Lizzyswain's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=880Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Wed, 05 Nov 2008 13:33:50https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3473The third time I played Super Columbine Massacre I got to the hell/doom level. I think this level was pretty ironic. Before getting into this level I was either Eric or Dylan. When I was playing one of them I had control over everything. In the Hell/doom level that was no longer the case. I found that very interesting. The Hell/doom level was very disturbing to me. They showed pictures of the boys when they were younger and pictures of their prescription medicines they were on. I am not quit sure what message the game makers were trying to get through to people with this level. Is it that if you do something like this you will end up in hell? I thought that at first but then at the end when they flashed pictures of the boys when they were younger and the prescription medicines I thought they may have been trying to humanize them in way. In the end I think it may have been a mixture of both. Dylan and Eric were two sick individuals, there is no question about that. I feel the game sensationalized them in a way and then in the end tried to humanize them and show that the consequence to their actions was them going to hell. This did not make me feel any better about the game. I still feel that this game should not be on the market and cannot believe that it is. The Columbine Massacre is not t=something that should be sensationalized in any way shape o form. It was a horrible thing that happened. The thought that people are making money off of this game makes me sick and I think it is completely unethical. How would the game makers feel is something like this were to happen to their children? I bet they would never want something like this made were it to involve anyone they love.Wed, 05 Nov 2008 13:33:50 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3473&iddiary=6521Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Wed, 05 Nov 2008 12:29:04https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3473As I entered my second attempt at paying the game I began to think about the families of the victims of Columbine. What did they think about this game? I feel that the game sensationalizes what Eric and Dylan did. The game lays out in detail exactly what they did, when and where. The game even goes as far as providing flashbacks, providing some insight as to why the boys may have done this heinous crime. The flashback was about Dylan being beat up in the locker room by jocks. This game sets a horrible example for our youth of America. The game is sensationalizing what these boys did. It is essentially saying that it is acceptable to shoot and kill people if you have been bullied and teased your whole life. Now I am not trying to discount what those boys went through. I cannot imagine how painful it must have been to be teased and bullied your whole life. But, shooting up the school is not the right way to react. And neither is making a video game that can been seen by young, impressionable kids. What kid would not want to someday star in their own video game? This video game has put Dylan and Eric on a pedestal and that is all kids will see. They will see that these boys are known worldwide for what they did, that they will never be forgotten and now they even have their own videogame. This game should not be on the market. It sets a horrible example for our youth. Their should be videogames that teach kids the right way to deal with violence, I know those would not be as exciting to some but I did not think this game was exciting at all. I actually found it extremely depressing.Wed, 05 Nov 2008 12:29:04 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3473&iddiary=6510Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Wed, 05 Nov 2008 10:36:39https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3473When I first clicked the link to play this game my emotions from the day Columbine happened came back. I will never forget that day. I remember where I was, what I was wearing and what I felt. I was in shock and horror at the sights I saw. I will never forget the kids and teachers jumping out of the classroom window. It is amazing to me that there would be a market for this game. I mean, who wants to know exactly what happened? What happened at Columbine was senseless and should never have happened. I played the game because I was required to, and that’s the only reason. When the game first started I was shocked how real it was. It showed Eric planting the bombs in the cafeteria, and a phone call between the two. Both of which gave me the complete creeps. The game was very slow, which was annoying to me. Also, the game was very depressing. It shows Eric and Dylan walking to their death. Depressing and sadness is not something I want to feel when I am playing a video game. Usually when I play a video game my adrenaline is pumping and I am excited. Usually I cannot wait to discover what is around the next corner, but this game I was horrified about what was around the next corner. I had to stop playing that day. I couldn’t take it anymore. The combination of the emotions from remembering Columbine and the shock of the video game were too much and I had to quit that day.Wed, 05 Nov 2008 10:36:39 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3473&iddiary=6493Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas (PS2) - Mon, 06 Oct 2008 