Feb 23rd, 2015 at 10:24:17     -    The Walking Dead: Season Two (PC)

Wow, I just deleted my 2nd post somehow before submitting it. That sucks....now to rewrite it...

So I have had a great time with this second play session. I went through a bunch of episodes. The main selling factor for me is it is like I am watching a movie. I really like the story, even though sometimes it feels a bit forced or whatever. I am glad that this game stays true to the Walking Dead series that I know and enjoy in that it is one of the only zombie franchises that I can get behind. I think that the main reason for this is that the story uses zombies as a means to tell a compelling story about human nature. It is totally hitting the nail on the head with this game.

So I do have some complaints. I felt that there were 2 characters who I cannot stand, but luckily the game killed them. First is carver. I don't mind that he is a jerk so much as the fact that he is an over the top kind of jerk. It is annoying when a story has an over the top villain that is unbelievable and unquestionably bad. I felt like whenever I had situations that included carver, it forced my decisions and my opinion about him rather than making his side of the story more compelling and letting me decide on my own. I actually tired to get on his good side and suck up to him and just got slapped for it.

The other annoying character who died was Sarah. She annoyed me because I just felt like she could have been a much better character but it just never happened. I spent the entire game taking care of her and doing everything I could to save her life. If she would have confided in clementine and shown why she was so weak or tried to connect more somehow, It would have meant much more when I couldn't protect her and could have been a big emotional event. Instead, it was a relief that I don't have to drag around dead weight anymore.

In my next play session, I will have to pay the piper for stealing meds from Alvaro. This should be fun!

Feb 16th, 2015 at 13:28:43     -    The Walking Dead: Season Two (PC)

This was my first experience with a telltale game. I guess i should have tried season 1 as well but i didnt. Anyways, I played the first two episodes and so far I am loving this game. It is a nice game for times when I just want to hear a story rather than the stress i feel when I play a game like Dota or CoD.

I really like the story choices so far. I think that it is neat that you can see what other people choose too. The first big choice I made was to save Nicks life over his uncles life. The main reason I did so was because it look like the uncle got bit so i didn't want to just see him die. It is a bit crazy though because now I wonder if the uncle was still alive, would walter still be alive? or max? It makes me want to play through again and pick different choices.

looks like in the third episode that I get brought to a compound run by...i forgot his name. but ya, this should be an interesting change of pace.

So in my third play session, I had a great time and learned a few things. First off, I started a liquor factory and was making some pretty decent amounts of beer for selling. All in all I think that making the beer as fast as possible is a great strategy. By doing so you can clean out the guys who com and trade by selling the beer at an insane price.

We also picked up a 4th character named boris. He is super good for scavenging because he can carry more than anyone. unfortunately, He just died to a bunch of bandits and now iron is depressed. I wish i would have been more careful but it seemed like if i didn't get some food, than my characters would suffer and die anyway...

In an interesting turn of events, I found myself being hardened by the constant theme of the game of how terrible war is. Instead of being worried about the old people whom i am raiding, I started thinking things like, they don't need this much food and medicine. Seems pretty messed up that i would start acting like that, but maybe thats part of war that the designers intended to portray.

To be honest, I am a bit frustrated right now and want to start over. poor boris...

Jan 24th, 2015 at 22:03:18     -    This war of mine (PC)

For my second play through I actually had to restart from the beginning and play on a different computer. It seemed like I was able to be more effective the second time around and get to roughly the same point in the game in less time.

One moment that really stood out to me was when I went to scavenge I came across a guy who was taking care of his sick parents. I was hiding from him and waiting for him to leave the room as I watched his situation unfold and how he felt powerless against the forces of the war but trapped by duty to take care of his parents. after he left the room I snuck in and raided his supplies, taking a lot of very valuable food.

At first I didn't realize that I was raiding his supplies(as it was a new icon) but rather just taking supplies from a random drop spot like all the other supplies up to that point. However, the game let me know I was stealing by clearly stating it after i had already started as well as after I stole the stuff, He tried to kill me.

Anyways, So I stole all their food and it was actually pretty good food. Canned food and vegetables! the only thing was that my character after returning home showed remorse for the action asking if what he did was wrong. The dialog of the character as well as the "sad" trait on my character was surprisingly moving. After a while my character went back to normal and it was all good but that kinda sucked.

On the other hand I got a chance to do good as 2 kids came by asking for medicine for their sick mom which i readily gave them. hopefully i can reverse some of my digital kharma with that act.
