CJ, the main character is apparently returning from the east coast after finding out his mother was killed. Upon arriving CJ is pulled over and disrespected by corrupt, racist police. I found it questionable, as I am sure many did, the result of the game immediately portrays authority figures in this light. In previous GTA games it was easily assumed that your character was bad and your actions were done with bad intentions. At the very start of this game CJ’s character is already starting to justify his violent actions later on. Although the game puts police in a negative light, gangs appear to be somewhat neutral. CJ’s character seems thus far apposed to the gang life as he had moved away for some time. However, he almost immediately joins up again later on and if I remember correctly growing the gang is a perk. At this point, however, CJ view seems to support the idea that gangs are both a problem and a solve in the ghetto. His opinion seems to be chillingly realistic in comparison to real gang members. By the end of the first mission, it is clear to me that San Andreas takes on a much more realistic story and perhaps too much so. It feels as if I am literally playing the life of what some people really go through.
