    Entry 1:
Having played this game in the beginning of the quarter I already knew what to expect. For this session of play I decided to start again from the beginning and check through everything that I could. The opening of the game in Eric’s house was quite eerie for me to play through.

Starting in his room it was odd to see the details of his life in RPG/8-bit format. The KMFDM poster on the wall and the basement set up made it all seem realistic. Music played a large role in the beginning of the game, from picking up the Marlin Manson CD, listening to KMFDM in the car, and the midi soundtrack of nirvana and Ramnsein, the importance of Eric and Dylan’s music was expressed in the game. The odd thing was playing an RPG about a true event and being able to play through it to understand what happened on that April, 20th.

The part that I had the most interest in during this session was the video recording that Eric and Dylan left for people to view after they were gone. I do not know if they are actual verbatim transcripts, but it was almost scary to see how realistic about what was going to happen Eric and Dylan were. It was sad to see how much they cared about their family and did not want anyone they liked to be blamed. Family was also the reason Dylan applied for the marines because he wanted his dad to be happy. It was all interesting to see that they cared about their family is that way. Or so the game made it seem.

    Entry 3:
The last sitting of SCMRPG! Was one of the most interesting. It was a bit hard to play as well. After a bit of exploration I found myself in the library, which I remembered to be one of the worst parts of the whole shooting in real life.

The cut scene with Eric and Brenda was interesting to me. Again I found the game, and myself trying to discern from the real events that went on but it was interesting to see that Eric and Dylan were almost typical angsty teens. They had their ups and downs with girls, and other peers. High school is a hard time for mostly everybody, but it seems through the events of the game that Dylan and Eric had taken a different action.

The end of the game was a bit abrupt to me. It was weird that there was the choice of ending it all, or to ‘keep on killing these shitheads’. I chose to end it all right there and the most disturbing part of the game followed. Pictures from the boy’s suicide and people crying and holding each other in the aftermath of the shooting juxtaposed with a photo collection showing both Eric and Dylan through their life, and a memorial to each in death.

Then the game took a strange turn. I was placed in hell to battle characters from Doom in search for Eric. I had died at this point and I was brought back to my last save. This game was interesting and disturbing. Right before Eric and Dylan kill each other, they say that they have no final words because no one would hear them. This game makes their words be heard, which makes it for an odd playing experience.

    Entry 2:
This time playing the game it got a bit more disturbing for me to play. Once all the bombs were set and ready to go Dylan and Eric went to the top of the hill overlooking Denver and the hatred that was expressed in the game was fascinating.

I am having a hard time discerning what really happened in real life to what is going on the in the video game. It is odd to think that these may have been the words spoken by Dylan and Eric. They hated the world around hem and were tormented in high school.

One of the realest parts of the game for me was in the cafeteria when the photo from the camera was shown. It brought the sense of realism back to the game and made things quite real. Also the back-story of when Dylan used to sit alone at lunch was quite heartbreaking. The game evokes many different emotions every minute of game play.

The battle cuts in the game are disturbing as well. Everyone is based off high school stereotypes and the backgrounds of the battles are photos from a high school. The realization of death from Dylan and Eric is shown many times and is quite disturbing.

The game is way more in-depth than I thought it would be. There are things hidden all around the game. It was funny to see that some of the computers in the game will download the anarchist cookbook to your inventory for new weapons.

Jul 29th, 2009 at 00:08:20     -    Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC)

My last and final session with the game started with going into a crack house and observing what seemed to be someone receiving a blowjob, which was quite shocking to see. The way women are portrayed in the game is quite ill, but then again no one in the game is that outstanding. Even the well-dressed women in the game talk about their make up and seem stuck up.

That aside there seemed to be another positive side in the game that became more evident back at the barbershop. The barber mentioned something about family every time I was there. The theme of family and unity seems quite strong in the game. People that I have encountered in the game seem like they keep the people they love close, which was cool to observe.

Outside of a mission I decided to head downtown and observe more people. It was interesting to see the cops killing people. There was a shooting observed and cops killed and ran over a few people in the street. No one fights back against the cops and there is never any retaliation, which was a bit interesting to see. It would be even more interesting if there were more in-depth character traits given to the NPCs in the game.
