aelin's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=492Bust-A-Move Ghost (PSP) - Tue, 04 Mar 2008 00:05:43https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2971GAMEPLAY: In the next 45 mintues I tried all the different puzzles. My favorite one was the mix'em up puzzle where the colored balls would change colors randomly. I liked it the best because it made the game even more challenging. My least favorite was the ghost puzzle because it was kind of like the original puzzles so it wan't much of a difference. The hardest puzzle was the seesaw puzzle where the screen was like the seesaw and the balls were the balances. This puzzle made me the most frustrated just because I kept on losing. The game was still fun because I was able to try an array of puzzles. It gave the game flavor. Even though I tried over and over again the game is still hard and challenging. This is what makes me want to keep playing the game so I can try to get better at it. DESIGN: The levels on this game is good because when the levels the go up, the balls are arranged in a more difficult way and sometimes there will be more balls. The higher levels are definently more challenging. The game keeps the player interesting by its levels and various puzzles to choose from. The player may not like one of the puzzles but they have several others to choose to play. The differnt special balls also makes the game more interesting just because they can help the player but might also disadvantage the player. The game can be frustrating because it is a game that is easy to learn but hard to master. It takes a lot of tries to really get used to it, but that doesn't mean that you're good at it. The frustrating part may be a good thing because then it shows that the game is challenging and I urge the player to try over again. However, it can mean a bad thing because the player might keep losing and will not be interesting in the game anymore because the player has not recieved any reward. Tue, 04 Mar 2008 00:05:43 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2971&iddiary=5586Bust-A-Move Ghost (PSP) - Mon, 03 Mar 2008 23:21:28https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2971SUMMARY: Bust-A-Move Ghost is a simple game consisted of little colored balls and various puzzles. In the game, the player is presented different set ups of colored balls where they shoot their own little balls. The point of the game is to match the balls and get rid of all of them before they reach a red line toward the bottom of the screen. GAMEPLAY: The characters in this game are very cute and cuddy looking. I was able to choose which character I wanted to be. The game is very colorful and has a fun-based feel. Even the music is happy and up-beat. The game is not hard to learn but can be difficult at times. This is what makes it challenging. I had to figure out where I wanted to shoot the ball and how to aim it in order to get rid of the other balls. The game was fun for me to play just because of the cuteness and because it was challenging. It's like one of those games that you can play over and over again, such as solitaire. The game doesn't really have a story because it's just different puzzles. It was interesting to play because different levels will present special balls beside the colored ones. Some of the special balls make the game easier and some of them make them harder. The music also is interesting because the closer the balls get to the red line, the faster the music gets. When the music gets faster I start to panick because I know that I need to act fast and smart to beat the game before the balls reach the red line. Mon, 03 Mar 2008 23:21:28 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2971&iddiary=5585Katamari Damacy (PS2) - Wed, 20 Feb 2008 23:12:11https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2758GAMEPLAY: This time I made Cancer! It was really challenging because I didn't pick up enough crabs the first time to make the constellation. It took me three tries to get enough crabs. Even though it was hard, it was still really fun and I felt accomplished when I made Cancer. The game is still fun even though I'm doing the same thing over and over again. It's good that you need to make the ball a certain size in order to make a star because then it makes the game harder. I love the fact that as the ball gets bigger, I can see more of the world I'm in. The best part is when the ball is really big and you can start collecting buildings and bridges. The game is very creative in the way the worlds are laid out. You first start in a small area and then find yourself crossing oceans. DESIGN: The levels in this game are planned out well because they do get harder and harder. You must meet the right number of objects or size of the ball in a certain amount of time in order to successfully make a star or constellation. This ties into the challenges of the game. Because you have a limited time to pick up objects, it makes the game more challenging. Another challenge in the game is when the ball is just starting out, you have to watch out for bigger moving objects such as rats. If you bump into these bigger moving objects, you will bounce off of it and some of