araraujo's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=335Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Sun, 25 Feb 2007 17:19:09https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1496Playing this game again after a long period of not playing helped me to remember that you need to use the joystick more, rather than the buttons to perform different attacks. I found that all the characters are relatively easy to use, especially characters like Kirby. He is able to float for long periods of time which makes it easy for players to stay alive because they can float around and reach the stage instead of falling off and dying like other characters. The items that come in the barrels are also very helpful because they can easily knock other opponents off of the stage and win you some matches against good opponents. I think that what makes this game fun to play is that it is easy to learn, yet challenging enough to entertain you for long periods of time and there are a lot of different ways that you can attack the other opponents. It's also really fun because you are able to play against up to three other people at once which can provide for hours of fun and excitement.Sun, 25 Feb 2007 17:19:09 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1496&iddiary=3151Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Sun, 25 Feb 2007 17:06:26https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1496Playing this game against other players makes the game play experience better. It is easy to beat the game on the hardest level once you become skilled enough, but playing against another person who is also good is much more challenging and fun. I like playing really hard opponents as often as I can, because I like to see if i can adapt to what they do and beat them. I like to see if i can learn new strategies from other players by playing against them and watching how they play. I have learned many new techniques that i did not know about from playing against other people. I might not win the first time, but against most people after i have played them a couple of times i can come up with a strategy to beat them.Sun, 25 Feb 2007 17:06:26 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1496&iddiary=3150Tekken 5 (PS2) - Sat, 10 Feb 2007 01:20:31https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1297The game creates conflict in a simple way. Either beat your opponent or be beaten. The whole point of the game is to beat all your opponents on the way to becomong the best fighter in the world. It would not make sense to not have to fight and beat people to beat the game. Players fight against eachother to face their next opponent. If players do not fight against eachother there is no point in playing this game. The game keep players interested with new characters with different abilities. Also players must defeat the game with all characters to unlock all the secrets of the game. The game was not frustrating, but I would change parts of the game. I would add more expansive levels and allow players to fight on all parts of the level. This game did not give me any ideas for my project becasue I do not want to make a fighting game. This game is not very complex. Players can pick up the controller and learn to play pretty easyily. I responded well to the reward structure. I like having to beat the game with all the characters becasue it is more difficult to defeat it with some characters than it is others. I experienced flow while playing, mainly because of the story line of the game. The only social interaction with other players is when you play against each other and try to beat each other. The cutscenes were very good, but they are only used when you beat the game with a character to show his or her story.Sat, 10 Feb 2007 01:20:31 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1297&iddiary=2758Tekken 5 (PS2) - Sat, 10 Feb 2007 01:07:38https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1297The characters in this game are all unique and interesting. Some are new characters to the series while others are from past versions of the game. Most of them are connected to one or more other characters in the game. The game's story is interesting. It is fun to see how characters are related and how one person's story helps players understand other characters better. The gameplay is pretty simple, but there is still some aspect of strategy. It's not a game where players can win by just mashing buttons together. Players have to actually know how to play, but learning to play is pretty simple. This game was not too innovative to me in terms of gameplay. The graphics were a lot better and the fighting was a lot smoother than previous versions, but in the end it is just a better version of the same game with newer characters and better graphics. This is a good game because it is fun to pick up and play. You get to pick from a variety of characters with different attacks and beat up on people. Level design seemed pretty simple, but with good detail.Sat, 10 Feb 2007 01:07:38 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1297&iddiary=2755Goldeneye 007 (N64) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 16:26:56https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1068This game keeps players interested with violence and shooting and action. People play this game soley for the action and the abiltity to kill people. I would add more weapons like the throwing knives that are fun to use. I would also add some voice-overs in one player mode. I do not think this game is frustrating at all unless you are playing multiplayer and keep getting killed by the same person. This game gives me ideas for a shoting game, but i do not know if it would be possible to make a game as good as Goldeneye, i doubt it. This game is not complex for players that can solve simple problems. It might be difficult for little kids. I did not think there really was a reward structure, except that new levels have new weapons, and I liked that. I experienced flow because the story line goes well with the gameplay. This game is good for social interaction, especailly multiplayer. it is a good excuse to get together with friends and kill eachother. It is very fun to play with others, and even for others to watch people play.Wed, 31 Jan 2007 16:26:56 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1068&iddiary=2294Goldeneye 007 (N64) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 16:18:36https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1068The characters in the game are very interesting. They range from the main character, James Bond, to pretty much anything else you can think of. There are villians, scientists, henchmen, and a variety of other characters. The game's story is pretty simple, yet intersting. I like the progression of the game because as the game gets more into the story, 007 gets better weapons to deal with