On Monday, a class mate and I played San Andreas in the Console Lab right before class. There was definitely a sense of nostalgia playing the game. I had not touched San Andreas since I last played it when I came out. Seeing as this was the lab and I had no way to bring any previous saved versions of the game over, we had to play the game from the very beginning. The first thing I kind of caught myself thinking was, “I forgot how spot on they made these characters.” I thought this because at the point where you get thrown out the police car and are forced to bike home out of Balla Territory, most Black people in this situation would feel the same way. Well, at least I would. Yes, the cops were not right for leaving me in this area but complaining isn’t going to get anything done. One thing I did remember thinking though was that I have yet to meet an African American cop like Officer Tenpenny. Most of my encounters with black cops if I or someone I know is in the wrong, even if they feel like they are the big kahuna, is a sort of attitude that physically says, “Come on. You’re making our race look bad, get out of here.” That part seemed a little inaccurate but Officer Tenpenny could not have been portrayed any other way because his character moves the story along well, if my memory serves me right.
