dudeski's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=302Final Fantasy (PSP) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 17:28:23https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1443During the next session of play I got passed the first continent and found another village. The village introduced a new objective, defeat the pirates. Upon completing this mission one get's a new reward, too. The ability to go across the ocean on a boat. This enables the player to visit far away contninents and complete more advanced missions. With these new territories come harder enemies, that I am not yet able to defeat. To advance farther I either need more powerful weapons or spells, or a way higher level. This fact is discouraging because the only way to get these things is by earning experience or money through repetive fights that get boring after a while. The ability to name characters was fun put pretty limiting because you could only have four letters. The overall game play was very fun, and not that much different than rpg's of today. The different character abilities useful in different situations, and each level really helps your character. The only complaint that I have so far is that leveling up takes too much time.Fri, 23 Feb 2007 16:39:45 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1443&iddiary=3041Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfect (PS2) - Fri, 09 Feb 2007 18:52:12https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1271The game continues to be entertaining throughout, but only because of the boss fights. The intermittent henchmen battles became a little repetitve and took me a little while. But then I also realized that the really hard levels could be bypassed by playing the game as another character. An interesting twist in the game is that occainsionally you play as the antagonist against the heroes. It was the most fun when I played the multiplayer against my brother. Some very epic battles can ensue. On the other hand playing versus mode against the computer leaves you somewhat wanting as they can never be as good as a human. The game is pretty good overall but better if played with a friend.Fri, 09 Feb 2007 18:52:12 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1271&iddiary=2708Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfect (PS2) - Fri, 09 Feb 2007 18:38:59https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1271I rented the game Marvel Nemesis from our friendly neighborhood Blockbuster, and as a comic fan I was very excited. The game has classic comic book story line (evil being from another dimension comes to earth to wreak havok), but I expected such from a game about comic book characters. It's very exciting to unlock each player and use their powers; and, also, you recieve comic books and cards of characters as you progress. These provide more incentive than the story to advance the game. Their are only two attack buttons, one being a melee attack button and another a grappling or grabbing maneuver. These are aguemented by pressing R1 which enables you to use super powers. The triangle button can also be augmented by R1 for defensive purposes. One very cool element of gameplay is the use of environment, almost anything can be used as a weapon. I have yet to try the multiplayer aspect of the game but I will in my next log.Fri, 09 Feb 2007 18:38:59 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1271&iddiary=2702Gradius (NES) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 19:23:42https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=825I took about a two hour break from the game before I started playing again, and when I started playing again, I realized that I had not learned anything in my previous playing session. This game made me very frustrated, It may be because I didn't really play this game as a little kid, but it just doesn't feel like a classic to me. Then again I might be saying this because I could never pass the volcano part in the first level. It may be my fault as a subpar player that I didn't get past the volcano, but never the less after two hours of the same ten minutes of the level got very boring for me, even with the awesome power-ups. This doesn't mean that I will no longer play the game, but it does mean that I will no longer feel enjoyment until I pass the volcano. The game still feels like a standard scrolling game to me, but maybe if I got more strategic with my powerups it would blossom into something outstanding. Overall, I believe Gradius is a solid game, but not something fit to the taste of a gamer like me who enjoys platforms a bit more.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 19:23:42 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=825&iddiary=1901Gradius (NES) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 16:12:52https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=825I played Gradius for the first time today. I had never previously heard of this game before class the other day, and was a little interested to see what the game was about. My first comment was that the game was a great deal like space invaders except a horizontal scroller instead of a vertical one. This was before I learned about the powerups. The powerups add a very interesting and enjoyable aspect to the game. I quickly learn that you recieve powerups by achieving certain objectives, like killing an entire sequence of ships or destroying the red one. I only just learned that you recieve different powerups depending on the number of tokens collected by reading other students' game logs, and I believe that this aspect will improve my gameplay immensely. The game may prove to be too dificult for me because I cannot even get past the volcano, and I am starting to lose my motivation to try. It may have helped to have a story about why I am committing genocide on this alien space fleet. A pretty entertaining game so far, though. I will give my full report in another hour.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 16:12:52 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=825&iddiary=1827007 Nightfire (PS2) - Fri, 12 Jan 2007 15:57:24https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=571The multiplayer part of 007 Nightfire also very solid, meaning that is a pretty good game that engages the player but it has no stand out features to single it out from other multiplayer, first person shooters. The game does deserve some praise, though. It has a few interesting weapons (the one that I really liked was the remote controlled rocket launcher) and it also incorporated the the possibility of non-player bots into the multiplayer game in case the player has neither online capabilities nor a plethora of friends. This makes the multiplayer game a little more interesting, but because the bots have the military acumen of a three month old gerbil victory is assured to one of the human players. Overall a good multiplayer experience but nowhere near as fun as I remembered Golden Eye being(Where are the proximity mines?).Fri, 12 Jan 2007 15:57:24 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=571&iddiary=1428007 Nightfire (PS2) - Fri, 12 Jan 2007 03:26:21https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=571I started playing the game and really early on, I realized that I cared nothing for the story. This means that I skipped through every cut scene, and in any other game, this would mean that I would be terminally confused and would not be able to finish the level; but in Nightfire, they give you the objectives and hints on how to obtain them in the start menu. Ignoring the unengaging story, the gameplay was pretty entertaining. it has intuitive controls and an auto aim system that's essential if you want to be able to hit anyone. The set up the game allows the player to either rush in with a shoot 'em up attitude or finesse the enemies with a stealthier approach. The game might actually get a little boring but they liven it up a little bit buy throwing in a vehicle level every now and then. A good experience but only an average game. I'm going to play the multiplayer game next.Fri, 12 Jan 2007 03:26:21 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=571&iddiary=1333
