Gamelog #2
GAMEPLAY:
Currently I am battling the eighth colossus and developing a serious addiction to this game. What I like most about this game is the fact that there are no levels to beat, no power ups, and no enemies i have to face in order to get to the boss. You just get to go straight to the boss, which i think is more enjoyable. I have noticed that each colossi is getting more difficult to overcome , which makes it more of a challenge. Each colossi is different visually and behaviorally. Some colossi fly, some are tiger/panther like, some resemble snakes and spiders. After playing for a while, you can see a pattern the colossi makes which makes it more helpful to defeat. Using the L1 button also helps because the camera automatically locks onto the colossi so you always know where it is during battle.
Also what's cool about this game is the beginning and end of each colossus. When you arrive at the destination of each colossi, the colossi reveals itself in a unique way. Some come splashing out of sand or water, or some just walk out of dark caves. After defeating the colossi, you do not ride away to the next colossus. Rather, the shadow of the colossi pierce your body and you end up back in the temple where your dead lover is being held. When you wake up, there are the shadows of the colossi standing over you and when the statue of the colossi shatter, the shadow disappears.
DESIGN:
The design of this game i must admit is pretty flawless. You can see look as far as the eye can see, as if you were really in the land. The most beautiful thing about this game is definitely the environment. The land consists of grassy plains, towering mountains, ancient temple ruins, majestic lakes, sandy deserts, and dark caves. Also, one thing that i find really cool is that when you ride Agro, your trusty steed, to different locations, sometimes a hawk follows you on your journey. The lighting effect add a dramatic effect to the game. Sometimes the game is really sunny but when you enter a forest, or a canyon, the game suddenly gets darker and when using your sword to navigate, the entire screen turns to a shade of blue.
The motion and movement of the character and the horse are very realistic. When the young man calls his Agro, it responds and neighs. Also when riding through the land, the way it changes directions and gallops is exactly like a real horse. Even the hair on the horse moves. When the main character moves throughout the environment, its jump movements, running, and rolling are also very realistic. The sound effects add to the realness of the game. While playing, i noticed the sound of the arrows while firing at the colossus, the galloping and trotting of Agro on different surfaces, and the stabbing of the sword when killing the colossi. The space in the game world is very spacious, similar to Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.

Game log Entry #1
SUMMARY:
Shadows of the Colossus unveils a unique story about a young man who embarks on a mystical journey through an unknown land and must defeat sixteen different colossi in order to free the woman he loves. With only a horse, bow, and sword, the gamer must explore the land to find each creature and when the colossus is revealed, the gamer must use puzzle solving and strategic thinking in order to defeat the gigantic beast.
GAMEPLAY:
When first playing this game, I was spooked because there was an eerie voice coming from the sky and all there was in the game was me and my horse. I found it interesting that in order to discover each colossi, I had to shine my sword in the light. When i encountered my first colossi, i was honestly a little scared because i had to fight something twenty times my height. My first thoughts were, "How the hell do i defeat something so big?!" But it was fun figuring how to get on each colossi and figuring out their weaknesses. The character in the game is unique because the game does not tell you how he got there or what he's there for. Also when starting out, there is no tutorial like other games. So I spent the first few minutes learning the controls.
The story of the game is a little cliche i thought. You must defeat the boss to save the girl, but i guess the difference in this game, you have to defeat sixteen bosses to save your girl. But throughout playing the game, the mystery of the story begins to reveal itself, which keeps me interested in defeating each colossi. Yes i really like this story because there so much mystery involved. The buttons were a little hard to get used to such as hanging on ledges and the hairs of the colossi. Also jumping from ledge to ledge was hard getting used to. You can jump, duck, roll, shoot unlimited arrows and draw your mystical sword.

Jan 14th, 2008 at 12:59:53 - FIFA 08 (Wii) |
SUMMARY: The objective of the game is to choose a team, and then beat other teams and league's in a classic game of soccer, or "football".
GAMEPLAY:
I found FIFA 08, EA's latest soccer game, to be very fun and enjoyable. FIFA 08 has more realism, authenticity, and more skill moves to use while playing on the field such as step overs, lane changes, and 360 roulettes. It obligates the game player to use the entire team to beat the opposing side instead of just using one individual person on a team. Also, the artificial intelligence of the computer is much better than previous FIFA's because it adapts to the game players strategies throughout the game.
The game has many different modes such as manager mode, online play, and the new Be A Pro: Co-op Season mode. I especially enjoy this game when playing the multiplayer mode with another person. Like most sports games, multiplayer modes can get very exciting. While playing this game with my roommate, I felt adrenaline and excitement as i was trying to break through the defense of the opposing side. When either on of us scored a goal, we both found ourselves getting out of our chairs, yelling, "GOOAAAALLLL IN YOUR FACE!!!". The game definitely establishes competition not just between teams in the game, but between people who are doing the game playing.
The controls were a bit difficult for me to get used to but like any game, once you get to playing the game, the controls become 2nd nature. The design of the game is very unique. The characters in the game have very good A.I. because they have facial expressions and emotions when the referee gives out a red card or when the opposing team scores a goal. Also, when approaching a goal, the audience begins to cheer even harder, which provides motivation for the gamer. The one thing I do not like about this game is that the announcers get repetitive with the things they say. But other than that, this is a very great game for people of all ages, especially sports gamers.
DESIGN:
This game was very well designed too. They have two languages to choose from, English and Spanish. There are also 30 leagues to play with and over 120 different stadiums to play in. While playing career mode, the game starts out with easier teams to beat but as the gamer progresses, teams become harder to beat. I would say a challenge that the game provides is the ability of the computer to adapt to your strategy. For example, if I tried to score a goal one particular way, the computer learns to defend in certain areas, which causes the gamer to find a new strategy. When trying to find different ways to over come the opposing side, it keeps the gamer interested in the video game.
This game provides excellent social interaction with other gamers because while playing, you are always trying to get the ball. When you have the ball, your objective is to make a goal but it gets frustrating because it's not easy. So when you actually make a goal, it just becomes that much more rewarding. Overall, the design of the game is pretty flawless with its authenticity and realism. The characters in the game show emotion and personality.
