    Oct 15th, 2012 at 18:32:54     -    Transformers: War for Cybertron (PS3)

Before playing Transformers: Fall of Cybertron I had to play the prequel, Transformers: War for Cybertron. High Moon did their job in bringing the Transformers to life in the most outstanding ways for the fans. War for Cybertron follows the story of both the Autobots and Decepticons, Megatron lust for power and order brings destruction to Cybertron. Optimus Prime must stand against Megatron to stop his plans and bring back what was once a peaceful Cybertron. High Moon did such a great job in brining in the iconic characters, like Soundwave, Sideswipe, Starscream, Iron Hide, etc. As well as within the story High Moon gives good plot inserts such as, how Optimus became a Prime or how the Matrix was created. The game is an excellent shooter it has a well developed style of combat for robot or vehicle that never gets dull. It has a over the shoulder gunplay that consist of a variety of guns that alters the arm of the Transformer and gunplay combat.
Every level in the campaign has three unique characters each one with its own ability or class. For example, Optimus is in the class of Leader and has the War Cry ability which grants himself and the other two Autobots with increase power. No matter which campaign you are playing the game looks amazing and sounds incredible. The animation on the environment and each Transformer is very detailed as the movement on the structures and the character’s body moves realistically. The voices for each character are great as the dialogue brings the serious or comical dialogue for what you expect from each Transformer.
Transformers: War for Cybertron is a great shooter/action video game. It fulfills in many ways why the Transformers dominated my early childhood as High Moon brought to life the best in the Transformers.

    Oct 7th, 2012 at 16:49:56     -    Prototype 2 (360)

Prototype 2 involves revolving around skyscrapers, stealing the form of anyone in your path and forming weapons with your morphing abilities, all within the infectious city of New York City.
If you haven’t played the first Prototype, New York has been infected again by the Backlight virus. The former main character Alex Mercer is a darker character than before, and has been replaced with the new protagonist James Heller.
With a more brutal character that reminds me of the same attitude and style as God of War’s Kratos, Heller is no push over. The cutscenes are in a stylish black, white and red highlight, way better than the cutscenes from the last game. Heller has the same abilities as Mercer, but with more benefits. The controls feel more responsive as I can flow through the city no problem, if it’s for a side mission or escaping the military. However, what I like most about the game is that I can use two powers at the same time matched with the square and triangle buttons, allowing for a mix-up of heavy and light attacks. For example, I used the Claws for fast swift attacks on square and then hit the triangle button for the Hammer Fist for strong ground attacks.
Unlike Mercer, Heller has a great defensive option, because you are constantly being attacked from close or long range. Just by pressing the block button Heller releases a shield that will block and parry any move from a monster and reflect weapon fire from the military. This is the perfect shield for putting you in a defensive or offensive position, depending on how you want to take it.
Prototype 2 is a way better version than the last game, as it feels like an Altiar to an Ezio. I can use the powers in any way a wish as Radical gives me the free will to do so. If you haven’t played the first game, Prototype 2 will fill in those blanks so you won’t even have to worry about it. Prototype 2 is the game for high entertainment with great sounds, cutscences and crazy unique combat makes the game come to life.

    Oct 1st, 2012 at 09:44:01     -    Mortal Kombat (360)

I played the recent Nether Realm studios fighting game, Mortal Kombat. This new installment in the series isn’t a mere throwback title compared to the arcade style. Yes, the fighters still fight on the 2D plane, the roster has the classic fighters, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, etc. and the arenas are similar to the older Mortal Kombat stages. Yet, the new featured, X-Ray moves, is a sequence that cracks skulls, shatters ribs, destroys organs and deals a significant amount of damage. Throughout the game if it’s the story or the Ladder. You will encounter many fighters, an army of Tarkatans, or taking on the powerful Goro or Shao Kahn. Combined with humor, blood and combos you never know what to expect.
One of the fighting modes in challenge mode is a tower of 300 challenges. This mode can be its own story and more. Within each of the challenges you will use a different character from the roster, along with perks such as, Test Your Might or Luck. Most of them are difficult and unexpected such as playing Johnny Cage fighting against his old producers, or having a zombie fight. I like this mode because like the story you go through all of the characters to help improve your skills. The combos, special attacks and beautiful detailed maneuvers make this game experience better than its past titles.
Each character has two fatalities, a “special” fatality and one stage fatality, which unfolds many possibilities to dismember your foe in a bloody fashion. For example, Sub-Zero will completely freeze your body feet to waist, thus ripping off your upper half. The characters themselves are very detailed as in the mist of battle they will bruise, bleed and the outfits will tear. Most of the stages are very scenic as you’ll see the background interact with each other bringing life to the environment.
This is defiantly one of the best of the Mortal Kombat series. I’m still a fan of Mortal Kombat 3, but when it comes down to the graphics and gameplay, in a split second it will make you awe to a gruesome bone crack.

    Sep 23rd, 2012 at 17:47:21     -    Bulletstorm (360)

Bulletstorm is a thrilling game by Electronic Arts. Bulletstorm is an explosive game with interactive environments, funny language and brutal combat. Every move you make you are killing your enemies in a bloody fashion making the world your own bloody playground. As I played the game I was set on the main character Grayson Hunt, he is a rugged character bent on revenge with a hilarious potty-mouth voiced by Steve Blum (the voice of wolverine). Bulletstorm’s controls are simple to get the hang off as the game gives you a good variety. Grayson has a regular kick, slide kick and a leash that helps him in the environment and against his foes. The slow motion in the game after you kick or leash an enemy also helps open the door for numerous possibilities of their death. An amazing moment is using the leash to pull an enemy towards you, kicking him away into a wall of metal spikes, explosives barrels, cacti, etc. Amazing moments like these and more are thrilling to see.
Within the game you get skillshots which are necessary to gain points to upgrade your weapons and buy ammo. Each weapon has its own power and types of skillshots to help you build the variety to kill an enemy. The weapons themselves are insanely creative and fun to use altogether. The flail gun for example is a chain-link weapon that can be used to wrap an enemy and blow him up or use it as a trip mine. The burst shot on your main gun is a highly explosive shot that completely ignites your enemy/enemies on contact.
When you are not killing enemies left and right you’re still hanging on the edge of the cliff, for one there’s a moment where you control a Mecha Dinosaur. If not that you’re doing cinematic scenes involving the environment (trams, bridges, explosives, etc.) to get you to the next part in the level.
Bulletstorm is an amazing shooter bringing creativity and hilarious moments. The enemies get more difficult and challenging as you progress through the game making you think through each execution. Bulletstorm is not like most shooters this game has its repetitive moments, but c’mon slide kick a foe and blasting him in the balls is always a trip.