the objects you picked up will fall off the ball. The reward structure in the game is good because the player wants to beat the levels to complete the starry sky. It feels good when you've beat a really hard level and you also have a new star or constellation to show for your hard work. The game keeps the player interesting by allowing the prince to enter different worlds on Earth. The variety of objects and world space are very creative and interesting. Running over and picking up people are fun and funny to the player, especially because the people scream and yell.Wed, 20 Feb 2008 23:12:11 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2758&iddiary=5212Katamari Damacy (PS2) - Wed, 20 Feb 2008 22:48:53https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2758SUMMARY: Katamari Damacy is a third-person video game. The main character, the Prince, has to rebuild stars and constellations for his father, the King of All Cosmos . The prince goes through different places on Earth, picking up various objects with a small ball which then becomes a star. GAMEPLAY: Katamari Damacy is really cute but also kind of strange because of the way that the King of All Cosmos talks. At first I didn't really know what to do, but then it was pretty self-explainatory when things started to stick to the ball. I really enjoyed how you can pick up just about anything, even animals! The game can be funny too because when you pick up animals or humans, they make a noise. The different places on Earth are interesting because the ground isn't just one level but you can go up on hills and tables. I really liked how all the worlds are always so colorful and how the objects usually pertain to the world you are in. Sometimes I will find new routes and rooms as the ball gets larger. The story of the game is cool because I really like stars and when I complete a level and make a star or constellation, I feel like I am making my own little world. Wed, 20 Feb 2008 22:48:53 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2758&iddiary=5189Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (360) - Wed, 06 Feb 2008 21:09:44https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2346GAMEPLAY: In the next 45 minutes I am assigned to find one of the bad guys (leader). The game continues to show life like situation in a war. For example, I would check my corners, hide behind walls, duck and shoot. I've died many times because of grenades being thrown at me which I could have thrown back. Because I died so many times, I learn from my mistakes and now I'm doing better at taking cover and throwing grenades back at the enemy. The game is still intense, especially when an enemy comes out of nowhere. When enemies pop-up, it is important for me to be able to react quickly and aim sharply. The game is kind of gross, mainly because of the bodies laying around and the condition of some of the cities. Because the people and cities are so life-like it makes it scarier. Like I said before, the game is still intense but I feel like I'm already getting a little bit bored of it. I believe that the game is tiring because you're doing the same thing all the time, killing people. There's no real challenge, such as "bosses", in other games. In this game there are just people with the same strength. DESIGN: The elements that make this game good is that the war feeling to this game is real in our world today. Some players may know people in the war right now or may want to join the army. This game allows the player to experience the war-like feeling. The game also has missions to complete which is a good element because it gives the player a sense of accomplishment when the mission is complete. So far, there aren't really any levels. There are only different places of combat and different missions. However, the various battle places are interesting and have different feels. This game creates conflict by needing to kill the enemies before they kill you. This is one of the challenges that the player will encounter in the game. Another challenge would be to learn to be quick in movement and swift with aim. Just feeling like you're in war makes the game interesting because you will feel like you are a "hero" and taking out the bad guys. The reward structure was likable because after completing a mission you feel like you've done something to help your nation. The cutscenes were also interesting because it gave you a feel for all the horrible things that are happening in real life. The different scenes were very life-like and scary which caught my attention and even made me jump. Wed, 06 Feb 2008 21:09:44 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2346&iddiary=4489Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (360) - Wed, 06 Feb 2008 20:08:37https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2346SUMMARY: Call of Duty 4 is a one to four player game where you fight as a member of the U.S. forces. It is a fisrt-person shooter game equipped with various war guns and grenades. Call of Duty 4 is a part of the Call of Duty video game series. The player combats in different scenarios to complete a certain mission given to them. GAMEPLAY: Wow! This game is very dramatic, making it feel