This playthrough was so difficult because there was so much happening with my police officers. Every day their was multiple police officers that were drunk or too tired to work. I couldn’t let them all take the day off or else I would have no one on shift. Then a case went wrong and three officers died so I was even more sort staffed. At on point I had eleven officers out of 20 possible officers. Right now there is not a lot of people that are applying so I do not think I will ever have a full staff again. To make matters worse the mayor ordered me to send police officers to a LGBT rally so I sent some people over there and then pretty soon I’m getting taken to court because of unjust force. So in order to save my skin I forged a blackmail note written by the church. Hopefully the court buys it and I do not get into trouble. I do feel kind of bad for blaming the church but I feel worse about losing money in order to black mail them. After the trail four officers quit because the church was talking bad about me so trying to stop crime with a short staff is tough. I am only playing a video game and police work is stress full. I can not even imagine what it must be like for real police officers trying to stop crime while short staffed. In the story Jack is hiring a private detective to find his wife so hopefully that works out. I also was able to chew through a bunch of investigation cases so now I am not behind on those. And in doing this I shut down a criminal organization to earn me thirty thousand dollars. Jack mentioned that he wanted to finish his police career with I think a half million, but I am not even close to that much. Hopefully down the line I can run into some big amounts of money.

For this game log I have decided to play This Is the Police. I bought this game a while back and never was able to finish it. I did not get too far in my previous playthrough, so I continued with the current game. It took me a little while to remember where I was at in the story and what already happened, but I think I know the situation that Jack Boyd is in. I really love the strategy that this game offers. Whether it is deciding on how many officers you assign or who is allowed time off. Then the game will offer other challenges to spice up the day to day police chief duties. The simplistic art style is something that I really like and the voice acting by each character makes every situation feel more real. Jack Boyd is an interesting character that I enjoy learning more about. He does things that I really respect and then he goes ahead and does something that I do not like which really makes him more interesting. The corruption that goes on in this police department makes me wonder what other police departments in the real world do to survive. There is so much evil that could be going on and people would never know. Another cool aspect about this game is how the game has made me care about certain police officers. I still have officers that have been around from the beginning or they have a perfect case completion, so I really get angry if one of them dies or fails a certain case. The investigation part of the game is so hard. I waste so many days just waiting for more frames to come in when I already have all the necessary pieces to complete the sequence. Maybe this is how real-life investigators feel when they have the answer right in front of them, but they can’t figure it out. The story had a huge turn of events that makes future outcomes very interesting. But also, it has made the day to day police officer work a lot crazier. One day I was working with just four police officers, so I failed so many assignments that day. I really hope that doesn’t affect any outcomes in the future.

Nier Automata again has brought up interesting moral situations. Before I decided to delve deeper into the main story I wanted to chip away at more side quests. One side quest stood out to me very strongly. A character that I have meet before contacted me and asked if I could help her out. So, I meet up with her and she gave me a fish to eat. She warned me that it could kill me and not to get mad at her if I did, but characters in games just say this to scare you. When I ate the fish, I did die and I had to start back where I last saved. Luckily, I save often so I didn’t have to redo too much but I still hate this person for giving me that fish. She did warn me, but games usually don’t kill you like that. Sometime later I thought back on that quest and really admired the game for killing me like this. It is very creative and shows that this game is full of surprises. Next, I continued with the main story and things got even more uncomfortable. I had to battle through a great number of enemies all fighting to protect their king. I did not want to harm the king and we were just instructed to talk with him. But every enemy that saw me would charge and fight for this king. Once I got to the throne room to chat with the king I find that the king is a baby that doesn’t speak. Did this group of machines all come together and make a baby machine baby, or did they find it? Either way they probably did not trust any outsider and were very hostile towards everyone so that this baby could be safe. To this point the machines have showed so many emotions that they should not be able to have. Could machines eventually learn all these different emotions? Right after I see this baby machine I was really hoping my character wouldn’t hurt the baby. Then another android like me comes flying in and stabs the baby! Command calls in and says that this android is rogue, and we need to kill it. Surprisingly the rogue android did not start attacking me. I wanted to talk to it but then my stupid side kick 9S starts shooting at it. This was one of the hardest fights so far but of course it got away. My character asks this android why it betrayed the organization and she responds dramatically saying that the organization has betrayed me. Its hard for me to believe it when it just stabbed a baby machine, but I guess anything is possible now. The game then skips over the fact that a baby had an army willing to die for it and that this baby was just murdered. I really wanted to dig deeper into this story and figure out how this happed. Maybe later in the game these questions will be answered.

During this playthrough I started off by fighting these massive machines. This battle happed right after I was getting along with the nice machines. This does make me question these nice machines again. The battle against the massive machines was surprisingly easy but once they were defeated they created a massive sinkhole in the map. This creation then reveled alien life in the sinkhole! I wasted no time and jumped right in. Once I reached this large control center deep underground I found all the aliens were dead. Then popped up these human looking machines that declared that they killed them, and they wanted the humans next. This fight was more challenging, but the machines got away. These machines that I just got done fighting are just like me so who is to say that my character’s organization won’t turn on the humans.
After this battle I decided to finish the side quests that piled up. But it seemed like every side quest that I finished three more would pop up. The command center would constantly be sending me on more and more missions. The characters even mentioned how they were getting tired too and even feeling over worked; I also was feeling this two. When I play video games I enjoy all the extra activities along with the main story. But at a certain point when I was playing I felt overwhelmed. This had to be an emotion the game designers wanted the player to feel. Just like the androids where feeling overworked, so is the player. I personally like this feature because it is a feeling I have never had before in any video game. Video games should be able to mess with our emotions like this because the experience will be more rewarding in the end.
