The design remained beautiful, and the final boss was just too dificult. I can get almost to the end without dying, however, its not very exciting after many passes. I find that there are quite distinct patterns, which means that if i really practice carefully, i can beat it. At this point, Im just a little discouraged. That is all.Sat, 10 Feb 2007 00:47:37 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1284&iddiary=2752Contra III: The Alien Wars (SNES) - Fri, 09 Feb 2007 22:13:02https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1284Contra 3 was first introduced to me in 2003, by a friend of mine who was obcessed with playing extremely hard video games. He heard about the Contra series' legandary dificulty, and so he spent the next two months beating it on an emulator on his computer. Towards the end of this mission of his, I began to play as well. It was very hard, and unfortunaltey my keyboard just was not up to the rapid button presses. Now with a new keyboard, i can play competently as well. Heres what happened today. It always takes a while to get used to the controls again, contra gives no opportunity to become accoustemed to the button scheme. Right from the beginning the player finds enemies comming from behind him, from angles, and flying as well. In order to beat the first level, the player must get every powerup and use them to their full abilities to be able to play at a somewhat casual response rate. None of the dificulty can be blamed on the controls however, because the eight degrees of fire are not strictly limiting: the bullets fan between directions nicely. The player must be very precise, because the size of the charicter is so large, reactions cannot afford to be imprecise. I am still stuck on the first level, but I swear ill get past it soon.Fri, 09 Feb 2007 22:13:02 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1284&iddiary=2733Katamari Damacy (PS2) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 23:49:58https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1111I finally beat my moon size goal of 130km at 148.35! Hooray! The suspense is so high only because time will feel truly wasted if I do not beat my previous size. Its funny how that works, after a time in certain video games, the suspense comes only from the negative possibility that all your time spent has been for nothing. When doing something the size of the moon, a new strategy comes into play towards the end, and that is the "where is everything" phaze. Its important to stay near the center, however, its important to remember that new items are generated out in the ocean after your katamari reaches a certain size. This time, i was very aware of my position the whole time, and never found myself rolling in a direction without an object infront of me to pick up. Overall, A serious sense of accomplishment comes allong with picking up every item in the world, and after gathering every cloud in the sky, I felt pretty good.Wed, 31 Jan 2007 23:49:58 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1111&iddiary=2404Katamari Damacy (PS2) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 20:04:31https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1111Ahh, katamari, the playfull hallucination of strategy games. When I started this game, it was pretty dificult to figure out the conrolls. After a while, i realised the two joysticks were two vector-potentials, and they were added together for each joystick position. Soon, the controls became intuitive, and I was able to look at strategy instead of simple movement. My recent play of the game was an attempt to get over 130m for my moon. (moon level, obviously.) Ive come to realise that there are three groupings of item types to get in the game. Items that are placed randomly, those placed in a row or circle, (for a run of one type) or in large bunches, for newfound-size discoveries. Katamari definitely rewards the player for finding places accessible only at certain sizes. Once in these places, a cluster of items just small enough to be picked up exists, usually increasing the players size by 10 to 20 percent. These seem to be the key to quick growth, and once I found the order of these places, beating the levels was very easy.Wed, 31 Jan 2007 20:04:31 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1111&iddiary=2389Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Tue, 23 Jan 2007 21:29:09https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=891I began playing this game last year, and became addicted to it for a while. It is SO good to beat on your friends with a cute little charicter, and if you're really loyal, you can do so with your favorite franchise charicter. As one can expect, I started out with kirby. And while people say kirby is cheap, he is one of the most fun to play, especially when floating over some above the abyss, and then drill kicking them down for the instant kill. After a while, I transfered to Captain Falcon, and then to Ness. Ness is the ultimate heavy hitter, once you get past his slow and strange attacks. Tonight, however, my friends and I were playing with some real pros, so i needed trusty kirby to stand a chance. The name is so appropriate, it seems the more you smash the buttons, (not randomly, mind you) the better you play. The ultimate moment in our match was when Captain falcon and Mario were falling past the edge of the level. Falcon was lower than mario, and they looked like they were both going to die. But the Falcon player does the "bomb in the pocket" move, and shoots up, grabs mario, hits him, then on the release backflip, just barely reaches the edge of the level and grabs on. Crazyness, ive never seen a ledge grab from the end of that move. Score one for falcon. After a series of "stock" games, we decided a more all-out feel was in order, and we played a coupple 2 minuite "time" games, and one of them we had a 4 way sudden death. That was the craziest end, because no one thinks about sudden death, and then to suddenly be thrown in there with the three others is nuts. Anyway, my thumbs hurt now, so i stopped. I feel good.Tue, 23 Jan 2007 21:29:09 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=891&iddiary=1971Final Fantasy XII (PS2) - Tue, 23 Jan 2007 21:13:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=890This is my first log for this game, and for this website in general, but here goes. I have been a final fantasy fan since 1998 when I planed to go out and buy the first game for my parent's new computer. At the game store, a large display of a guy with a huge sword and spikey hair caut my eye. I didn't even know what an RPG was at that time. Since then, ive gone back and played all of the final fantasys, so I was not going to pass up 12. I ordered it online, and was ready for a rediculously epic game, as it appeared in the solely FMV tv commercials. Once i started playing, I was in love. Personally, I love the gameplay of FF games so much, i wouldent have minded a simple re-churning of the same formula. Which, in some respects, is what 12 is. However, there are a few advances such as the gambits, same-screen battles, and camera movement that really put 12 into the "excelent FF" catagory. But this is not a review, its a log. Since I got this game in November, ive been playing regularly, although I cant tell how long for sure, because I left the game clock running overnight a few forgetfull times, and my time is at 50 hours although I know its probably half that. Anyway, im at level 30 or so, and doing some side quests before I go into archadia to the labratories where I finally get to meet this game's Cid. (I cant wait. When will he be a playable charicter again? Cid always was the best.) I just beat the Earth Tyrant in the Dalmasca Westerlands, and that was tough. In fact, all the serious boss fights in this game are really hard. I died the first time because my strategy was off, and I didn't cast Haste/Protect/regen etc before the fight. The seccond time was close, i think my charicters were a little under-level. I didn't really get anything for beating him, which was kind of lame. Well, 17 ap, but I could have gotten that in a 10th the time it took to beat him. Thats just one more thing done though, and everyone knows the best part of playing final fantasy games is not beating the game, its killing everything there is to be killed. I did some hunts earlier, and this off-track rampaging is getting a little monotonous, so i think ill continue the storyline... Right now.Tue, 23 Jan 2007 21:13:51 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=890&iddiary=1970
