    SUMMARY

In The Sims 3 on PC, users can create their own model person (sim) and basically control the “life” of that sim. Users can choose from a wide variety of looks, clothes, and personality traits to basically create anyone he/she desires. Each sim has basic needs such as hunger, sleep, and other essentials for survival (modeled after a humans needs to stay alive and function). Sims can age, reproduce, and socially interact with other sims(for example chat, hang out, flirt, etc). Throughout game play, a sim has certain desires that the user can choose to achieve. There are a set of points associated with each want that are earned if that particular want is fulfilled. These points can be used to buy rewards for your sim. Based on its personality traits, each sim has a lifetime want that the user can choose to fulfill or not. These lifetime wants are usually a little more challenging to accomplish and therefore have a large amount of points attached to them. The user also has certain challenges such as maintaining school grades if the sim is a child, a job for an adult/teenage sim, and income for a household.

    GAMEPLAY 1

I enjoy playing the Sims 3 because of the fact that you can use your imagination and basically create any story you want. You can make up almost anyone you want and control their fate in life. I have been playing the Sims series for some time now and I love how the game just gets more realistic. For example, the developers usually come out with an expansion pack that allows you to do more with your sims. I tend to play for hours and hours because I get so involved in creating my own story for my sims. When playing, I enter my own world and do not have to restrict my imagination.

The game is a little hard for people who are unfamiliar with it to understand. When I’m playing around my friends, I usually have a friend that’s very intrigued and asking a lot of questions about the game or a friend that’s so confused, they constantly ask, “What’s the point of playing this??”. When I play, each of my Sims has a story that I usually love to share with my friends.

    GAMEPLAY 2

The aspect of this game that keeps it interesting for me is the fact that sims have different personality traits. I found myself creating sims with different combinations to figure out what special attributes they have and how they interact with different sims. For example, a flirty sim has more options to flirt with another sim while a frugal sim has the ability to clip coupons out of a newspaper and save when buying groceries. The ability to create different combinations of personalities gives me the impression that I’m constantly creating unique sims.

Sims can also build different skills and I use this aspect of the game as another challenge. I usually try to build all the skills of my sims. For example, sims can lift weights, run on a treadmill, or jog around the town to build body points. The higher a sim’s body points, the more tone the sim’s body. They can also go fishing and their skill level depends on the type of fish they can catch. Building these skills open up more opportunities and I find myself trying to figure out what more can my sims do as I build on their skills.

    DESIGN

The impressive parts of this game are the graphics and the level of creativity a user is able to use. You can customize almost everything in this game from the color of the sim’s eyes to the decorations in a sim’s household. You can make your sim look like a friend, family member, or someone from your dreams. The new Sims 3 even expands from the older Sims games in that now your sims have personalities and different challenges when building skills. This game definitely presents challenges to the user because you have to maintain so much during game play. For example, if you are trying to control a family of three or more sims, you have to keep track of the needs and wants of three different characters. This can get complicated at times. In the Sims 3, you also have to manage your resources such as space when building a house or income when actually playing the game. This game gives the user complete control over what happens within the game. This aspect of the Sims is what first attracted me to it.

There are some aspects of the game that I wish could change. In the old Sims, the lifetime want was a little more challenging to achieve and once achieved, there was another lifetime want to achieve. In the Sims 3, once you’ve accomplished the lifetime want, that’s it. I wish that I could have another goal to try and achieve. I also wish there were more and better rewards that the user could attain. Despite these dislikes, I find myself waiting to see what new expansion pack will come out to this game because I know that the developers continue to build on what the sims are able to do and present new challenges to the users.
