While playing the game I realized that I work better under pressure because it is easier for me to match three jewels. I loved the exhilaration that came with feeling like there was no time left. It was like a feeling of mischief, but with excitement. I kept progressing throughout the whole game and reaching very high scores. I liked action better than the classic Bejeweled. The game was really interesting to play because I was trying to go as fast as I could without losing concentration and determination. I never seemed to lose interest in the game; there was always something to look forward to. The game progression for action was really fun because once I met a certain requirement I would move on to the next level where the time ran out faster and I had less time to find the matching jewels. Overall the game progression went really well and it was not boring. My interactions with other players was also what made this game more fun because I was able to get input from my bystanders when I couldn’t find any more moves. The flow while playing seemed and was endless. DESIGN- Bejeweled carries very well developed elements because of the techniques the player has to find and enhance. Through the game the player has to recognize the time and matching jewels all at the same time making it very challenging. I really like the sound effects of Bejeweled because it makes the player feel like they are part of the world which makes the game more involving. The design elements that make this a good game are the new techniques that have been added and different types of ways to play Bejeweled. For the action part of Bejeweled the game is more challenging because the player is being timed. When the player stops making moves the time runs out faster making the player feel under pressure which makes everything more complicated. Being under pressure causes me to have a hard time seeing the matches between the jewels meaning that my time runs out fast. The game creates conflict between the player and time because the player is competing with time and pressure. The game also creates conflict by making the player feel pressured and making it harder for the player to make the next move. Having such a challenge makes me want to keep beating time and beat my score. The game keeps me interested because I love the feeling of playing under pressure. I really like the way the game’s setting is designed because it makes me feel like I am part of the world. I like going through the wrap in the game because it makes me feel like I am in a ride which makes the next level more exciting. The idea of moving from one planet to the next also makes the game interesting because it seems to add some sort of story behind to the game. The reward structure of the game was moving on to the next level and gaining extra points making my score one of the high scores. I wouldn’t change anything about the game because I really had fun playing it and I never lost interest. Overall Bejeweled is addicting!Mon, 17 Mar 2008 21:57:01 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3229&iddiary=6075Bejeweled 2 (PC) - Mon, 17 Mar 2008 20:27:52https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3228Gamelog Entry #1 SUMMARY- For my gameplay I decided to play Bejeweled 2. I was able to pick between action, puzzle, endless and classic. Within those I picked to play classic because it was the original one. Overall it was really exciting because I was entertained throughout the whole game and I never lost interest. GAMEPLAY- My emotional state while playing the game was anticipation. I couldn’t wait to get to the next level and see the new ways to play Bejeweled. All I wanted to do was to keep playing the game over and over again. All I kept thinking about was beating my score; technically I was competing against myself. Seeing that there really aren’t any characters in the game besides the jewels I would have to say that the jewels are interesting characters. I really like the sound the jewels make when they move down. I think that the character of the jewel was well emphasized and it makes the game more fun when the items are used in a unique way. Since Bejeweled doesn’t necessarily have a game narrative I really do like the levels. Each time the game advances it becomes a bit more difficult and exciting to play. I like how Bejeweled has different options on how to play the game such as a puzzle, action, endless and classic. Having options allows the player to have opportunities and not lose interest in the game. Bejeweled was really fun to play because I always had something to do. All I wanted was to keep playing because I wanted to beat my own score and solve the puzzles. I also had the ability to switch between categories which made the game exhilarating. The game was really interesting to play because of all the new additions that have been added. I received very good social interactions because my friends kept trying to help me solve the puzzle. I think that Bejeweled is a great game to play with friends. Mon, 17 Mar 2008 20:27:52 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3228&iddiary=6074Donkey Kong 64 (N64) - Sun, 16 Mar 2008 22:27:30https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3227Game Entry #2 GAMEPLAY- In my second gameplay experience my emotion was excitement. I was playing a battle game against someone else. I really like games that involve competition because it makes the game more interesting and exciting to play. In the battle games both players are allowed to choose the character that they want to be. I like being able to choose my character but I wish I was able to create my own character with the characteristics I choose. The storyline of this gameplay was different from the first gameplay because it was a battle between two opponents. Within this gameplay the results varied because the players didn’t know who was going to win. The narrative progression was based on the layers fighting against each other and seeing who the best was. At first the storyline is fun but after playing for too long the game because boring because both players get tired of trying to win. The battle games are the best games the player is allowed to interact with other players making the game more interesting. The interaction between my opponent was competition because we were both trying to win. In the end we both shared victories and losses that made the game fun and interesting. DESIGN- An element that I liked