To begin with, Gamelog rated this game a five by default I think but I would probably rate it a four in all honesty. I had only played this game once before when it had first came out. I remember I had fun playing it but I also remember not nessecarily agreeing with all the freedom given to the player in this game. The game begins with what is lead to be your character be told his mother is dead followed by him being arrested by police. Who are dipicted as really mean people in this game, it definitley gives police a worse reputation than they already have. The main character is being accused of shooting a police officer right when he gets off his plane, they basically were framing him from the looks of it.
Something really annoying about the game right when it started off were the inverted controls. I quickly fixed that.I just started off playing the game and took the bicycle that it told me to and wandered around the city to get used to the game before starting any missions. I decided to use the name of the game for inspiration so right off the bat I hijacked an old ladies car... like the great person I am.
I entered "Big Smoke" to enter into another cut scene. Voices seem to be going through my players head, someone comes running with a bat but then recognizes him. It seems he knows him. He then takes him to see his mom, and we get into a cut scene where he defends how someones boyfriend treats her (a shock to me). They start telling him how bad things have gotten around town. To show this they show a drive by shooting. I run away on my bike to follow my friends but get behind and the car starts shooting at me again. I finally catch up and we keep running away from the shooting car. After running away from the car and just fooling around on the bike a little bit and exploring my house, and gaining the respect from mission I decided to end my expirence for the night.
The game is more plot based than it is advertised to be which was definitley an interesting thing to play. Its more than just stealing cars and sleeping with hookers. Also the player is not nessecarily some evil person who just likes to mess up the dynamic, he actually has a motive and isnt nessecarily a bad person at all. He is what you make him to be. There is also a shocking amount of cut scenes as well as a not so suprising amount of racial slurs. Slightly degrading towards African Americans but still interesting to play.
