I have recently been notified that I must now take out the gang organization in 4 days. These deadlines make me feel rushed, making me not do my work as well as I should. Being allowed to choose the music really make me fell that some days my actions have more meaning then others. When I choose a fast-paced song, I feel like I’m being put into the middle of someone else problems and am forced to solve them, but when I choose the slower music, I am much calmer and approach problems with a steady head. Today I had my first officers down and it didn’t feel all to bad. The game does an interesting thing of dehumanizing the officers and making the player feel like there is no weigh to their lives. Death is but a setback. There will always be more officers.

Today I found out that the police chiefs wife left him for a younger man. He approaches the situation with little to no emotion, he is very logical. At work he hears that an officer lost her father in a fire and ask for the day off to plan the funeral. I said that she could have the day off and went to continue my work. While dispatching officers, a message pops up telling me to fire all my black officers because gang members are targeting them. How could I perform such a racist act? Next my first homicide case. It was interesting because it felt like I had to do my own police work to solve the case. After my shift, I get some more info about the mafia and how they ran Jack’s friend Kendrick out of town. He asks me to be the mafia’s inside man to save his family and I agree. My next day at work I have my first robbery, which is handled very similar to a homicide case. Day 7 comes around and I am assigned my first large gang case. In these cases, the players is rewarded very well for completing them. I am later notified that I failed to fire the black officers.

This is the Police is an interesting game that puts the player in the role of a retiring police chief in charge of sending police officers out to do certain crimes. Each police officer has a set of stats that will allow them to do better in certain situations and last longer out in the field. These mechanics put the player in an uncomfortable position, forcing them to send officers out. Picking and choosing which officers get put into the most dangerous situations and sometime the player can’t put the best officers in the right situations because they are tired or already out on another task. My time playing put me in many situations where I had to rely in my best judgement to determine which officers’ lives to risk. While the player makes these choices we also get an understanding of who the retiring chief is and how he feels about the people he’s working for.

Sep 26th, 2018 at 00:52:52 - Hitman (PS4) |
Hitman has a hyper-realistic arts style that allows for the actions of the players to carry more weight. The game begins with the player taking control of a bald man who is going to some human testing trial. Human trials are usually un-ethical, but this game take the unethical to a whole other level when I found out that my objective was to kill. Gameplay starts when the player is told to go through the test, which is a scenario, where I must kill man without being detected. The player is put at ease when they are told that this is all a simulation, but the thought still crosses my mind that it might be something more then that. What if I am actually killing people in the game? On top of that you control a character with no moral restraint, willing to do these actions without even batting an eye. Seeing this made killing these people seem a little easier but also made me realize that now in my eyes these peoples live hold less value. My first 30 minutes of gameplay were very eye opening to these facts.