of the game was being able to get lives fast. Gaining lives was not as challenging as it is in other games. One thing I didn’t understand about the game was what the other items were used for. All I know is that I kept collecting them. The good design element of this game was the way the characters would move. I liked their fighting moves because since the characters are monkeys they use their tails. The bad element design was the camera angle. There were points in the game where I couldn’t see where the character was going or who was attacking me. In the battle game there aren’t any levels because the player versus their opponent. The only difficulty in this game is finding our target and being able to fight them. The game isn’t much of a challenge instead it is tedious because it takes too long to destroy your opponent. The game provides the challenge of looking for new lives throughout the setting of the battle. Fighting with your opponent is what keeps the game interesting because it is fun to see each other fight. The competition is what keeps the player going in this game. The game creates conflict between the player and its opponent. By providing lives makes it harder to have a winner. The tone of the gameworld is jungle. This tone is set through the trees and water in the middle of the room. In the setting there are vines hanging from the ceiling and most of the walls look ancient. Throughout the game I didn’t really understand the reward structure because I didn’t know how to use the items against my opponent. The only reward that I did like was being able to beat my opponent.Sun, 16 Mar 2008 22:27:30 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3227&iddiary=6073Donkey Kong 64 (N64) - Sun, 16 Mar 2008 20:17:43https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3226Gamelog Entry #1 SUMMARY- For my gameplay I decided to play Donkey Kong 64. Within this game the player can battle other opponents or find the missing items in order to solve the mystery. I decided to play solve the mystery because it has a storyline which makes it fun to look for the missing items in all of the different little islands. Each island has different obstacles that the player has to face making the game more challenging. GAMEPLAY- My emotional state while playing the game went from interesting to boring. After trying to figure out where all the missing items were and not being able to find them, I found myself frustrated. The storyline was too restricting for me and there were only certain things I could do. Most of the game I spent my time wondering around the different islands. One of the things that I did like was being able to switch characters whenever I pleased. Even though I didn’t switch characters for wise reasons, it was nice to have a change when I got tired of the character I was. Something I didn’t like about my characters was that they were very slow which made it complicated to get my items at a fast pace. At first my storyline seemed very interesting but the more I played the less interest I had. The storyline became very tedious because it was going slow and I couldn’t find the items. Overall everything that occurred in the game felt repetitive and all I wanted was to stop playing. Not being able to create my storyline and having to follow one makes everything boring. I lost interest in the game because couldn’t find the items, I was restricted and I didn’t have any long term goals. The game seemed to be overwhelming. While playing the game I had bystanders who also became tedious with the game and tried to help but realized that it has more complicated than it looked. There was a point in the game where I was trying to open the gate, to get one of the golden bananas, but in order to open the gate I had to push a button that only gave me eight seconds to run across. Each time I tried it I never made it which made me frustrated. I guess Donkey Kong is about technique.Sun, 16 Mar 2008 20:17:43 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3226&iddiary=6072The Sims 2 (PC) - Tue, 04 Mar 2008 19:04:45https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2982GAMELOG ENTRY #2 GAMEPLAY- During my second gameplay experience my emotional state was enjoyment. I played with a different family where I again set goals for myself and met my sims aspirations. In this gameplay the storyline was interesting because I had my sims have affairs and have kids from sims that were not their husbands. Overall the storyline was really fun to watch and create. My thoughts based on the characters of my game were good. The only thing I would want is for my teenage sims to be able to have kids; that would make the game even more dramatic. The game was really interesting to play because I was able to be spontaneous with my sims. I was able to change their lives with simple decisions I would make. It is fun to watch my sims lives change in an instant. I also liked the story because I was able to get two of my sims become good friends. I had been working on them being friends but they never seemed to get along until recently during my second gameplay. Knowing that I control my sims’ lives is satisfying to know. Usually every time I play the sims I think about the book 1984 by George Orwell because I Big Brother to my sims. Even though that sounds creepy it still really fun to unfold my sims’s lives and create the storyline. In this gameplay experience I went deep into the magic circle because I felt really connected to the game and part of my sims world. This gameplay experience was the best. DESIGN- The elements I really enjoy of the sims is the ability of freewill. Usually, when I am playing The Sims 2 I don’t feel limited by the game. Another element I take pleasure in is being able to be spontaneous with the storyline and creation of my sims. Design elements that make The Sims 2 a good game is how realistic the game feels. The design of the game makes player feel like they are part of The Sims 2 world because of how great the characteristics of the sims are and how great the setting is. Most of the interactions between the sims are based on real life interactions that people go through every day. The design elements that make The Sims 2 a bad game is not being able to get teenage sims pregnant. Another element I dislike is not being able to visit a neighbor in a different lot. The challenges that the game provides depend on the player. For example, the player can decide what the goals