challenge, probably because it was on agent but the sillyness of not being able to unlock super agent mode until the game has been beaten bothers me. Why would anyone want to sit through the entire story killing unchallenging enemies to be only rewarded with the same story slightly harder? The story and cutscenes were amazing for the time and had the perfect balance of player immersion but not overly spamming the cutscenes like some of the Final Fantasy games are known for. I must admit though at points I was completely lost in the magic circle thinking I was James Bond runnning around the facility looking for those tanks I'm supposed to blow up. This feeling was mostly aided by the silenced PPK. Regardless of my critiques I salute Goldeneye as one of the greatest First Person Shooters of all time.Sat, 03 Feb 2007 14:24:12 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1130&iddiary=2431Goldeneye 007 (N64) - Sat, 03 Feb 2007 14:15:27https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1130Today I spent some times at my friends dorm where he has Super Smash set up. A couple minutes in someone saw the Goldeneye cartridge and suggest we play. I was on board because I remember Goldeneye with nostalgia. After selecting Natalia I was slightly disoriented because I had forgotten how old the game had gotten. It took me a while to adjust to the older graphics and sluggish running style but I was soon camping the RCP90. It became silly though because I remember there being more skill involved but I was just dominating camping the rcp90 and the bullet-proof vests. The auto-aim and lack of recoil make the game completely weapon based. Although it is possible to defeat the rcp90 it is generally a no contest win for the rcp90. In case people don't know the rcp90 is the automatic gun that has a ridiculous rate of fire. The power and rate of fire mixed with auto-aim make the rcp90 a totally unfair gun. The gameplay was great when no one was camping any of the guns and just running around. But after a while the slow movement and auto aim did get to us and we decided to play Halo.Sat, 03 Feb 2007 14:15:27 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1130&iddiary=2430Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Sat, 03 Feb 2007 14:04:08https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=679Yesterday I participated in a super smash brothers tournament. Although I had not played in a while the controls are rather simple, a possible downside, and I was quickly up to speed again. Super smash brothers is a platform fighting game, although it is slightly outdated technologically, the gameplay is unbeatable. The game is designed with multiplayer focus. The camera adjusts to keep all four players in the camera view at all time even when they may be at opposite sides of the "stage" or fighting area. I say the gameplay is unbeatable because I found myself intensely lost in the magic circle only able to howl when I was defeated. The pressure of using all your character's abilities to launch the enemies off the stage is overwhelming. At times I broke down in desperation and started button jamming when I was on the verge of being put off the edge by the person right next to me. Sadly, the enthusiasm passes and the nostalgic joy I felt at first vanished in the form of frustration. At a certain point, as in most fighting games, the only true way to increase your skill with a player is to already know all their special moves and combos. But, because this game is truly one of the greatest games ever on the N64 platform, getting to know the moves comes in handy because wherever I have gone I've always found someone still playing this game.Sat, 03 Feb 2007 14:04:08 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=679&iddiary=2429Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Wed, 17 Jan 2007 14:42:12https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=679I did not win by the way. Silly little kirby stole my skills and kept dropping on top of me and knocked me out last. Wed, 17 Jan 2007 14:42:12 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=679&iddiary=1554Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Wed, 17 Jan 2007 14:41:13https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=679Today I was playing super smash brothers with 3 friends on nitendo 64. In contrast to many other games I play the graphics are pretty retro. When too many things are going on at once the frames per second drop and it gets pretty laggy. Then again its probably just the old N64 thats been droppped too many times. I select Starfox and we are fighting at Fox's ship. Even though it has been a while since I've last played the controls come easily and I am soon working people with the sword. Now I remember why this game is so great. It is all about the gameplay and the competition with this game. We have split up and are fighting 2v2 on opposite side of the map. I'm working my friend who picked Samus because the reflect shield owns shooters. I've already deflected samus's carged shot twice once successfully knocking her off. I love the epic struggle between the characters on the screen because the battle is so intense. Even when your opponent belives you are down and out and falling off there are still possibilities to get back. Because the players are balanced and each have their own strategy the game is never dull and lackluster.Wed, 17 Jan 2007 14:41:13 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=679&iddiary=1553World of Warcraft (PC) - Thu, 11 Jan 2007 20:18:21https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=499Today I spent a couple hours getting my high warlord pvp helm. 1337 to say the least. Now I enjoy to +20 stam bonus from that and the shoulders. I recorded 448 honor kills in 5 alterac valleys and sat on top of the charts in both. My favorite moment of the day was my 3.1k multi shot crit on a silly mage. If I figure how to upload screenshots I'll start posting some of my pwnage moments. I'm contemplating switching back to beastmastery spec for the grinding(leveling) to 70 in the burning crusades. But I don't think I could do that because I love crits so much, Beastmastery is eazy mode for hunters for those of you who don't know. Your pet does about 60% of the dps you deal so you can level one handed.Thu, 11 Jan 2007 20:18:21 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=499&iddiary=1213World of Warcraft (PC) - Thu, 11 Jan 2007 20:11:56https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=499Sorry about that I split up my logs. Anyways a little background info on myself. I have a 60 orc hunter, pvp spec, on Dune maul (dunelawl) and a 48 orc war, fury spec, on mug'thol. I also have a twink troll rogue 19 who does nothing lately. I rep horde and deeply enjoy my pvp servers because it give me a chance to mess up silly alliance players day. Wow is based on the fictional world azeroth, created by blizzard with their real time strategy game series Warcraft. Basically the two factions: horde and alliance are fighting because they can't get along. The alliance : humans, dwarves, night elves, and gnomes (lol, note: gnomes were evil in warcraft not good guys) The alliance are intolerant of the horde and basically attempt to cleanse azeroth. The horde led by Warchief Thrall contain Tauren, orcs, trolls and undead. Besides generic leveling you can world pvp against the opposing faction which has no reward besides meager honor points. There are also battlegrounds where tensions mount between horde and alliance and mortal combat ensues. Capture the flag, capture and hold and a plaver vs computer versions of battlegrounds exist. The questing is rather intersting and there are quest rewards that make it a rather interesting experience. The expansion comes out in a week and I can't wait to get to level 70 before they nerf hunters. WOW is the game I love and hate at the same time but I will most likely play it for another couple months before I enter wow rehab. Anyone on either of those servers feel free to whisper me my orc hunter is morenoverde and my war on mug'thol is mackloud.
