    Feb 23rd, 2007 at 02:34:30     -    Mario Party (N64)

So during this game, I'm playing as Luigi, Chris is playing as Peach, T.J. is playing as Donkey Kong, and Mike is playing as Yoshi. We choose the Yoshi Island stage because it has a nice design of an actual beach. We start to play by all landing on blue spaces, which means the mini-game we play for the round will be a free-for-all game. The game involved all of us running away from Boo (the ghost of the Mario series). We all, instead of working together, thought it would be funny to fight along the way so we all ending up losing the round.
We continued to play throughout the game and as the map allowed for various outcomes, each turn seemed to be very different. One of the rounds, I landed on a Bowser space. He ended up taking 20 coins away from me. Although I didn't find it fun, my friends did. Also, there were games that it would split us up so it would be games like two players vs two players or one player vs three players. One of the rounds, the game was T.J. and I vs Mike and Chris in Bombsketball. The objective was for a team to score a basket first. You can also steal the ball by punching or jumping on the other players. This was prolly one of the funniest games we played because we were kicking and screaming throughout the whole game.
I like games like Mario Party, not only because I won overall at the end, because it creates a good bonding for friends to just have fun. That's exactly what happened between us.

    Feb 23rd, 2007 at 02:19:20     -    Mario Party (N64)

Mario Party was the very first game I purchased with my Nintendo 64. The game was very appealing to me as it was the first actual party game I've ever played. The variety this game allows make it a great game to play. Also having three other players alongside you add to the intensity of the game.
Even though there are different characters such as the Nintendo favorites, (Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, etc.), each character is no different than another and allows the game to be completely balanced. Some may hate the fact of similarity but I believe it works well with Mario Party. The objective of each game is to collect more Stars and Coins than the other players by winning Mini-games and going through instances throughout the game.
Having my friends T.J., Chris, and Mike allow me to have fun playing the game. Its great screaming in their faces after winning one round. I'll write more in-depth later.

Feb 9th, 2007 at 02:22:25     -    Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Wii)

After another hour of Marvel Ultimate Alliance, I decided about the gameplay. The Nintendo Wii allows for combos to be much easier by motioning the Wii controller in certain manners. Although it gives a funny and weird impression on observers, my friends and I had fun doing it. Also, certain bosses require the Wii controller to motion in certain manners. One example is when we had to move the controller up, down, left, and right to dodge attacks from the boss. The use of the controller adds variety and fun to Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
The variety of characters also adds to the fun factor. There are different kinds of characters to give all players their choice. When we played, I was the Thing because I like playing as a tank. My friend Mike played as Ironman because he likes characters who also possess some range attacks. My other friend Marlon decided to play as Wolverine because he's more of a melee (close range) fighter who attacks faster than a tank such as the Thing. While playing, Marlon would usually with every round with Wolverine using his rage to attack faster and get competitive points for destroying enemies. Although I attack slower than Mike's character, I would beat him because he would die more often than I did.
Although the graphics of Marvel Alliance on the Wii isn't as good as the graphics on the PS3 version, it doesn't take any from the fun factor of the game. Overall, Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a great game to play with friends or just to have full-throttle fun.

Feb 8th, 2007 at 23:58:47     -    Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Wii)

Marvel Ultimate Alliance has been on my wishlist after playing through the X-men Legends series. Although similiar in the action-rpg elements of X-men Legends, Marvel Ultimate Alliance on the Wii offers new ways to appeal to videogame players. I decided this time to play with friends in the all-new competitive mode in order to add more suspense in our game. The competitive mode keeps the players interested because it honors the best player of the group with more experience and it fun competing against my friends. It was entertaining to people in the other room to hear our screams from the winner of each round in competitive mode. Another benefit of the competitive mode is the extra experience gained can be used to level your own character faster so you can use more stronger supermoves.
If variety in characters is what you looking for, Marvel Ultimate Alliance is the perfect game as there are over 20 playable characters with each having different powers. My friends and I change characters each round due to the variety this game allows. Although my readings from comics about Dr.Doom further appeals to me on the storyline of the game, prior knowledge of the Marvel Universe isn't necessary to enjoy this game. The cut scenes drew one of my friends into the game and influenced him to read the Marvel comics to learn more.
I haven't played any game like this since the X-men Legends series over a year ago and now this game encouraged me to create an action-rpg on Gamemaker. Well I will report more on the gameplay in my next entry. Hopefully I'll win more rounds so I can pay attention more to the environment while playing instead of thinking only about winning the round.
