I picked Goldeneye: 007 for the N64 because I have so many fun memories attached to playing this game during all hours of the night when I was a little kid. I chose to play the bunker 2 because I remember how fun it was to break out of the jail cell undetected. I remember how hard it was to beat on 00 agent mode so I just tried it on the secret agent difficulty. The beginning of the level made me laugh because I forgot how fun it was to karate chop that first guard after you use the watch to pull the prison cell key. I got pretty far without any of the guard setting off the alarm. I still have fun with this game even though I thought the graphics were much more amazing to me when I was younger. Make sure to pop some caps it all of the video cameras of you’ll get rushed by more guards.
I just played the part titled “Fates Worse than Death,” which was one of the more exciting earlier levels. A new type of zombie is finally introduced that pounces and grabs a hold of you. This is the first time I actually use the six axis controller for its motion sensing. Once a zombie grabs a hold of you the player must shake his controller to fight it off. One of the cooler features of this game is how every weapon has a second function. This reminds me almost of the cool gun features that were available in Perfect Dark for the N64. The bullseye gun is very important in this level because you need to use homing tags to take down some of the opponents in close range fights. Another worthy adversary is introduced in this level. A type of mine pops out of the ground and shoots a high powered laser in your direction. This became overwhelming for me when I decided to run around the field like a chicken with its head cut off and couldn’t dodge the lasers any longer. I beat this level quickly and am looking forward to more challenges and new guns.
I walked through Best Buy a couple days before Christmas just as a full shipment of PS3’s with the sixty gig hard drive came through the door. At first I didn’t even really want it because I had just purchased an XBOX 360 but of course I bought it on impulse, a 714 dollar impulse with a game. Luckily I bought one of the only half decent titles available for the PS3, Resistance: Fall of Man. Just as a warning I would not play this game unless you purchase the HDMI cable which is not even included with the 60 gig version, it looks terrible with the red, white, and yellow on my 42 inch LCD.
Resistance dives into the 1950’s and your character must fight the Crimean flood which has almost taken over the entire continent of Europe. This game does not have the most interesting plot as it seems to be lacking any substance at times. This first person shooter is not comparable to the Halo series or even Call of Duty. This game is Call of Duty with aliens and is very much an arcade like shooter. Leave all strategy behind because this game is a run and gun shooter. There is no way to regenerate so if you don’t gather health you will simply die and return to the last checkpoint with full health and weapons.
