What else can I say about the pokemon series other than that they are probably one of the best video game series ever devised. The pokemon games are simple left right up down movement along with turn based fights between the monsters you collect. The reason that this works so well and the reason behind their popularity is their story. Pokemon has one of the best story telling concepts this world has ever seen. The show was extremely popular and the characters were dearly loved. Then you give the chance to everyday people who can now play as Ash the Pokemon master to travel around the world collecting rare Pokemon and beating eight gym leaders. Simple mechanics, good story line, lovable characters equals a great game every time.

Sep 24th, 2012 at 23:07:49 - Cut The Rope (iPd) |
In game 101 last week my class was introduced to a very puzzling and difficult game I volunteered to play in front of the glass. Cut the Rope is a strategy/game of wits that makes the player thing outside the box.. or should I say inside it to make a little monster creature eat a piece of candy. The game will start with a piece of red candy attached to rope which you can cut to make it fall/swing. Using lots of math related trajectory ideals the player has to find the innovative way to make the piece of candy get to the cute monsters while trying to collect as many star's as possible. The game also features other mechanics such as bubbles/spiders/and ropes that grab hold when the candy gets close enough. It allows for numerous levels and also makes it more aggravating with every progression. As a perfectionist this game quickly got under my skin evoking a emotion of immense rage that I ended up throwing stuff across my room in anger at one level in particular. Overall Cut the rope is a very quirky but fun little pocket game that is a great brain teaser I highly recommend it, also it's theme really attaches you to the little monster you feed the candy too. When you fail a mission he looks sad, making you feel bad you couldn't get the little guy his candy. 9.2 stars out of ten download the free version today and play.

Many games impress me nowadays, most are either crappy remakes of other games and other's are pointless boring task that don't attract me for more than a couple of minutes. However League Of Legends gameplay has had me quiet riveted. Not many games are so strategy based yet quick paced and action pack that you have to watch the screen every second to make sure you don't miss a thing. I felt like I was playing Starcraft for the first time but it was, dare I say, better. Multiple characters all with unique attacks and abilities and each team heavily relies on teamwork or to be ultimately destroyed. The idea of headquarters objective with the pushing of forces or "minions" against eachother with the factor being the skill and strategy of the champions. In my brief adventure through this game there are many types of champions but all best work when complemented with 1 or 2 other different character types. A support, a ranged and a melee tank are an example of a combo which highly decimated me. I hope to explore this game further and to learn even more but for now I will settle with knowing the online PvP gaming world is still full of surprises.

Sep 10th, 2012 at 20:48:18 - Mortal Kombat (360) |
Fighting games are becoming a more and more popular genre in the gaming community. The orginial Mortal Kombat was under scrutiny for its many bloody "Fataly" endings, but have now been overlooked. As far as a fighter its pretty basic punchs and kicks and every character seems pretty capable of spamming some of their special moves without any limitations on the number allowed. Again overlooking some key and usually agravating gameplay it still is very well designed the artistic details of gore and blood are very creative into the point where its almost a new kind of violent art and in a group enviroment the game has a lot to offer in terms of enjoyment. However the "Fatality" of Mortal Kombat is its replayability. Once you master it to any level playing against your friends is way to easy. Also the storyline isn't complex or gripping enough to play more than once. Personally I love the game but I could easily understand why a lot of gamers could hate it. Truthfully the game is made for a small percentage of gamers and that is just the unfortunate luck of a company having a bad marketing department.
