    Feb 8th, 2008 at 23:46:49     -    Trapt (PS2)

    Gameplay:

As the game continues you get money to buy more traps; each trap is more brutal and vicious as the game goes on as well. It's fun setting up "obstacle courses" for your opponents to go through, who get killed by the end anyways.

However, like many games like this, the gameplay becomes repeatative. It's the same thing over and over again: kill 2 enemies at a time, next level, etc. It seems like a gaome that would be fun to play once in awhile, but I couldn't see myself sitting in front of the T.V. for days on end, trying to unlock all the different endings and get all the traps. What I have found fun though is the survival mode. Unlike most of the actual story mode, I have yet to beat survival mode.

    Design:

The reason this game stood out to me was because I've never played a game like it. It's not the best type of game I've ever played, but it was definately worth a play through. The graphics are ok, the storyline is complex (with like 4 different endings), and the characters are likeable.

The levels are designed for setting up the most vicious of traps you could possibly set up. You could roll a boulder down some stairs and hit an enemy who was caught in an iron maiden, and then coup de grace them with electricity. With all the traps in the game, like a pendelum, bear trap, guillotine, or buzzsaw (these are only a few examples of the many traps), the possibilities are nearly endless.

If you're an RPG person, give this game a shot. I'm sure you'd find yourself pleased with the overall game.

    Feb 8th, 2008 at 23:35:33     -    Trapt (PS2)

    Summary:

Trapt is an RPG game about a princess named Allura, who was framed for killing her father. Allura runs away from home to an abandoned mansion, where she is given the power to set traps almost anywhere. As the game progresses, you get more traps, unlock rooms, and get kills added to your count.

    Gameplay:

At first, the gameplay was addicting because I'd never played an RPG like this one. Usually, RPG's are turn based or hack and slash, but in this case, your character is almost defenseless.

The point of the game is to lure all your enemies into traps and trigger the trap as the enemy gets in it's range. You must continue to trick your enemies into these traps until there are no more enemies left, in which case, you move on to the next level.

Like most every game, this one also has it's downsides. Because this is a semi-old PS2 game, the graphics aren't that intense; in fact, at times, the A.I. is just plain dumb. An example would be if you get to close to anybody, including an ally, they will attack you (to compensate, you don't really have that many allies). I only ran into this problem once, but I've found that keeping my distance from anybody (except archers or mages) is a pretty sure way of survival.

    Jan 25th, 2008 at 18:55:52     -    E.V.O.: Search for Eden (SNES)

    Gameplay:

As you play the game, it gets progressively funner as you evolve. The part where you're a fish is like a tutorial; oince you become an amphibian, you can evolve much more and become a lot stronger.

The only problem I've run into was that the gameplay gets repeatative. It gets annoying killing the same creatures over and over again in order to upgrade yourself. I find that if you play through the game killing as you go it's funner, yet morew challengeing.

    Design:

What I think makes this game good is that it's unique. It's nothing too special, but it touches on a topic that I've never seen any other game do. It feels almost like a really fun and interesting history lesson of dinosaurs, though not quite 100% accurate.

For a game made in the 1990's, it has some pretty good levels, although most of them are point A to point B kinds of levels. However, when you're swimming, you get a really accurate under water feel of the character. As well as that, if you upgrade to move fater or jump higher, you can really feel it in your character.

E.V.O. is a really fun game. I would suggest it to anybody who is looking for a good RPG.

    Jan 25th, 2008 at 17:24:04     -    E.V.O.: Search for Eden (SNES)

    Summary:

E.V.O.: Search for Eden is a game that basically shows you the beginning of life on Earth and the stages of evolution. Your character starts the game as a small fish and must kill to become larger and stronger. After reaching a certain point, you turn into a basic amphibian. You must kill and evolve again, becme a dinosaur, a mammal, etc.

    Gameplay:

I have to say that the killing and leveling up is a tedious experience, but once you put that aside, it's a lot of fun killing random animals and eating their remains (do not be deceived by my description; the game is not very violent at all). For every creature you eat, you get some experience, which can be used to evolve yourself. Some evolutions make you stronger, others give you more health at the sacrifice of speed, and others make you really fast. The point is to make the strongest creature you can and kill your way through the game.

E.V.O. is quite similar to many SNES games with it's side scrolling aspect, but the evolving of your character makes this game unique. You don't necessarily have to buy the most expensive things; instead, you can buy many smaller upgrades, like shark fin, tail, jaws, etc. You can also save your evolutions and use them in a different game, but it wears off after 1 minute.

For me, this game is amazing mainly because I've always been very interested in prehistoric life. The game truly captures the idea of evolution and puts in actual creatures that used to live, such as the cockroach ancestor, sabretooth tigers, and even t-rex. If you're into dinosaurs or other prehistoric life, give this game a try.
