    Jan 31st, 2007 at 17:23:13     -    Soul Caliber III (PS2)

Soul Caliber III is not only a great 3d fighter, but it is a great two player versus game. This is what an excellent game does, it involves the player using a great one player mode, like the Chronicles of the SWord and then on top of that you can also have a multiplayer mode that will never get old if you play with the right fighters. THis is the reason this makes a great tournament game. As far as the charachter selection for this goes, its all great. Every charachter has their own unique weapon and style of fighting. My personall favorite is Kilik. He uses the Staff as his choice of weapon, ultimately the strongest weapon is the Jangu Staff. Kilik is great at keeping his distance from the fighter yet still efficiently taking life. His staff can also get longer and do sneak and/or surprise attacks on the enemy. An important element of Kilik, as well as the other fighters (except maybe Nightmare) are their kick attacks. Kilik has great kick attacks considering his powerful weapon, he is swift and very fluid. The best part is that he keeps the enemy guessing and that is perhaps the most important key to winning in a game like Soul Caliber.

    Jan 31st, 2007 at 04:13:40     -    Soul Caliber III (PS2)

Soul Caliber III is the latest instalment (released) for the Soul Caliber franchise which started with the series Soul Blade. This is basically a fighter, but much more complex than most. This is a 3d fighter with very detailed environments. Of course it has all the basic fighter menu stuff, such as Arcade Mode, versus mode, and training, but what sets this fighter apart from many is the innovative Chronicles of the Sword mode. This mode plays much like an RPG would, where you get to pick a custom fighter and you follow a very engaging story involving the Sould Caliber Sword. This is what I have played the most. The best part I believe, is the crazy customizations you could do to your charachter. From hair and eye color, to wearing whimsical hats, the way to design your fighter is very detailed. Aside from your charachter you can also assemble a team comprised of fighters who are part of your "kingdom" . Every one of these fighters, including yourselves, may weild a different weapon, and are sutied for certain enemies.
The world where you play is designed much like a gameboard, and like this gamebaord all the fighters you command are assigned certain chess-like moves on the gameboard world. When you run into another fighter on the route you are on, you have to fight the enemy either by engaging in the actual arcade style fight or letting the computer go at it. Its not too complex, but the gameplay time generated by this mode is quite a bit.

    Jan 19th, 2007 at 14:21:59     -    Goldeneye 007 (N64)

Recently I dropped by a friends house to play some Wii, however, what I didn't know is that I would stop playing that after ten minutes and then start playing good old fashioned Goldeneye for the N64. I was looking at someone play the level, and then decided I wanted to play for myself. Im not sure if it was nostalgia, but playing that game was mroe fun than expected. A game like goldeneye is truly timeless, it will always be fun not because of any technical aspects obviously because the shooter has been perfected time and time again. The reason Goldeneye is such a good game and you keep coming back to it is because of the originality of it, it was truly the most addicting game at the time and as a gamer you remember that feeling. Also there are so many memorable levels and charachters in the game that you keep coming back to certain ones and try to pass them on a harder level like 00 agent. Also, Goldeneye happens to be the best multiplayer game on the N64, the reason for this is because everyone knows the game really well, the guns, the levels, the tricks, and the overall build of the game. The 4 player split screen was revolutionary for the multiplayer shooter aspect, and Goldeneyes was flawless and fun.

    Jan 16th, 2007 at 23:51:16     -    Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (PS2)

Street Fighter 3 Third Strike was a really good game to play in a tournment. I played it at the video game tournament and it was pretty fun. It was even more difficult to play another person than it was to play the computer. However, there is not much of an audience for 2dimensional fighting games. A game like street fighter is meant to be played in Arcades mostly, so it is sometimes not rare to have someone play the game with a arcade joystick style controller. I believe it make sthe gameplay easier and makes someone slightly better, ever since the Street Fighter 2 Arcade game came out, games of that two dimensional style are played better with arcade joysticks.
Another aspect which becomes aparent when playing this game more seriously against other players is that everyone plays differently and strategy becomes very important. As I was playing at home I thought this might be the case. The hardest part to do in this game is parry. This parry/counter technique is probably the most game-altering move in the game, with mastering this, you can pretty much own the competition. For this game the hardest part for me to to is countering supermoves.
