Nov 24th, 2009 at 13:37:36     -    Bookworm Adventures- The Monkey King (PC)

The object of this game is to spell words to beat your enemies. You are the Bookworm. You have a Cheshire Cat and Mother Goose as side kicks. You have several potions and power ups that you can use on each level(three per level). The ultimate goal is to defeat the Monkey King.

Play is pretty straight forward. You choose your sidekick(and their special power) and some potions(with their powers), and you begin your first adventure. You have a task bar at the top to measure your progress on the level. You spell words to inflict damage to your enemies. When you have defeated all of the enemies on a level you get a new power up(bonus for adverbs, etc.).

This game is challenging, in that you have to make the biggest possible word with the letters given. The longer the word, the more damage and better power ups you get. I can play this game for hours. It's like a boggle game with characters! The story is fun for my 5 year old to follow.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoy this game. It is mentally stimulating, and entertaining to play. I like the way they have made spelling into a fun game. I also like the way my boy reacts to it.

    Nov 24th, 2009 at 13:26:37     -    Spelunky (PC)

The game, Spelunky, is about a cave explorer who is trying to find treasure and rescue a girl. The levels are randomly generated, so you never get the same cave to explore. You search through the cave for gold and treasures. Along the way you may find a treasure(golden head)or a girl to save, then you head for the exit.

I found the controls to be easy to understand. I found the cave to difficult to explore, though. This game kicked my butt! I could never make it more than 2-3 levels. That being said, I was addicted to the challenge of navigating the cave. You are given a rope and bombs as tools. I blew myself up several times, mastering how to throw the bombs.

The enemies were not to challenging, though, I got killed by several of them. Learning how to control my fall lead to landing on several of the enemies, or falling too far, both of which got me dead, a lot! I never made it past the third level!

All in all, I enjoyed this game. It keeps you on your toes, and is very addicting. Spelunky has that, edge of your seat, type feeling to it. I would play this game again.

    Nov 19th, 2009 at 14:23:07     -    Aquaria (PC)

Aquaria is about a "girl" named Najia. She lives in an underwater world, which you are to explore. You find "verse" which gives you powers, like lifting boulders and a shield. You explore her world and find new verse and food.

I enjoy the mode of movement(the mouse) as point and click is pretty easy to understand. You hold the left mouse key to swim and the right mouse key to sing. The world is beautifully done, and during explorations it is easy to get lost in the world itself.

I was enjoying playing this game, but soon got frustrated. I kept running into puzzles I couldn't get past. Or, getting into areas I couldn't escape from. Solving some of the puzzles was just a matter of exploring and paying attention, but others left little room for error. The game does supply several places to save and this was crucial.

Overall, I enjoyed the game, I will have to explore Najia's world more when I have more time

Nov 19th, 2009 at 10:33:39     -    The Legend of Zelda (NES)

The Legend of Zelda is a classic game. The main character, Link, is trying to save the princess, Zelda. To do so, you must explore the map and defeat the level bosses. Very large map, for the time this game came out.

I have always enjoyed this game, so revisiting it has been a lot of fun. I always scream through the first few levels, then I have to struggle a little to get past the harder levels.

The characters are all familiar to us now. Link is the hero, Zelda is the princess Link is trying to save. The level bosses are challenging and keep you on your toes.

I love to play this game with my wife, it is always good to have a seperate pair of eyes to see the things I missed. Playing this game is always a lot of fun. I have, literally, spent days playing this game in the past. So, in conclusion, this game is great!
