As I progressed farther, I encountered the first boss, a hulking monolith of a robot. It looked nothing like the enemies I had previously faced, but I fought on. As the fight drew on, it started chanting kill, kill, kill, kill. 2B acknowledged this, commenting that she didn't know the machines were capable of sentience. After losing my partner 9S, and using the robots own arm to defeat it, 2B is then greeted by three more of these giant machines, chanting kill. 2B, showing more emotion over 9S than ever before, use their black cubes to destroy the area around them, killing them and the machines. This is when 2B and 9S are resurrected, letting the player feel as if they'd already lost a character. It's introduced that all these humans are androids created by humans to get rid of the alien machines that invade Earth. 2B is different than she was before, she kept her memory of the incident, she starts to show snippets of emotion, what she told 9S, to discard.

    Sep 25th, 2018 at 00:51:21     -    Nier Automata (PC)

As I've started the game, the first impressions I'm given of the enemies and environment are of how cold it is, how industrialized and machine-like everything is. As the enormous map is introduced, there are only a few things with any emotion, a few birds, some greenery, and your partner 9S, who shows a few emotions when first talking with 2B. He states how glad he is to have a partner, and is immediately scorned by 2B, who states emotions are prohibited, causing him to fluster up. This happens in between snippets of combat between robot enemies, as you continue, the robots adapt, coming in different shapes and sizes, and slowly increase in difficulty. I'm excited for what's to come.

As I closed out the game, it became more and more clear that every character in the game wears a mask, as each of the guests boarding the ship has a much darker skin tone than their mask. As these giant figures shuffle along, you find around every single turn, someone is trying to eat you, and even if they can't, they return to stuffing their faces. After all this, you become hungry once again, with a little gnome holding a sausage, as to help satiate your hunger. I knew what was coming, but the game didn't give me a choice. The game made me kill what I wanted to save, not even giving me a chance or opportunity to save the little gnome as six chewed through it. As I went through the lady's chambers, I knew it would come. As I defeated her, she lay on the ground struggling to get up, her neck exposed to me as six's stomach growled once again. Never given a choice. I had to do it. As I bit into her neck, the darkness swirled around me, I had gained her powers. Six then walked down the aisle, as I was left, as each guest around me died as they tried to eat six. Each pig meeting their fate quickly, as all I could do was walk forward, their necks snapping, their breath halting. I was powerless to do anything but watch.

As I descend into a darker atmosphere, there is less and less relatability with six. As her hunger intensifies, she even eats a live rat stuck in a trap. Mirroring how the children from earlier in the game are shown to be turned into meals by the twin chefs. The only respites of hope now are finding lanterns and gnomes. Giving each gnome a hug as I uncover the secret areas where they hide gives me something to look forward too. But at the same time, I have the choice to sacrifice the gnomes or use them as a distraction. This can lead to hard choices, but I'd rather save the gnomes at any cost, rather than sacrifice them.