like I was really part of the game and in the game. The way the characters talk makes me feel like I'm actually a soldier and that I have to get the mission done, like it's my duty. In the beginning of the game, I mostly trained to shoot and throw grenades. The trainning was even intense because I had to move quickly and shoot quickly. It was a good start because it gave me a feel for how the game was going to be. Even the trainning was not easy so I knew that the game would not be either and it's good that the game isn't easy because it gives challenges. The story of the game was a little hard for me to follow just because I didn't know some terms. But overall, the cut scenes were very intense and scary. They really made it feel like I was part of the war that's going on today. The progression is interesting because there are certain missions and things that I have to pick up or save. When I do complete the mission I feel really accomplished and that I contributed to helping my nation. To me it felt like I was really important in the storyline because I was one the soldiers and I know that my fellow soldiers look out for me. For example, when we were esacping the sinking ship, my captian helped me onto the helicopter before I slipped off. Also, when we are in combat I need to look our for my fellow team mates too. This is what makes me feel important and strong. So far I'm really enjoying the game, maybe because this is what's really happening out in the world right now. Killing people, seeing people get shoot, and war is real at this time in our lives. And that's what makes it feel more real. Wed, 06 Feb 2008 20:08:37 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2346&iddiary=4485Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Thu, 24 Jan 2008 21:12:13https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2031GAMEPLAY: This time I played against my friend Justin. We just kept fighting each other over and over again. Justin won every game and I sucked really bad! It was much harder to play because in the first 45 minutes I played on the very easy level and this time I played Justin, whom is very good at the game. I had a lot a fun but at the same time it was very dissapointing. It was fun because Justin is my friend and we joked with each other while fighting. Sometimes he would ask me if I wanted a certain object that I liked or if I wanted him to go easier on me. It was cute and fun at the same time. Playing Justin is probably the best way to get better at the game so when I go to play the one player games it will be easier. The thing I did not like about playing with Justin was that I lost every game! I'm not used to losing so much so it made me feel bad, even if it is just a game. Other than that, it was fun chilling with Justin and fighting him. We had a lot of good laughs! DESIGN: Even though the graphics on this game is old school, the game is still fun and cute. I really like how the game gives you a choice of levels from very easy to very hard because then you can get better and better. Some challeges that the game provides are the mini challenges in between the fights where you have a certain goal to complete in a certain amount of time. The bosses are also a challenge since they are harder to defeat. It's good that there are challenges just so that the game isn't too easy to beat, resulting in a short game. This game keeps the player interested by having to defeat levels to unlock new characters. Unlocking new characters give the game a variety of players to be and fight. Also, the different objects and moves each character and perform is fun and surprising. Super Smash Brothers keep each fighting space very small just so that to defeat the other player, all you need to do is kick them off the small space. Always in fighting games you and your friends are able to bag on each other and joke around. You can also talk as if you were the character and make up silly dialogues. The reward structure for the game is pretty well done. Since the reward to beating a stage is a new character, it makes the player want to keep playing to unlock all of them. Thu, 24 Jan 2008 21:12:13 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2031&iddiary=3939Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Thu, 24 Jan 2008 20:05:23https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2031SUMMARY: Super Smash Brothers is a one to four player game. It is a melee battle game where the player(s) fight each other or an enemy. The characters you can be include a variety of Nintendo characters. The main point of the game is to beat different stages to reveal new characters. To beat an enemy you must kick him off the floating island. The player may choose a very easy to very hard level. GAMEPLAY: It was my first time playing this game so I chose the very easy level. I chose Kirby as my character. The actions and buttons weren't too hard to figure out since there were only a few buttons to use. Some of the characters, like Kirby, are really cute so I felt like I could relate to them. I liked how you can be cute and cuddly but be able to fight off bad guys. There were two things that I especially enjoyed from the game. The first is that