    Gamelog Entry #2

    GAMEPLAY-

In the second part of playing Bejeweled I played action, the one where the player is being timed. While playing the game I realized that I work better under pressure because it is easier for me to match three jewels. I loved the exhilaration that came with feeling like there was no time left. It was like a feeling of mischief, but with excitement. I kept progressing throughout the whole game and reaching very high scores. I liked action better than the classic Bejeweled.

The game was really interesting to play because I was trying to go as fast as I could without losing concentration and determination. I never seemed to lose interest in the game; there was always something to look forward to. The game progression for action was really fun because once I met a certain requirement I would move on to the next level where the time ran out faster and I had less time to find the matching jewels. Overall the game progression went really well and it was not boring. My interactions with other players was also what made this game more fun because I was able to get input from my bystanders when I couldn’t find any more moves. The flow while playing seemed and was endless.

    DESIGN-

Bejeweled carries very well developed elements because of the techniques the player has to find and enhance. Through the game the player has to recognize the time and matching jewels all at the same time making it very challenging. I really like the sound effects of Bejeweled because it makes the player feel like they are part of the world which makes the game more involving. The design elements that make this a good game are the new techniques that have been added and different types of ways to play Bejeweled.

For the action part of Bejeweled the game is more challenging because the player is being timed. When the player stops making moves the time runs out faster making the player feel under pressure which makes everything more complicated. Being under pressure causes me to have a hard time seeing the matches between the jewels meaning that my time runs out fast. The game creates conflict between the player and time because the player is competing with time and pressure. The game also creates conflict by making the player feel pressured and making it harder for the player to make the next move. Having such a challenge makes me want to keep beating time and beat my score. The game keeps me interested because I love the feeling of playing under pressure.

I really like the way the game’s setting is designed because it makes me feel like I am part of the world. I like going through the wrap in the game because it makes me feel like I am in a ride which makes the next level more exciting. The idea of moving from one planet to the next also makes the game interesting because it seems to add some sort of story behind to the game.

The reward structure of the game was moving on to the next level and gaining extra points making my score one of the high scores. I wouldn’t change anything about the game because I really had fun playing it and I never lost interest. Overall Bejeweled is addicting!

    Gamelog Entry #1

    SUMMARY-

For my gameplay I decided to play Bejeweled 2. I was able to pick between action, puzzle, endless and classic. Within those I picked to play classic because it was the original one. Overall it was really exciting because I was entertained throughout the whole game and I never lost interest.

    GAMEPLAY-

My emotional state while playing the game was anticipation. I couldn’t wait to get to the next level and see the new ways to play Bejeweled. All I wanted to do was to keep playing the game over and over again. All I kept thinking about was beating my score; technically I was competing against myself. Seeing that there really aren’t any characters in the game besides the jewels I would have to say that the jewels are interesting characters. I really like the sound the jewels make when they move down. I think that the character of the jewel was well emphasized and it makes the game more fun when the items are used in a unique way.

Since Bejeweled doesn’t necessarily have a game narrative I really do like the levels. Each time the game advances it becomes a bit more difficult and exciting to play. I like how Bejeweled has different options on how to play the game such as a puzzle, action, endless and classic. Having options allows the player to have opportunities and not lose interest in the game.

Bejeweled was really fun to play because I always had something to do. All I wanted was to keep playing because I wanted to beat my own score and solve the puzzles. I also had the ability to switch between categories which made the game exhilarating. The game was really interesting to play because of all the new additions that have been added.

I received very good social interactions because my friends kept trying to help me solve the puzzle. I think that Bejeweled is a great game to play with friends.

    Game Entry #2

    GAMEPLAY-

In my second gameplay experience my emotion was excitement. I was playing a battle game against someone else. I really like games that involve competition because it makes the game more interesting and exciting to play. In the battle games both players are allowed to choose the character that they want to be. I like being able to choose my character but I wish I was able to create my own character with the characteristics I choose.

The storyline of this gameplay was different from the first gameplay because it was a battle between two opponents. Within this gameplay the results varied because the players didn’t know who was going to win. The narrative progression was based on the layers fighting against each other and seeing who the best was. At first the storyline is fun but after playing for too long the game because boring because both players get tired of trying to win. The battle games are the best games the player is allowed to interact with other players making the game more interesting. The interaction between my opponent was competition because we were both trying to win. In the end we both shared victories and losses that made the game fun and interesting.

    DESIGN-

An element that I liked of the game was being able to get lives fast. Gaining lives was not as challenging as it is in other games. One thing I didn’t understand about the game was what the other items were used for. All I know is that I kept collecting them. The good design element of this game was the way the characters would move. I liked their fighting moves because since the characters are monkeys they use their tails. The bad element design was the camera angle. There were points in the game where I couldn’t see where the character was going or who was attacking me.

In the battle game there aren’t any levels because the player versus their opponent. The only difficulty in this game is finding our target and being able to fight them. The game isn’t much of a challenge instead it is tedious because it takes too long to destroy your opponent. The game provides the challenge of looking for new lives throughout the setting of the battle. Fighting with your opponent is what keeps the game interesting because it is fun to see each other fight. The competition is what keeps the player going in this game. The game creates conflict between the player and its opponent. By providing lives makes it harder to have a winner.

The tone of the gameworld is jungle. This tone is set through the trees and water in the middle of the room. In the setting there are vines hanging from the ceiling and most of the walls look ancient. Throughout the game I didn’t really understand the reward structure because I didn’t know how to use the items against my opponent. The only reward that I did like was being able to beat my opponent.

    Gamelog Entry #1

    SUMMARY-

For my gameplay I decided to play Donkey Kong 64. Within this game the player can battle other opponents or find the missing items in order to solve the mystery. I decided to play solve the mystery because it has a storyline which makes it fun to look for the missing items in all of the different little islands. Each island has different obstacles that the player has to face making the game more challenging.

    GAMEPLAY-

My emotional state while playing the game went from interesting to boring. After trying to figure out where all the missing items were and not being able to find them, I found myself frustrated. The storyline was too restricting for me and there were only certain things I could do. Most of the game I spent my time wondering around the different islands. One of the things that I did like was being able to switch characters whenever I pleased. Even though I didn’t switch characters for wise reasons, it was nice to have a change when I got tired of the character I was. Something I didn’t like about my characters was that they were very slow which made it complicated to get my items at a fast pace.

At first my storyline seemed very interesting but the more I played the less interest I had. The storyline became very tedious because it was going slow and I couldn’t find the items. Overall everything that occurred in the game felt repetitive and all I wanted was to stop playing. Not being able to create my storyline and having to follow one makes everything boring. I lost interest in the game because couldn’t find the items, I was restricted and I didn’t have any long term goals. The game seemed to be overwhelming.

While playing the game I had bystanders who also became tedious with the game and tried to help but realized that it has more complicated than it looked. There was a point in the game where I was trying to open the gate, to get one of the golden bananas, but in order to open the gate I had to push a button that only gave me eight seconds to run across. Each time I tried it I never made it which made me frustrated. I guess Donkey Kong is about technique.