for the game should be and what the storyline will be. The player can also set long-term goals for the sim like reaching the top level of the sim’s career and so forth. Each goal or challenge depends on the player. Usually, the player can create social conflict between its sims by causing arguments or by getting caught having a affair. It seems as if the player creates conflict instead of the game providing it. The Sims 2 keeps the player interested by always providing something new to do. I never seem to get bored of the game because I am always setting goals for myself and trying to meet my sims aspirations. The game always keeps me interested because I am able to create as much drama as I want between my sims without actually having that drama in my life. The Sims 2 provides the player plenty of social interactions with other sim players because there is a lot to discuss based on how different each players experience was and how they have created their own sim storylines. It is really fun and interesting to know what other sim players do with their neighbors and sims. Overall the reward structure for The Sims 2 s decent. Even though there not might be an exact reward, it is the needs and pleasure of the player that are rewarded.Tue, 04 Mar 2008 19:04:45 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2982&iddiary=5616The Sims 2 (PC) - Tue, 04 Mar 2008 01:23:32https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2969Gamelog Entry #1 SUMMARY- For my gameplay I decided to play the Sims 2. Within this game the player is allowed to control the lives of their Sims and decided what their destinies in life will be. Most of those destinies are based on marriage, sexual attraction, jobs and family. In gameplay I decided to create drama within my Sims. I decided to make one of my Sims make-out with a sim that was not her husband and boy did that get out of hand. GAMEPLAY- My emotional state while playing the game was enthusiastic. Throughout my gameplay process I was trying to find a way to create drama for my Sims so while I was playing I kept thinking about scenarios that would create this enthusiasm I felt in me. Moreover I was very pleased because everything I was doing was going my way and I was able to accomplish all the goals I had set for my sims. My characters in the game were pleased because I was meeting their aspiration goals and their needs. Even though I hurt some of the sims during my gameplay the process of deciding their life decisions was really fun. Since I am the one who creates the storyline for my game I was pleased with the outcome. One of the events I created was getting my sim married. The only problem I faced with getting her married was that she was already engaged to a different sim so in order to get her married I had to have her break up with her other boyfriend in order to marry the new one. I had to figure out a way to make them break-up. What I did in order for them to break-up was have her cheat on him. My storyline turned out just the way I planned. In the end the game turned out to be a very interesting gameplay. While playing the game I had bystanders who thought that the plot of my gameplay was really fun and interesting to watch. Every time I play my sims my friends usually like to surround me in order to see what I come up with next. Tue, 04 Mar 2008 01:23:32 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2969&iddiary=5593Mario Party (N64) - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 00:55:41https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2769Gameplay- When playing the second round I had mixed emotions. At first I was excited to start a new game so that I could try to win all of the multi-player games. As I started playing I got frustrated because I was having trouble controlling my character. As time progressed my mood went back to excitement because I was ahead of my opponents. I never really settled for an emotion when playing the game. I liked the second round better than the first round because I had more emotion while playing. I was more focused or in other words within the magic circle. Within this part of the game the characters playing were Mario, Luigi, Peach and DK. For the second round I decided to be Mario because I thought it would be interesting to experience the gameplay through a different character. Even though the character of the game is not the reason why the player is good, being Mario made me feel like I could win and confront every obstacle in my way. The narrative progression was more intriguing the second time because the location of the game was in Bowser World where the players faced more challenges. Having the challenges enhanced the game because it made the players look forward to overcoming the obstacles and moving on to the next round. It seemed as if the more challenges the more interactive the players were amongst each other because we were all trying to win. The game was really fun to play because there were a lot of mistakes the players would make which would cause them to either lose or gain coins. Going through the whole game process was really fun but challenging. The interactions amongst the players mostly consisted of conflict because there was a lot of frustration, laughing and arguing going on. Overall the interactions were well off. Design- For Mario Party being a classic game the overall design was decent. The good design element was the board game idea. I really liked playing in different worlds. It was nice going from one dimension to the next. I also liked the way the way there was more than one goal in the game which made more interesting. The only part of Mario Party I didn’t like was waiting for the players to hit the dice and go around. I also didn’t like the fact the player was so restricted within the board game and the mini games. There wasn’t much freedom for the player. Overall every other part of the game was fun and I never seemed to get bored. The challenges that the game provided were based on the board game and the mini games within the game. The conflicts were also the other players because we were all competing for the same thing. I really didn’t think there were levels within the game because each game was different. The challenges that the game provides are based on the amount of stars and coins the player accumulates throughout the game. The other challenges the game provides are the mini games because that is when all the players come together