jason tom's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=327mario 64 (N64) - Sat, 24 Feb 2007 01:15:01https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1477After the next hour of play i started to look more at the actual gameplay and the graphics and difficulties that came up in the game. I found that the gameplay was very broad and all there really was too it was that Princess Peach was captured and you have to defeat Bowser in order to save the princess. That wasn't much different than any of the other Mario games that had come out before. I also noticed that controlling the character was very difficult at first and it took some time and practice to be able to control him better. Also looking at the graphics of the gameplay i noticed that they werent always smooth. Some of the charatcers had rough edges that stood out. The camera angle was also interesting as it allowed for more movement but it also caused problems as you continued to play such as moving to late or moving as the wrong time. I did like however that to complete the game you had to move through many different worlds and you had several different objectives to complete. I also liked how Bowser continues to become harder the more times that you challenge him.Sat, 24 Feb 2007 01:15:01 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1477&iddiary=3111mario 64 (N64) - Sat, 24 Feb 2007 00:55:29https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1477Mario 64 was a revolutionary game which brought in several new aspects to the gaming world. The first time i looked at it I looked at the game with a more technical point of view. Mario 64 incorporated the camera into a actual character which was never done before (and its fun being able to see him during the gameplay), and it allowed you to control the angle of the camera with only a push of a button. I also noticed that the game gave a good volume of collision detection, as you hit a wall you bounce back off it. This Mario 64 game also strays away from the usual mario games. Usually during mario games if you were hit you usually died. This is also the first mario game that allowed you to have a full 3D enviormen to run around in. Collecting coins was also different in Mario 64, originally you collected coins to gain lives but in this game you collected coins in order to gain lost health. This was a new type of game both for the overal gaming experience and to the chain of super mario games.Sat, 24 Feb 2007 00:55:29 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1477&iddiary=3108Goldeneye 007 (N64) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 17:45:22https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1079After playing for another hour I began to play the levels on harder modes and trying to unlock the special cheats. I found this was the only real way to have a challenge. When I placed difficulty level higher I realized that the enemies didn't become any more intelligent you just lost more life everytime you were struck. I was still able to follow a group of soldiers from behind and then just walk up and strike them from behand with a hand chop. I don't think that would happen in more recent games on Playstation 2 or 3, or on Xbox. The real reason for trying to unlock cheats was because it really placed more objectives in your hands. To try and complete a mission on hard under two minutes takes much more skill than taking your time. At the moment I am still attempting to finish the "Facility" on the 00 agent setting in 2:05 minutes or less. So far I have failed about 4 times mostly because I run out of time.Wed, 31 Jan 2007 17:45:22 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1079&iddiary=2339Goldeneye 007 (N64) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 17:29:34https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1079After playing Goldeneye 007 I found that the missions themselves were very easy to memorize. If you failed the first time you could go back and finish it easily because of the fact that nothing ever changed. The levels also never allowed you to explore as the path you were to take was always mapped out. The enemies in the game were not the smartest either. You could walk up to a group of guards shoot one and the others wouldn't even turn around. You would have to physically walk in front of an enemy for them to take notice. The game could have been more challenging if the shooting system wasn't self targeting. If you placed your gun anywhere near the enemy the gun would fire into the enemy. I felt as if i never really had to concentrate on aiming at all, just hold down the fire button and spin the joystick. I also didn't like that when you are hit by the enemy you slow down for a second. This caused for an awkward moment which usually caused you to be hit by consecutive shots.Wed, 31 Jan 2007 17:29:34 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1079&iddiary=2330Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 19:03:14https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=854After playing the vs. mode in Super Smash Brothers I chose to then play the challenge mode. During these challenges I found the easiest character to use was kirby and to bypass all those annoying bummpers was to use his rock block ability (when kirby transforms into a solid block and smashes through anything underneath him). The hardest character to use was definatly donkey kong with his huge body its hard for him to fit through all those small spaces and his slow body movement causes concerns when time is running out. I am currently still in the process of finishing all of the challenges with kirby. After that I hope to finish all the characters, as there is nothing really else to do in the game. The only difficulty playing this game so far has been the unability of controlling your characters jumping ability better. If your trying to fit into a space you have to either time it right and if you miss wait for the chance to use the second jump or land and start over again. Again this becomes annoying when you are facing a challenge with only five seconds left and a jumping quest in your way until the end.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 19:03:14 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=854&iddiary=1891Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 18:54:44https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=854Super Smash Brothers was an interesting game to play as it allowed you to more in a game then just the four player melee. While I was playing I found that the most interesting part of the game, which was also the most enjoyable, was the ability to seperate the players onto several teams. I never really found it a challenge to have a free for all as i always won no matter who I played as. Just shows how much time i've been on this game not such a good thing though. I only found it a challenge when I played a three on one match with each computer character on the highest setting. Of the two avaliable modes, time or stock, I found that time was the most exhilarating mode as you have to actually kill some opponents. In the stock you could always run away until theres only one person left and then destroy them as they only a few lives left. Theres no fun in that and when you play with friends you always have that one person that will pull that stunt. Another great addition to the game was the ability to choose the items that dropped during gameplay, and how often they dropped as well. Personally for me I love to only have the poke balls and huge donkey kong hammers fall and have them fall like every ten seconds creates complete chaos. Plus this also creates the situation to become harder for you during the melee battles.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 18:54:44 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=854&iddiary=1887Medieval Total War (PC) - Fri, 12 Jan 2007 19:01:39https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=634After playing Medieval Total War for another hour there have been many more interesting turns to the game. As you move up in difficulty you find that teh level of the computer characters doesn't change, what does change is the difficulty in managing your finances and troops. I was given only a few troops and very little territory as the Dutch unlike the French who were given substantial amounts of troops and land. It then became difficult to build troops as all my income was only enough to sustain the troops that i already had which made expanding difficult. When I did take a territory i usually failed to have enough troops in that territory to sustain control. I soon became trapped in my first attempt and had to resign from the game. My next attempt has shown a little improvement, I only know that the level of stratigic moves has grown, and you are allowed almost no room for error or bad moves.Fri, 12 Jan 2007 19:01:39 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=634&iddiary=1460Medieval Total War (PC) - Fri, 12 Jan 2007 18:54:15https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=634Playing this game was exciting because everytime you play you find yourself having to think of a new stragety to defeat all your opponents. No two games are ever alike which is what makes this game so facinating. The large map that you are required to conqure also makes the game hard but strategical because of the fact that you have to watch all the territories that you control. The downside is that this game is long and it can become frustrating. However the features that come with the game make the long wait worth while. During the game play you can partake in two seperate battle modes. One allows you to automatically take care of the battle and gives you the results in about two seconds. The other mode allows you to personally control your troops in battle. This mode I have found can either help or hurt your chances for victory, mainly depends how well you can control the troops and your knowledge of commands. Medieval Total War has been the game that shows you how difficult it is to control a vast kingdom. Not only do you have to command the troops in battle, but once you have control of the land you have to please the people who live there or they may revolt against you. You also have to deal with the finances needed to create troops and build structures. I belive the best part of the game is that you have to balance out your troop placement as territories can revolt if you do not have enough troops in that area. You also have to watch out for random fractions that pop up during game play. These are usually from royal lines that have had their territory taken over. Currently I have beaten the game as the French which are listed as easy setting. It took me about five hours of play to conquor the world. I am now in the process of playing as the Dutch who have the settings at medium difficulty.Fri, 12 Jan 2007 18:54:15 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=634&iddiary=1454
