    Session 1:
    So I had decided to continue on with Sabrina's gym after some training on Cinnabar Island's Pokemon Mansion. I had already taken out half the trainers in Sabrina's gym before deciding to train a Lapras to help me in my eventual quest to capture the 3 Kanto birds.

    So from the remaining half of gym trainers, the first trainer I come across uses a Lv 34 Ghastly. I countered with a Lv 38 Beedrill.
    Pinmissile missed, then Ghastly used Hypnosis. Beedrill remained asleep as Ghastly hit him with a Confuse ray, Lick, Confuse Ray, Night Shade, Lick, and when he finally woke up he was hit by a Night Shade. Decided to switch out with Lv 37 Fearow. Ghastly used Confuse Ray. Fearow used Drill Peck to One Hit K.O. Ghastly. The trainer sent out Haunter, lv 34. Fearow hurt itself in confusion before Haunter tried to lick Fearow, which didn't work due to Fearow being both a Normal and Flying type. Fearow then One-hit K.O.'d Haunter with a Drill Peck. I healed Beedrill with a lemonade.
    Second Trainer came along. He started with lv 33 Ghastly while I used Beedrill again. Beedrill KO'd Ghastly with a Pin Missile that hit 4 times. He sent out another lv 33 Ghastly. Beedrill used Pin Missile which hit 3 times, Ghastly used Hypnosis. I decided to use the Pokeflute rather than wait for Beedrill to wake up on his own. Ghastly used Hypnosis. I used Pokeflute again. Ghastly used confuse ray. Beedrill KO'd Ghastly with another pin missile. The trainer sent out a lv 33 Haunter. Beedrill hurt itself in confusion before Haunter used Hypnosis. I used Pokeflute. Haunter tried to use Hypnosis again but failed. Beedrill then used Pin Missile which hit 3 times. Haunter counters with Hypnosis. I use Pokeflute. He licked. I used Pinmissile and missed. He used Lick again. Beedrill got paralyzed. Haunter used Nightshade. Beedrill's confusion wore off and attacked with Pin Missile which hit twice, ending the battle. I use another lemonade to heal Beedrill.

    Third Trainer happens. He throws out lv 31 Kadabra. I use Beedrill. Kadabra tried Disable and failed. I counter with a Pin Missile that KO'd him after two hits. He sends out Slowpoke. Beedrill's paralisis keeps him from attacking. Slowpoke disabled Beedrill's Agility. Beedrill attacked with Pin Missile that hit 3 times. Slowpoke used Growl to lower Beedrill's attack slightly. Slowpoke used headbutt, causing Beedrill to flinch and not attack. Slowpoke used growl. Beedrill used Pin Missile which KO'd slowpoke after 3 more hits. Then came Mr. Mime. Mime used confusion and it was a critical hit causing Beedrill to faint. I used Lapras. Lapras used Body Slam. Mr. Mime used Barrier to rase defense stat. Lapras used water gun. Mr. Mime used Confusion, causing Lapras to become confused and hurt. Lapras finished off Mr. Mime with Water Gun. Then came Kadabra. Kadabra failed to use Disable and Lapras hurt itself in confusion. Kadabra failed ot use Recover, Lapras snapped out of confusion and used Water Gun. Kadabra disabled Lapras's Body Slam, Lapras used Water gun. Kadabra used recover and recovered most of his HP, Lapras used water gun. Kadabra used Psybeam, Lapras's disabled Body Slam was no longer disabled, and Lapras used Sing to put Kadabra to sleep. Kadabra stayed asleep as Lapras finished him off with a Body Slam.