09:58:12https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3407My third time playing the game I was more ambitious. I participated in more missions in order to advance myself farther. I found that the missions could be tame, like just going to get food. But there always seemed to be a catch, like a rival gang would be there and gun fire would erupt. I like the idea of the missions, but I do not think they need to be so violent and extreme. I like the concept of moving up and being rewarded with money for completing the missions, but some of the things you must do for that to happen are completely off the wall. During my third time playing I also got to see more of how the game exploits women. I was shocked by all of the sex, sex, sex! The fantasies and the clothes were unreal. This game showed little to no respect for women at all. The game exploited the women completely. It made light of the fact that CJ had more than one girlfriend, glamorized it even. Which sets a horrible example for people. I enjoyed playing this game. At first I was completely shocked by the violence but after I got over that I started to get into the story of the game and the plot line. The story really captured my attention and kept me wanting to play. I was encouraged each time I got closer to finding out about CJ's Mom. The exploitation of women I could live without entirely. I understand a little violence, but I think the game could scale it back a bit to make it more "real". All in all I think the game was fun to play, but could tone down the violence.Mon, 06 Oct 2008 09:58:12 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3407&iddiary=6385Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas (PS2) - Sun, 05 Oct 2008 20:16:59https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3385After writing my first game log I realized I may have been a little harsh. It was my first time playing the game and I was frustrated by learning all the different elements of the game. I am not a frequent game player so please bare with me. The second time I played I caught on more to the story line which I found interesting. The story of CJ's Mom being murdered and him returning home to his old life of gangs and drugs. At first the violence, drugs and gangs turned me off of the game. But after delving in more it seemed to make the game seem more real to me, more personal. The story line got my emotions involved by making me care more about the players and what happened to his mom. The mystery of what happened, and who did it made me want to keep playing. I have never had so many emotions while playing a video and it was because of the story line. The slang and clothes of the character, while offensive, added to the real effect of the game. I felt like the game in some ways glamorized the gang life with the flashy cars and clothes. That I did not like. That sends the wrong message to young, impressionable game players. I did like how the police stepped in at times, showing that there are consequences to our actions. They did not only just step in during the main violence but they were also on the side lines, making it fee like they were alway watching like in real life. Overall, my second time playing was a lot better then the first. I loosened up on the violence and gang life and concentrated more on the story line. I opened my self up to the game more and allowed my self to get caught up in it.Sun, 05 Oct 2008 20:16:59 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3385&iddiary=6336Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas (PS2) - Sat, 04 Oct 2008 13:08:43https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3385While playing Grand Theft Auto III San Andreas today I was shocked by the violence and carnage that I witnessed while playing. I feel like the game makers went way over the top with the violence. It was not enough just to hit a person with the car but they wanted you to shoot them, or beat them to death. The more gruesome the player is the more points you score. What does that teach our society? Our kids? That violence is acceptabe, and you get rewarded for it? This game sets a horrible example for everyone. It promotes and encourages violence. I realize that the game has a rating on it, which is supposed to prevent it from getting in the hands of young kids, but can a rating really do that? And what about the effect of the game on adults? After people see something so many times it starts to become normal. Is beating a person to death normal? I don't think so. By putting this violence in the video the game makers are essentially saying that certain type of violence is allowed in certain places. I completely disagree with that. I think this type of violence, any type of violence really, does not belong anywhere in our society. Including in a virtual world. I am shocked that there is market for this. I just do not understand why the game makers needed to allow so much violence in the game. Who wants that anyway? I realize that I am not a frequent video game player and do not understand all the aspects of the game, but i just cannot imagine that anyone wants to see this much violence. I realize that the game does not force you to be so gruesome, but when I play a game I play it to win. And the way to win this game is to be as gruesome as possible. Bottom line, this game goes above and beyond the necessary limits of violence. It promotes and encourages a large amount of violence.Sat, 04 Oct 2008 13:08:43 CSThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3385&iddiary=6299