during the battles a variety of objects appear, such as a hammer or Pikachu ball. These items were entertaining because it gave the character different attacks, switching things up a bit. I loved the hammer because it looked really funny when Kirby used it, really cute! Secondly, I enjoyed the feeling of defeating an enemy. When you defeat an enemy, he blows up and it's a satisfactory feeling. Although the game was exciting and cute, I didn't like how all you did was fight people. There were little challegen stages in between the fightings but I think that I feel this way because I was playing by myself. If I were playing someone else, it probably would have been more exciting because I could interact with him/her and just enjoy each others company. Thu, 24 Jan 2008 20:05:23 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2031&iddiary=3932Resident Evil 4 (GC) - Mon, 14 Jan 2008 01:04:13https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1736GAMEPLAY: In the next 50 minutes, more the of the story unfolds and Leon gets injected with an egg. Leon was able to interact with a non-zombie guy which was interesting because I guessed that no one else would be able to survive. I guessed wrong. There were more parts where I had to use fast reflexes to dodge or sprint, which I accomplished in a couple of tries. The game definently requires you to learn skills fast because you don't get any hint before things happen. But this is what makes the game exciting and unexpected for me. From the non-zombie guy I learned that the President's daughter, Ashely, is in the church. Leon is also introduced to a man that sells things and that you can buy things from. This game is strategy based where you need to sell and buy things according to importance and needs. The climbing, stabbing, and snippering gave me a variety of new techniques to use. DESIGN: The level for this game is hard but is a good thing because then it makes it more challenging, forcing the player to learn things quickly. It's better that the game isn't too easy because then the player can defeat it easily, making the game not worth it's money. The game challenges the player with traps and sudden attacks. It's important to move slowly when you move around just incase there's traps and fast when the zombies attack. Being careful is important along with reloadin frequently. So, the game requires you to remember what to do at different moments. Some innovative elements about the game were the injuries the player can cause to the zombies. For example, if you hit the zombie in the knee, he will fall. Another example, is that the player can blow the zombies head off. Just little things like that makes the game give you chills and the player feels like the zombies are real. The cutscenes in this game makes me think of what's going to happen later in the game. They are a bit random but they keep the game interesting. One of the cutscenes was when Leon was injected with an egg. This makes me wonder what will become of him and at the same time, it makes it scary to think of how I will get the egg out. The game is good if the player likes to get scared and if the player likes bloody and gruesome kills. So far, I'm really enjoying it, especially because I can interact with my friends on the side that are watching me play.Mon, 14 Jan 2008 01:04:13 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1736&iddiary=3480Resident Evil 4 (GC) - Sun, 13 Jan 2008 23:35:15https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1736SUMMARY: Resident Evil 4 is an RPG horror game that's a part of a series. The main character, Leon, is in search for the President's daughter in a mysterious place where he encounters and has to kill zombies along the way. GAMEPLAY: I've started to play this game about a year ago but barely remember any so the game is pretty new to me. The game went over the story but when I first start to play, there was no direction in what I was supposed to do. I basically looked around and learned to do things myself. It was really hard to get used to the controls to shoot, stab, run, reload, and aim. Because I wasn't used to the controls I kept getting killed which made me have to start from the save point. Every time a zombie attacked me I panicked and forgot which buttons were which and would get killed. Even though I had to start over after getting killed, I like it because then you HAVE TO learn the controls quickly. During the game I'm always on my toes and I have to be ready for any thing that might pop out at me and kill me. Overall, the game is scary and heart-pounding because the zombies jump at you out of no where. I get very scared at sudden movements so this game makes me scream a lot! Even though it's frightening, I enjoy it because it keeps me awake. The zombies are super scary especially because they make gross noises that creep me out. Some of them move at a faster pace than other and can throw axes at you. The variety of zombies makes the game more interesting. Even though it's a one-player game, my friends enjoy watching me because I scream a lot and apparently they thing it's funny. :]Sun, 13 Jan 2008 23:35:15 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1736&iddiary=3461