    Now came the fight with Sabrina. Sabrina starts with a Lv 38 Kadabra, I use 37 Fearow. Fearow starts with Drill Peck, which caused a One Hit KO Critical Hit. Sabrina sends out Mr. Mime, I swap with Lapras. Mr. Mime uses Confusion, Lapras uses Body Slam. We repeat our attacks. Mr. Mime uses Barrier, Lapras uses Water Gun to KO Mr. Mime. Sabrina sends out Venomoth. Venomoth uses Stun Spore to Paralyze Lapras, Lapras uses Body Slam. Venomoth uses Psybeam which lands a critical hit, Lapras uses Body Slam. I use Lemonade to heal Lapras to 2/3 of his health, Venomoth uses Psybeam. Venomoth uses Psybeam again causing Lapras to become confused, which Lapras hurts itself in confusion. Venomoth uses Pysbeam again, Lapras hurts itself in confusion. I use another lemonade, venomoth attacks with Psybeam again. Venomoth attacks iwth Psybeam, Lapras hurts itself in confusion. I've had enough and switch out for Gyarados, which Venomoth procedes to paralyze with stun spore. Venomoth uses Psybeam, Gyarados uses Surf. Lapras and Gyarados gain levels 38 and 39 respectively. Lapras forgets confuse ray to learn Ice Beam. Sabrina sends out Alakazam, I send back out Lapras. I heal Lapras with another lemonade, Alakazam tries to use Recover. Alakazam uses Psybeam. Lapras uses Ice Beam. Alakazam uses Recover. Lapras uses Ice Beam. Alakazam uses Psybeam, Lapras uses Ice Beam but is now low on health. I switch out Lapras for Charizard as Alakazam attacks with Psybeam. Alakazam uses Reflect, Charizard uses slash to KO him. Sabrina gives me the Marsh Badge and the TM for Psywave. I head back to the Pokemon Center and heal Pokemon and store a few of my items in the PC.

    Session 2:

    So after a bit of grinding, I decided to go to the Cinabar Island Gym. Cinnabar Island's gym gives you a chance to ignore all the trainers if you can answer quiz machines correctly. I decided not to. I wanted to take on every trainer in the gym and raise my pokemon's levels higher.

    Trainer 1 fight happens. Growlithe vs Gyarados, lv 36 and 44. Gyarados used Surf and KO'd growlith. Burglar sends out Vulpix lv 36, I switch to Lapras lv 41. Lapras used water gun and took out 99% of Vulpix's health. Vulpix used flamethrower. Lapras used body slam to KO Vulpix. Burglar sends out Ninetails lv 36. Ninetails uses Ember which lands a critical hit on Lapras, but still not very effective due to Lapras's first type being water. Lapras used water gun to take out half of Ninetails's hp. Ninetails uses ember again and lands another critical hit. Lapras used Water gun. Ninetails used Ember. Lapras used water gun and KO'd Ninetails. Lapras grew to lv 42.
    Trainer 2 fight happens. He sends out Vulpix, I chose Lapras. Lapras used sing which didn't affect Vulpix. Vulpix used confuse ray to make Lapras confused. Lapras hurt itself in confusion as Vulpix tried to use confuse ray again. Lapras used water gun and KO'd Vulpix. A second Lv 36 Vulpix is sent out. Lapras hurts itself in confusion. Vulpix used Flamethrower. Lapras snaps out of confusion and KO's vulpix with water gun. Ninetails at lv 36 is sent out. Ninetails uses Quick Attack. Lapras used water gun. Ninetails uses Tail whip to lower Lapras's defense, Lapras uses water gun to KO Ninetails.
    I heal lapras with a lemonade and move on to Trainer 3. He sends out lv 34 Ponyta. Lapras uses water gun to one hit KO Ponyta. He sends out Charmander lv 34. Lapras KO's charmander using one water gun attack. Trainer sends out a lv 34 Vulpix. KO'd with one water gun. Now Growlithe at lv 34. Lapras uses watergun to KO him.
    Trainer 4 battle happens rather quickly. He sends out a lv 41 Ponyta. Ponyta uses Firespin but misses. Lapras counters with water gun that takes out 80% of its enemy's HP. Ponyta hits with firespin, and Lapras can't move. This goes on for...9 turns before I switch with Gyarados. Ponyta tries using growl but fails. Gyarados uses surf to finish Ponyta.
    I use a fresh water to recover most of Lapras's HP and move on to trainer 5. He sends out lv 41 Rapidash. I send out Lapras. Rapidash uses growl to lower Lapras's attack. Lapras uses watr gun to take out half Rapidash's health. Rapidash uses growl again. Lapras uses water gun again to finish him off. Lapras grows to level 43.
    Trainer 6 starts off with a lv 37 Vulpix and I send out Lapras again. Lapras uses water gun to take out 99% of Vulpix's HP, Vulpix counters with flame thrower. Lapras then uses water gun to finish Vulpix off. Growlithe at level 37 then comes out to fight. Lapras uses water gun to wipe him out quickly.
    Trainer 7 battle begins with lv 37 Growlithe. Wiped out quickly with one water gun attack. Then comes lv 37 Vulpix. Lapras uses water gun to wipe out 99% of his HP, and vulpix counters with flamethrower, only this time it gave Lapras a burned status ailement. Lapras uses water gun to finish Vulpix off.
    Now for Blaine, the Cinnabar island Gym Leader. He starts out with lv 42 Growlithe, and I chose Lapras. Lapras used water gun to take out 95% of Growlithe's health and is hurt by its burn. Growlithe uses ember, and Lapras is nwo down to 31 HP of its 174. Lapras finishes off Growlithe with water gun. I switch out Lapras for lv 44 Gyarados as Blaine sends out his lv 40 Ponyta. Gyarados uses surf to wipe out Ponyta. Next came the lv 42 Rapidash. Gyarados uses Surf to wipe it out with one hit. Blaine then sends out Arcanine lv 47. Gyarados uses surf. It was a critical hit, and wipes out Arcanine in one hit.

