Oct 28th, 2010 at 10:47:38     -    Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC)

For my third and final GameLog entry on the Super Columbine Massacre RPG, because it appears that I have little chance of progressing if I play the game for a third session, I will instead recollect my previous experience with the game and analyze the merits of it. While playing the game, I was specifically looking for the bias of the game's creator, and in the end, I am not entire sure of what I found. The way the game portrays the shooters does seem to make them look a tad idiotic, but then again, even though they went through tedious preparation for it, these are still two guys who went a killed a bunch of people, which is not a very intelligent thing to do in the first place, so they may have been pretty stupid people. Another thing I found was that the game specifically highlights the kinds of media that the shooters were regularly exposed to, which seems to state: “These are the media enjoyed by murderers.” One thing that surprised me though was the portrayal of security in schools, which I know to be extremely lax. While getting to the cafeteria to set up the bombs, you have to avoid a great number of security camera and students; in my experience, security cameras are useless and the students aren't going to care. I remember when I was in high school, after the events of the Columbine massacre, I wore a big black trench coat to school, I was worried that I would be stopped by a teacher, and I was, but only to be complimented. Yes, that's right, I was complimented on my big black trench coat at school after the massacre. So I really don't think these guys would have had any trouble getting in. In the end, I don't think I this game does a good job showing the massacre from the perspective of the shooters simply because of how terrible the game is, but I would like to see someone try to show the same message but actually succeed in its execution.

Oct 27th, 2010 at 23:47:27     -    Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC)

In my second session of playing the game, I decided to start over to maybe understand what to do. I found that there were many things in the starting area that were places of interest that I could interact with. I picked up his copy of Doom and he commented on how he hoped others could enjoy his levels or something like that. I grabbed a Marylin Manson CD and he commented on he thought the media would blame the music, which is ironic because they ended up blaming the video games more. I looked at a pizza which trigged a flashback of the two of them making small explosives and talking about their futures. After that I grabbed the duffel bags and bombs. Then they watched a movie, probably put in the game to show the kind of movies they watched, although, I had no idea what it was supposed to be so that sort of went over my head. Then they made one last recording in which one of them apologizes to his parents and loved ones and says that no one should be arrested. After that I went to the school and the same sort of thing happened again and I was not able to continue. I can't wait to do the same thing again for the third entry! How exciting.

At the start of the game, the first thing I noticed was the almost illegible font that I have to read throughout the game. The game starts with the two teens discussing their plans to kill a bunch of people. Next, they grab their guns and explosives and head for the school. On the way there, the game puts special attention on the kind of music they listen to, which of course isn't very "nice" music, but what would you expect? When the get to the school, they have to sneak past the student and what have you to get to the cafeteria where they plan to plant a bomb. This part was overly difficult, and in the end, I was not able to get past that part because the game was not explicit enough to tell me what to do once I got the cafeteria.

Oct 5th, 2010 at 23:16:22     -    Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (XBX)

For my third and final GTA: San Andreas GameLog, I decided to forget about that awful bike chase mission, and went for an alternative. Luckily, the game at this point gives the play multiple options for what mission they complete. This mission involved getting back at the Ballers for their drive-by at the fast food place. In the mission I drove while the three other guys in the car shot at the Ballers, in the end, an innumerable amount of crimes were committed during this mission, but then again, I think that applies for all of the missions in the game. I then saved CJ's brother in a shootout, and since I had no health left after that, I decided it would just be best to throw myself off a bridge to die, respawn, and then have health again. In the next mission, I was to do something about CJ's sister's “Cholo” boyfriend at some kind of vehicular competition. I then went to a man who modifies cars for such events and he hooked me up with a low-rider equipped with hydraulics. Unfortunately, I flipped the car which subsequently exploded, and failed the mission. After that, I headed for the gym to work out. For the remainder of the time I led the cops on a high speed chase through the city.

CJ's brother Sweet is very racist and when he is commenting on their sister's new boyfriend (who is Mexican) he uses some pretty harsh language, so I expected a reaction from CJ, but it didn't seem like he supported it or was opposed to it. Considering his closeness to the situation, his immediate family, CJ seems to be completely disconnected, as if he was only there to drive people around and do what they say. Even though CJ is supposed to controlled by the player, since the player has no way to interact with the cut scenes, he should have a well defined personality, but he doesn't and it really makes the player feel disconnected from the game.
