    Game Entry #2:

    Gameplay:
I played the first entry for about 10 hours and at this point in time I am at about 30 hours into the game. In this game I really enjoyed doing the Hunts. The Hunt system is where you go and get a bill that someone has placed and then you track down the person who posted it. For one reason or another there is a monster giving the person who posted the bill trouble. You will then after talking to the person you will go kill the monster and come back. When you get back they will pay you and give you some items for your time and work. I make it a point to do all of the hunts I can and I have spent a lot of time to lvl up and make sure I can handle doing all of them. I now have all 6 people and because it is so easy to switch them in and out of battle I make sure to week them all the same lvl; they are currently lvl 28. I have been enjoying the game a lot but I am taking a break from it to play some other games atm. This game reminds me a lot of FFXI and gave me the urge to play that more.

    Design:
I would say the game design elements that stick out for FFXII the most is the party/battle/license systems. First off the battle of the game are someone interesting at first but can get very boring. Because I like to program I liked the gambit system a lot so I made sure I used it to is fullest. This means the not matter who I had out in my party all I really needed to do is run the leader of the group around and the gambit system would do the best. I would say one of the main things that kept me playing is the characters, the clan system, the licenses and the story. I really didn't have to do anything in the battles unless I went and did a hunt so I decided to try and get my people's licenses maxed out and my clan rank as much as I can. This means that I would have to go around and kill a lot of one enemy so that I can get the data on it and therefor bring up my clan rank. I really liked the character and I enjoyed the narrative story. The license system at first was annoying because I didn't know where anything was or what to do with each character but once I got a feel for what I actually wanted my people to do it opened up a lot of potential work for the license grid. A thing that makes this game stand out is that if one of the characters in your party is dead or not being attacked by the enemy you can switch them out for someone else in menu. This style make it so that you really have a 6 man team and if you use them to their fullest then you feel a lot less restricted. Overall I liked this game a lot but I kinda got bored with it and I will definitely come back to it later and finish it off because of the nice characters and story.

    Game Entry #1:

    Summary:
FFXII started off as an intro lvl to help you get an understanding of the game. You started off with someone special and then later switched. The main guy is looking to be a sky pirate but you soon learn that is just a facade. It is an average style RPG with real-time battle like FFXI.

    Gameplay:
First off the fighting in this game is based off FFXI and the world is set in FFTA. I really like the fighting style in FFXI and therefore I also like this fighting style. It is real-time so the character can do certain actions and it has a certain amount of time for them to do that action. There is a gambit system, which is a lot like a set of if statements if "this" then do "this". The gambits are how you control the other two people in your group without telling them what to do every second. The further you get in the game the more actions you can have the gambits say(ie "this"). The abilities in this game must be first bought off of a license grid for each person and then bought in the shop(for everyone) before they can do anything. This license system is slightly annoying but i got used to it. The beginning of the story took a while to get all the characters that you would use but when you did it opened up a lot for things for you to do. In the first game play I only obtained 3 of the 6 people but I can only use 2 of them at the time.

    Game Entry #2:

    GAMEPLAY:
From this point I full control of what I can do. I was supposed to go to a certain town but if my memory serves me correct I can get a very good item in this town. So before I head over to that town I had to do some lvling. Just like all RPG's it takes a considerable amount of time to get something that is good. Fortunately I know what I need to do to get it early on in the game. I am not about 5 hours into the game and I am almost able to get the game. The lvling has been fun because the monsters are interesting and are not bland in any way.

I know that lvling up early on in the game is not exactly what the programmers intended but there is an item that I can't get unless I do so. So they made lvling somewhat difficult for me. To be able to gain lvls at a quicker rate I needed to fight stronger monsters. I did not really mind that I would have crappy equipment when I fight because that is what I get for lvling early but it was a problem when I would get a status ailment suck as paralyze or stone and none of the shops sell something to cure it. I finally found something to cure the paralyze but it was half way across the world. Overall I am happy about what I am doing because the goal is worth the work.

    DESIGN:

A great part of the design of this game is that they took all of the great basic rules or standards for RPG's and brought them up the the next lvl. In most RPG's you have spells and skills and what not to make your party stronger. In this game you can't just lvl up and get all your skills. You have to be taught certain things from shops that will give you traits. Once you have some of those traits you can get better or lvl those skills up. Through combinations of curtain traits you can gain special skills. These combinations are not told to you so you have to figure them out. This leads you to play the game more to figure out what all the skills are and what ones are more helpful then others.

Another thing that the player want to continue playing is that there are so many variations of this game it find it to be almost overwhelming. As previously stated there are 12 different characters and 87 different endings. I find this game to be very fun and the fact that there are so many posibilities makes me want to play this game a lot. I want to be able to try out every character on my team and see what skills that can get. The story is interesting enough that every time I go to play it again I am ganna catch something that I did not do before. One final note about this game that really made me realize about what games do today is that when you start out the game they don't tell you how to play at all. I really respect that in the game because they have a manual for a reason. The manual sets the story up very nicely and tells you a lot of helpful things you can do. It explains all the stats and a lot of the skills. A very handy one is the item creation. You can make food (heal stats), weapons, armor, and even character arts. The people in the game (if they have the proper skills) can paint pictures people in the game, places you can go to, and even items. This is a wonderful way to show what the developers really wanted to world to look like even though the technology at the time what not to great.

Jan 14th, 2008 at 23:04:07     -    Star Ocean: The Second Story (PS)

    Game Entry #1:

    SUMMARY:

Star ocean 2 is an old ps1 RPG. You get the option of starting off with one of two main characters and through playing the game you will get an understanding of their side of the story. In the beginning of the game as Rena(one of the two main character) an orb dropped to her home planet Expel. The orb turns the monsters rampant and makes natural disasters. You meat up with Claude (the other main character) to try and find out more and fix what the orb is doing.

    GAMEPLAY:

One a personal note I have played this game before but it was many years ago. Besides the intense sense of joy I got out of playing the game from nistaga I was very interested in the story. For better or worse the first hour and thirty seven minutes of the game I only had one battle. I enjoyed listening to the story and finding out as much as I could. Once I got more control over what I did and I could battle more often the game turned into a great RPG setting. Unlike most RPG's when you go into a town you can do a special event and have your whole team split up. Doing this makes it possible to have the relationships of the characters grow and expand. Through these special events and certain sceenes in the game you can change the outcome over the ending of the game. After I looked on the wiki cite to find out the release date I found out that there are a total of 87 endings!

Another great thing about this game is that it has 12 different people who can be on your team. You can't have them all on your team at once because if you have some join others will not. I really like this game because it does have a lot of classic stuff from most RPG's but it takes a step beyond the normal. You can steal from people, but not only during battle. You must hone your skill to be able to steal from the NPC's in the towns. Beware, if your skills are not high enough the people will catch you and some consequences might ensue. Also if you fail to steal from someone then you can never try it again.

    P.S.
Thank you so much for getting this game in the library. I have been searching for this game for a while but you can no longer find it online because the videogame society considers it one of the best classics, like lunar. If there is any way that you could tell me how you got it so that I might be able to do the same I would be very great full.