    The objectives are simple. Capture pokemon, train the pokemon to take on and beat other trainers, foil Team Rocket's plans, collect all 8 badges of the Kanto Region, beat the Elite 4 and current Champion to become Champion yourself, and then capture all 150 or 151 pokemon.
    Procedure is simple. The player navigates the Kanto region to accomplish all he sets out to do. This may involve interacting with the environment's elements such as picking up items or going into buildings or simply walking into tall grass, caves, or surfing on water to find wild pokemon. If the player walks into the line of sight of an NPC trainer, they must battle. Wild pokemon encounters are determined randomly.
    There are...many resources in Pokemon. Stats such as attack, defense, special, speed, accuracy, elemental types 1 and 2 (some pokemon only have one elemental type), status ailements, experience points, health points, levels, different moves and the number of times a move can be used before needing to be replenished are the resources associated with each pokemon. There are 151 different pokemon you could use. Some pokemon may evolve if they reach a high enough level, or in some rare cases if an elemental stone is used. You can use Pokeballs, Great Balls, Ultra Balls, Safari Balls, or one Master Ball to catch pokemon and they all have varying success rates. The Master Ball can capture any pokemon without fail, but you get only one in the game so you should not waste it. There are numerous battle items as well, such as stat boosting items like X Attack or X Accuracy, Ethers to replenish power points of a move, Status Ailement healing items, and regular HP recovery items. Money is also a resource in this game, and as you can only battle trainers once (save for rechallenging the Elite Four) you need to manage your money carefully as you travel from one part of the region to the next.
    There are a number of rules to go by. If the player wins a trainer battle they get money and experience points. If they lose a battle they lose half their total money and start back at the last pokemon center they visited. The player can only capture wild pokemon, and any attepts to capture trainer pokemon results in the loss of whatever kind of pokeball is used to capture the pokemon. There are some obstacles you cannot get past without having your pokemon use certain HM moves. To capture a wild pokemon, you must have some kind of Pokeball. Your chances of capturing a pokemon are better the lower HP it has and if it possibly has a status ailement, but the status ailement is optional. There are obstacles you may encounter while exploring Kanto such as mazes that involve movement tiles or warp tiles (Team Rocket's base in Celedon or the Silph Co. HQ) that you'll have to navigate properly. Sometimes the caves or routes themselves are mazes. Sometimes the obstacles you face require HM's in order to move further, such as using Cut on a certain kind of tree, Flash to light up dark caves, Strength to push boulders, or Surf to cross water. You cannot swim, you have to use your pokemon to swim for you. The Fly HM is useful as a fast travel method to head back to towns you've visited before. You can only carry 6 pokemon at a time, any more get sent to Bill's Pokemon storage system boxes, each of which can only hold up to 20 pokemon at a time and you have to go to the PC to change the boxes yourself if they get filled up, otherwise you will be unable to capture any more wild pokemon. You can only carry 20 different kinds of items with you in your bag at a time. All Elemental types of Pokemon have different weaknesses or only one weakness.