and compete for first place. Throughout the game the player remains interested because there is always something to do and because there are a lot of different games within one game. It is the same process but always something different. The game also provides plenty of social interaction amongst the players because the players are competing and laughing at the silly things they do with their characters.Thu, 21 Feb 2008 00:55:41 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2769&iddiary=5295Mario Party (N64) - Wed, 20 Feb 2008 22:24:46https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2752Summary- Mario Party 2 is a game designed for either multi-players or one player versus the computer. Within the game the players play within a board game looking platform. In the board game the players are required to hit a dice and walk the number of spaces the on the dice number. The goal of the game is to acquire the golden star and get as many coins as possible. Moreover the players also play battle games at the end of each round where the winner receives ten coins. Gameplay- My emotional state while playing Mari Party 2 was excitement because I was playing with multiple people and we were all trying to compete with each other. There were times in the game when I was also very nervous because I was afraid I was not going to be able to make it through the multi-player games. It would be easier to say that my emotional state kept changing through the entire game process because there were always different situations where I was either winning or losing. I didn’t really like the characters within Mario Party 2 because there wasn’t much variety. The female character was only Peach and the rest were all male characters. I really wished that Toad or Toadette could have been some of the characters. My character was Peach. There were times when I would get frustrated with character because she wouldn’t cooperate with the actions I wanted her to do. Even though the goal of the game was clear the outcomes were random. Most of the challenges that I faced were determined by the difficulty of the game and the strength of my opponent and the computer. The narrative of the game was pretty simple because it went from round one where all the players rolled the dice to a multi-player game and then back again to the board game. Overall the game was really fun to play because it kept me interested and interconnected with the narrative and gameplay. My thoughts throughout most of the game were I want to win I have to win!Wed, 20 Feb 2008 22:24:46 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2752&iddiary=5182The Sims 2 (PC) - Sat, 09 Feb 2008 01:09:35https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2504Game Log Entry #2 GAMEPLAY- During the second part of my gameplay I was able to get my sim engaged and married. My feelings while playing the sims were based on the accomplishments I made. Most of the time I was playing, my sim was enjoying her life while in the process of getting engaged ad having a huge wedding ceremony. I threw an excellent wedding party that reached a high score of roof raiser. Moreover I was pleased with my characters in the game because they were all happy. The social interactions I had with other players were very interesting because they were also very interested in the game plot. My audience loved the drama I created within my sims because there was always something exciting going on and the game was never boring. The game was really fun to play because I was able to interact with people while playing and progress to different parts of my sims lives. DESIGN- The design of the game is really fascinating because the player is allowed to expand with the characters of the game. There are times when it seems as if there aren’t many limitations between the player and the life of the sims. The game brings the player plenty of opportunity and freedom. The Sims 2 does not contain levels, but in order to see progression in the game the player sets goals for him or herself. The challenges the game provides are based on the aspirations and wants of the sims and how well the player can accomplish those aspirations. The game keeps the player interested because there is always a challenge within all the different families. The player gets to create families and move them into homes, find them jobs and friends to interact with. As the game progresses the community keeps growing and new sims are born; it is a never ending cycle. I am very pleased with the game and there is nothing I would change about the way the game is set for now. The reward structure of the Sims 2 is very interesting because it always varies and there are always things to unlock and look forward to. The Sims 2 is an interactive game that keeps the player wanting more.Sat, 09 Feb 2008 01:09:35 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2504&iddiary=4778The Sims 2 (PC) - Fri, 08 Feb 2008 23:09:09https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2496SUMMARY- In the Sims 2 the player controls the lives of the characters by keeping them happy and fulfilling their aspirations. The goal of the game is basically in the hands of the player because the player can either decide to promote their sim or keeping them healthy by fulfilling their needs. GAMEPLAY- While playing the game I was very intrigued because I was trying to get my sim promoted and engaged to another sim. I was also causing a lot of drama within my different families. Having power over the sims is really exciting because it is like having my own little world and I get to control what happens and what doesn’t. I like all the characters within my game because I created all of them and I decided what their personalities should be. The storyline of my gameplay was based on the actions that I took with my sims. Overall I liked the storyline because I was able to get my sim promoted in her music career and I was able to make her fall in love; now all I need to do is get her engaged. The game was very interesting to play because there was a lot going on within my family. Now my family has different generations from the parents all the way down to the grandchildren. I really liked the overall gameplay because I accomplished a lot and gained a lot of rewards. Knowing that my sims lives are advancing to better future in the game makes me happy!Fri, 08 Feb 2008 23:09:09 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2496&iddiary=4708
