***OOPS, I made a mistake in the listing. THIS GAME IS FOR GAMECUBE, not PS2.***
Well, I finally found this game for a really nice price at GameStop on Sunday-- Five dollars. I had to pick it up. I had been interested in the game since it was announced--about 2 years or more ago. From the screenshots, it looked like some really cool-futuristic/music based shooter-action game, which is just the type of game that I like. (AND it's from Capcom, my favorite videogame company.) SO, I had very "modest" expectations, to say the least.
I was finally able to play P.N.03 on Monday, and have played it maybe three times since. The first time I turned it on, it was everything I expected. You hit start, there is a short cutscene, you start a mission, there's some briefing on the mission, and BOOM, you're in the game-- No long-winded conversations.
The more I played the game, the more I began to see that it was structured around this notion of short-ness. Each level is broken into a set number of rooms, and you are evaluated based on your performance in each room... Beat a room, get a grade, beat another room, get another grade... and so on. After playing for about 15 mins, I began to realize that there's something very simple about P.N.03, and I can't quite put it into words yet, I haven't gotten far enough, but this is what I have concluded so far...
P.N.03 is all about shooting and dodging, simply put. You shoot to hit, you dodge to NOT get hit. You cannot shoot and move at the same time, so, you have to learn the patterns of the enemies to find openings. The controls, however, suggest something more contrived--- You press A-to shoot, B-to jump, R-to dodge right, L-to dodge Left, Y-to duck, Z-to make 90 degree or 180 degree turns. The analog stick controls the movement of the character in a typical sense, and the C-stick allows limited camera control. There are combinations of buttons as well, such as Y-to duck and then R-to dodge to the right-- creating the ducking dodge... (L-can be used to roll the opposite direction.)
I plan to play the game some more in about two weeks, when I have more time...