    The storyline is simple. You play a 10 year old kid who is given a magical pet by your rival's grandfather who happens to be a world authority, expert, and scientist on Pokemon. He gives you and your rival each a pokemon and Pokedex because he asks you both to fullfill his dream of having a complete electronic pokemon encyclopedia. Your payment is literally the unique pokedex device and a starter pokemon. You go explore Kanto and become stronger to collect other kinds of pokemon and eventually prove your strength at the Pokemon League. Along the way you stop criminals and battle your rival, until the eventual final confrontations with Team Rocket's boss Giovanni at the 8th and final Gym, and then the final confrontation with your rival for the title of Pokemon Champion. After that you're then allowed to explore a cave and get the most powerful 1-of-a-kind psychic pokemon Mewtwo, who is also the highest level wild pokemon you can ever fight in the game.

    A good balance between simple and complex to make this a game kids can enjoy and superserious gamers to get competitive about, Pokemon has literally something for all ages to enjoy in my opinion. Throw in the uniquely designed creatures themselves and the fact that unlike other RPG's of the time you use the monsters you find in the game to fight other monsters rather than...cut them down with a sword proved it was gonna stand out from other games and last a long time. 20 years and still counting.

    So Lego Heroica is a simple RPG Lego game meant for ages 8 and up. My Friend and I decided to play the Waldurk version of the game.

    Objectives differ depending on the map, but usually it's either find the Chalice of Life or defeat the Dark Druid.

    There are many Resources in the game. 4 health, a potion that can restore 2 health, a potion that can instantly kill a monster, gold, weapons that add an extra ability to your character, arguably the special ability your character starts with, the Chalice of Life, Chests, Magic Doors and Magic Spaces, and the monsters you kill on a playthrough/round/mission of the game. Resources can carry over to other missions/playthroughs/rounds of the game. As my friend and I did not purchase any weapons from the store I will not list the bonus abilities they grant.

    Procedure wise is that the player rolls a die and moves their character around the board.

    The die is used in movement, combat, and the results of opening chests. It's a six sided lego die with 4 different kinds of faces. There are two 3-sword sides to the die and two 2-skull sides to the die, along with one Heroica Shield side and one 1-sword-skull side on the die. The numbers pretty much help show how many spaces you can move, with Heroica Shield allowing you to either use your special Ranged ability or move 4 spaces. In combat if you roll the sword, you kill the monster. If you roll the skull, you lose health equal to the monster's strength and move back one space. If you roll the skull-sword side, you kill the monster, lose health based on the monster's strength, and move back a space. If you roll the Heroica shield, you can kill the monster or activate the character's Melee Skill.

    The characters the player can choose from each have a unique ability they start with. The Barbarian has a Melee skill that lets him kill all adjacent enemies and move one space. The Druid has a ranged ability that lets him restore health to full. The Ranger has a ranged ability that lets him take out a monster 5 spaces away in a straight line and move one space after doing so.

    There are three kinds of enemies: The Spiders, Werewolf, and Dark Druid. There is only one Dark Druid. The Spiders have 1 strength, the Werewolves have 2 strength, and the Dark Druid has 3 strength. The Monsters are stationary unless we decided to include Battle Heroica rules, in which one player would play as all the monster against the "Hero" players.

    If a player character dies, he must remain stationary and roll every turn until they have recovered their full health, the Heroica shield even allowing an insta heal.

    In both play sessions, I played the Barbarian and my friend played the Ranger.

    First Play Session: Friend killed two spiders, two werewolves, and the Dark Druid. He collected one gold and the health potion. I killed two spiders and one werewolf, got one gold coin, got boobytrapped by the treasure chest on the map. I eventually got the Chalice of Life. We both died at least once.

    Second Play Session: Friend killed two spiders, two werewolves, collected a total of 4 gold by the end of the game. I collected four gold total, used the strength potion to kill a werewolf, killed two spiders, and killed the dark druid.

    It's a relatively simple tabletop RPG boardgame that can easily be enjoyed by kids or RPG players, or even people who don't often play tabletop RPGs. Every time I've shared this game or its variations with other people, they always have a good time. The game's rules encourge experimenting with the map and rules, as the whole point of legoes is to be creative. I'd personally say these games capture the spirit of both Legoes and boardgames perfectly in that regard. The board is assembled yourself, and the two maps included in the game are very easy straightforward maps. While you are playing "hero" characters, you're usually also competing against your fellow players, unless you're using the rules where one player is the monsters and everyone else are the heroes.
