As I played more of the game, a few crazy things happened. I was lead to some guy called Big Bear, who turned out to be some pissed off guy on crack. He threatened me and Ryder and told us to never come back, so apparently Ryder got pissed and I wound up killing a bunch of crack dealers. Apparently this was the about the only thing I could do to get the cop's attention, since this was my first time dealing with them, despite the amount of mayhem I've caused up to this point. Apparently they don't care what happens to innocent civilians and only care when you go and kill a bunch of drugged up crack dealers who probably wound in jail at least once in their lives. It's pretty strange when you think about it, and it's one of the reasons why I just can't get into the game. Maybe it just happened because it was a story mission, and there was scripted dramatic events, or maybe I just wasn't causing enough chaos just randomly driving into stuff. Or maybe I'm just too used to recent, more realistic games. Whatever the case may be, it sure was hilarious, but not in a way that anyone who takes it seriously would appreciate.

I've never played San Andreas before, so I had no idea what to expect when I loaded it up. I've played GTA4, the newest one, but that's about it. What I saw in San Andreas was a lot different. From what I've seen from the first half hour, it's basically a stereotypical ghetto story. The characters are all African American, and are constantly swearing, smoking and drinking, and yelling at their “girlfriends.” In the first half hour, all I saw was just stereotype after stereotype. Sure, the game itself is fun, but I just couldn't find myself caring about the story. I have the feeling that Rockstar purposely made the story take backseat to the comedy and action, which there was plenty of in the first half hour. The first thing I did was obviously, to steal someone's car and drive away scott-free. It took me a bit to get used to controls, since I rarely play PS games, (I own an Xbox instead) but I found it hilarious that I was accidentally running over civilians, destroying street lights and just causing ruckus, and no one did anything about it. I realize that messing around is pretty much what you are supposed to do, since it's an open world game, but I didn't expect to get away with so much without even seeing a cop once. Maybe it was because it was the start of the game, or since it's a last-gen game, it's not as realistic as GTA4, but whatever the case, I was glad and let down that I did so much damage and no consequences arose. Glad because I didn't have to attempt at running away from the cops, which I most likely would have failed at, and let down because it would have at least been fun to try and get away. I also realized how little you are punished in the game, (at least early on) and I can see how people are negatively influenced by the game's care-free gameplay. Some people may actually think that they can cause a ruckus in real life, and simply hide from the cops and everything would be fine! Or that killing innocent people would be as easy as just doing the crime and driving away. The fact the game is realistic enough to the point where you even have to watch what you eat has lead to many disputes over the game. I've seen many arguments against the game raised by the media, and while I don't agree with most of them, if any, I can now see how they came up with their complaints.