his enemies. I think the gameplay is very good, especially being a game for the Nintendo 64. I have played other games on consoles like the Playstation 2 where the gameplay is nowhere near the level of Goldeneye. I like the fact that in certain situations you can shoot barrels to kill multiple enemies and when there is an explosion it actualy hurts people that are too close to it. This is a good game because of how it keeps the players wanting to play because of the ability to kill people, I think. The level design seems kind of cionfusing in the beginning, but as you play you learn how to navigate through the levels better. The game creates conflict in a simple way. You have to kill or be killed. If you do not kill your enemies they will kill you and the game will be over. If you want to play you have to kill people, although it is polssible to get passed many parts of the game without killing all the enemies.Wed, 31 Jan 2007 16:18:36 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1068&iddiary=2290Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 21:41:12https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=864As I am playing this game I notice that there is not much i would change except for a couple things. First I would make the graphics better. The graphics on the game are not bad, but I think they could be much better, especially compared to other games I have played. Also I would make the environments a little more interactive. For example, instead of only being able to go into certain homes and other places I would make all of the environment accessible to the player. This game gives me some ideas to make my own game, but I do not think the ideas I get from this game are appropriate for a game for class. This games gives me ideas of violence and destruction that some poeple might not like or agree with. This game is not complex in terms of gameplay, but at times it can be hard to learn your way around the cities and find the best and quickest ways around. I like the reward structure in the game because as you use certain waepons or vehicles more often, your skill with that item increases. This is good because it lets you become stronger throughout the game and also it is challenging to get all your upgrades all the way up. I did experience flow while playing this game, but that was due to the storyline and character progression. This game is not meant for multiple players but there is a multiplayer aspect. At certain times or in certain places you can have two players playing at the same time, but the other player's abilities are limited compared to the main player. The use of cutscenes in this game is mainly to entertain the player through comedy and storyline, but the graphics are not very good.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 21:41:12 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=864&iddiary=1916Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 20:11:06https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=864The characters in this game are some of the best I have seen. Although much of the game and its characters is about violence and destruction, the characters have thoughts and feeelings that many of the people who play the game also feel. The game's story and progression is good too. You start off as a man who returns home after the death of his mother and you end up the boss of San Andreas. Along the way you meet many interesting characters, commit crimes, and do pretty much whatever you want, as long as you do not get caught. The gameplay is not that great, but most of the people that play this game do not worry about that. The game is more about entertainment through subtle nuances rather than gameplay, but it is still very fun. The best innovation in San Andreas is the ability to swim. I used to hate falling in th ewater in previous games and drowning, especiallly if I have not saved in a while because I have to do it all over again. The game creates conflict by challenging the player to commit certain tasks while putting obstacles in their way. The game keeps players interested by throwing a barrage of missions and other tasks to complete throughout the game.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 20:11:06 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=864&iddiary=1913Madden NFL Football 2007 (PS2) - Sun, 14 Jan 2007 04:46:31https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=647Madden is by far the best football game on the market, but there are a few changes I would make. First I would take away the QB Vision. It was a neat idea, but in the end it makes things too complicated (especially for new players). Also I would make the gang tackling more realistic (which I think is more realistic on the X Box 360 and PS3, so I guess problem solved for now). I would also add little tweaks to the blocking game because a lot of times the linemen do not block people. Even those that are right in front of them. The one complex thing about this game is passing on offense. You have to read the coverage, decinde where to throw the ball, make a good throw, and hope that it is caught, all while being chased by the defense. Running is pretty simple, just run to the open space where there are less defenders, as is defense, tackle the guy with the ball. Madden is a great gae to play with others because even those who are not playing can enjoy the game. They watch how the players play and scrutinize them if they make a mistake. It is one of my favorite games because I love football and Madden is currently the most realistic of all football games that I have played. Right now I am playing a season with the San Francisco 49ers. I chose them because I am from San Francisco and I want to see the Niners be good again. The gameplay is very realistic and I like how players can progress (or regress) throughout the season. The only compplaints I really have about the game are that sometimes when you are on defense and you run into someone with the ball, you just go right past them. This aslo happens sometimes when trying to sack the quarterback. You hit him before he is about to throw or while he is throwing and nothing happens. He gets his pass off as he would if he had not been hit. This game creates conflict based on your success. There is conflict every play when you hike the ball between the players (in the game), but the conflict only falls upon you when you are doing bad. I feel there is no conflict when you are scoring touchdowns because there is nothing negative happening. This game tries to keep players interested because people play against eachother all the time to see who is better and also people keep playing by themselves to get better for other human opponents and to see if they can get better stats in their next game than they did in their previous game.Sun, 14 Jan 2007 04:37:34 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=647&iddiary=1486
