Gamelog #1
"SUMMARY"
- Mario and his twin, Luigi are being delivered by the stork to their parents when one of Magikoopa's creatures tries to kidnap them. Mario lands in an island full of dinosaurs (yoshis) and Luigi is held captive by Magikoopa. You play as different Yoshis carrying Mario through different levels of the game, fighting Magikoopa's creatures and getting through obstacles. The goal of the game is to beat all levels which will lead to rescuing Luigi and bringing him and his twin, Mario, to their parents.
"Gameplay"
- Playing Super Mario 2 is a great experience. The levels of the game are very colorful and the graphics are great (considering the low graphics capability of the Super Nintendo console). The levels of the game are full of obstacles and enemies, which creates difficulty and excitement when trying to beat each area.
Enemies keep getting bigger and badder throughout the game and the levels become more complex. Another factor that keeps the game fresh and interesting are boss battles which are all different and get more difficult as the game progresses.
The game and the level layout are simple, but the character (Yoshi) has many functions and abilities. This kept me entertained. Using Yoshi's many abilities, such as eating enemies and creating eggs out of them which can be used as projectiles, gives the player a lot of control of the game. The fact that Yoshi has many functions in the game is excellent because it makes getting through a level unique every time.
The levels are full of life and every level is different. Traveling through caves, jungles, forests, and the sea makes every level unique and fun. The music in the game is very cheerful. And gathering coins, flowers and stars to get lives is very fun. As well as the bonus challenges and puzzles found throughout the levels.

"Gameplay"
After playing the game for the second 45 min. interval I noticed the diversity of the levels and obstacles. The levels of the game vary a lot in the types of adversaries and the difficulty of physical obstacles presented. Another factor that keeps the levels fresh is the increasing difficulty to find hidden puzzles. As well as the difficulty of the challenges.
After playing for the first 45 I came to know other abilities that Yoshi has. As the game progresses the story of the game begins to unfold and lets the player understand what is going on. Besides the very repetitive music, I believe that the game is great and is fun throughout all levels.
"Design"
The design of the game was very interesting. Compared to other Mario Bro's games, Yoshi's Island is very colorful and the mood of the game is gleeful rather than feeling like in a timed race to rescue the princess. The levels are pictured in color-pencil painted sceneries. Most of the enemies even appear friendly (enemy flowers). As well as new design to the levels, compared to previous Mario games, Super Mario 2 kept many aspects of the others such as the green tunnels, and the carnivorous plants.
The level design keeps the players interested because of the variations of levels. There are many different levels, each one structured differently. This allows for a sense of freshness in the game after every level; Yoshi travels through the caves, the underground, in the jungle and in the desert.
The enemies presented in every level and the increasing difficulty for defeating them are great in making every level unique. Many times the enemies aren't tough but the structure of the level works with the interaction of the creatures in the game which creates inconvenient pathways for the player. The actual length of each level is really short but the levels are arranged in a great way. This makes the levels increase in difficulty because of the more enemies and traps placed in the level.
